RetroBlasting is the premier video channel specializing in humorous analysis and deconstruction of 1980s vintage toys and classic cartoons. Our goal is to be an objective voice which initiates new dialogue and spreads information, not just gush about how great we think these properties were.
With our shared backgrounds in film and archaeology, we look back on our favorite Generation X cartoons critically and discuss the good and bad, without pulling any punches. Able to laugh at things you love? This is the place for you!
We are vintage toy collectors, and maintain a large archive of vintage and sometimes rare toys. We perform restoration of these toys in order to preserve both history and treasured childhood keepsakes, not to sell them for profit.
I've been a Star Wars and G.I. Joe collector since 1982. I gave up on Hasbro ages ago. Somehow, I'm still subscribed to the HasLabs emails. Every time I get an email promoting something that looks interesting, I click the link only to be told that it's sold out. It's become something of a game. I get a Hasbro email, and then I check to see how many of the products advertised are even available for purchase. The answer is almost always "zero". What are they even doing at this point? I couldn't give them my money if I wanted to. Now, I'm just sitting here collecting MotU Origins, and having a pretty good time. Mattel certainly has their problems with retailer exclusives and online releases that sell out immediately, but they're getting better, and they seem to be trying to make the things that people want, for the most part.
Thanks for the info man...👍 This isn't about video , I see ya like star wars I would suggest you check out the New Jedi Order storyline in print. I read the Entire series (its more than 10 books) when it first came out & It truely is where the story went after Return of the Jedi in my opinion.✌️
That sucks man, sorry about your cat.from 4 years ago. You nailed this. I never checked into lego. I got the beta 1 command, liked it, but was way more interested in Star Wars. Action figures, ships BUT I liked it and I did keep up on it. I got that one set, it surprised me, it had a lot of elements I had never see in Lego, the dishes, rocket cones, coloured transparent pieces, mini figures, those support posts that hold up the building, which are still in sets today. I've seen them and every time I do, I think about that set. Up until then, I'm playing with my teachers box of bricks that were probably her kids from the early 70's. Weird, full sized Lego action figures. They looked Japanese to me. I'd be using wheels and plates in the box to build cars, amazed at my 5 year old self. But I guess t that space set, it was "modern" I didn't care for more but if I was in K Mart or whatever, I'd be looking at what Lego was doing, other space sets, I thought some of the really smaller sets looked pretty cool, with still more cooler unseen elements not in the Beta 1 set. One man vehicles with an arm and a claw. I thought some of them were cool. Then over the years I remember watching LEGO evolve, new themes, new mini figures, castles, pirates. I didn't even want it, I thought it was interesting to watch Lego evolve.
ok how come you say there is 10 seasons but I look on the Wikipedia and it shows there is only 9 seasons and the 1 you said was 10 is actually 9 and the season you said was 9 is actually 8.
He did say that season 7 was all reruns, so that is likely the source of the _extra season_ that you're worried about. Likely your wikipedia article doesn't list the same episodes twice.
To clarify, I don’t think that the anime as a source really gives the answer as to the unification. I don’t think it is possible to definitively tell if the trend was towards entropy or order before the space fortress fell. We just know that the world was in some sort of state of war at that time. Other series like Macross Zero makes it clear that it wasn’t a light switch and it looks like the Sentinels sort of expanded on that to a degree with TR Edwards. On the Zentraedi front, I feel like this is another case where there are some different sources so it depends on what you think of as canon. For example, in the Sentinels novels, I seem to recall that Exedore and Bretai were actually miners of sorts and then later became conscripted and maybe brainwashed or lied to about the history of the Zentraedi. That opens a ton of questions as to how quickly all those shops and troops were made as well as how long they dominated their corner of the galaxy. I would love to hear other opinions on this because it seems like different potential cannon sources have some pretty different ideas.
I don't know where they are, but those out there who are authentically creative and can be inspired without falling into a pit of mimicry and blind reproduction give me hope. Somewhere there is someone who can take a Lucas or Spielberg approach to making things, and they have a much greater chance of becoming the source of interesting and fun media. Now, if only people didn't have to constantly play follow the leader with corporate Hollywood and its media defenders, then maybe they would be able to find independent works which would mean something to them. Unfortunately, it's incredibly difficult to get people to break from old models and to appreciate quality. They're mostly used to eating Hollywood's dirt, and it doesn't occur to them that more appetizing things exist beyond the trough the movie industry provides them.
@59.06 I subscribed to this guy because I was looking up Joe content and he came up. After I saw him shitting on Hasbro every episode and just really feeling annoyed by his content after a few episodes, I quickly unsubscribed. A toy kind of mood is my kind of content.
I agree with what you said about the toxic FB groups. There’re 2 Gijoe groups on fb with the amount of members you mentioned that have a lot of his friends on there! I remember I left an opinion a long time ago on his group on insta & he immediately gave me an attitude & blocked me! After that a few people started attacking my group on fb & a few of them were regulars on his show! Love the kiss the ring statement at the end by the way..
New adopters often get burned. Then at peak they fix some bugs. The end it isn't good. It goes super cheap then. Stainless steel silverware is the onlything built to last. LOL I'm surprised they still make them.
Last time I commented on these videos I got piled on by people misunderstanding my joke and telling me me I’m a dumbass, so I say this with trepidation… I don’t know why I watch this channel. I like it maybe because I suspect Michael is my exact same age and I can relate to his stories. I DONT collect toys. I collect different stupid $#%¥ (Ask me about my home arcade). BUT, I did buy these. I just really liked the look, so I hung several of them in my office. To me they’re just cool art.
definitely a hard time for action figures. I see paw patrol, turtles, pokemon, mario/sonic, lego, frozen, videogames, hot wheels, dinosaurs, barbies, beast wars. motu and star wars sit like bricks
Great stream, sorry I missed it live. been off RU-vid for a few weeks so missed all this starting. Is there something we, the humble viewer/subscriber can do to help the situation?
I have to ask, is the USS flag still displayed in the studio? I remember my huge disappointment upon confirming that this did not, in fact, fit in my bathtub that without the additional support you installed, felt a bit flimsy in design. I never had key vehicles like the dragonfly or the striker so I often ended up with more Cobra vehicles and, introducing Transformers and LEGO to the battle. The more stable, solid base truly does make all the difference, and I love how it’s enough to store some of G.I. Joe’s biggest vehicles.… Including the hovercraft. Impressive!
14:45 I don’t know what that piece is for either but I assume it’s to kind of generically maintained the placement of the two rear jutting pieces and prevented the rear pieces from splaying away from each other.
KK. And staff don’t give a sh- they only care about their politics they could have looked like hero’s making a good tribute movie to Indiana jones movie
My introduction to the trilogy was the same as yours. Except I saw Star Wars on a tape my Dad recorded during a Thanksgiving broadcast, and then I saw Return of the Jedi because my uncle gave us a copy. Empire was the last one to be added to our home movie library. Also, I recently acquired the Bespin Luke Skywalker from the Power of the Force set. The removable hand is a neat touch but concerning, as I could see that getting lost easily.
The algorithm showed this to me so I figured I’d watch it again ! The maker community warms my heart. People passionate about our favorite childhood toys helping one another with restorations.
Always loved that film and the car of course with a great chase and gadget galore, really sensible choices for the minifigures though I’d give Dalton Black hair as it’s very dark brown or back, maybe a swept look but if course the result you’re happy with is the ideal one, thank you for making it in the correct dark grey, it’s a shame Lego discontinues their older grey as I think that could work possibly but yours looks fantastic!
Dude, I loved this video. Just watched the series for the first time and was feeling a lot of the same thanks. Shinji is awful. Asuka was the real hero
