They're basically 6 inch level of accessories and swappable parts in 3 3/4 inch scale, I hope this blows up so we can have a new generation of 3 3/4 scale vehicles and diorama playsets!
A new generation of all 1/18 scale toys, even 5POA. In my humble opinion it just works for all styles to have a Renaissance. So "Up with the Renaissance of quality toys kids and adults will buy!"
@@Plokman040 1/18th scale is probably my favorite scale for figures, largely because of how space friendly they are for display, compared to larger scales.
I love that the 3.75 inch line is coming back with these smaller companies. Between Strike Force Alpha and the Skeletron figures I’m going to have to come up with a diorama with my Joes.
Man those things look great. I like seeing new lines like the modern Action Force instead of endlessly redoing old franchises. We get to learn new characters like we did when we were young. Those early customs at the start of the video look great.
That's rad you highlighted these Michael. Neat line for sure. Matt nailed it. That MOCFP blister took this a killer level. Artwork came out pretty sweet too. Nice episode man! It's rad when you highlight these non-mainstream lines - in my channel's sense, it's like you're highlighting Independent Record Labels & or bands. I love the the idea of exposing people to art off their radar - these figures are exactly that. Art. Keep these episodes coming man! -Dustin
Great review as always. I think my favourite part was this: 2:53 "This lizard guy figure has a brain outside his head" 3:03 "I love how the creator thinks outside the box" Brilliant!
Matt's a great figure designer, customizer, and paint master (not to mention a great person all around). This SFA line is definitely an upgrade to the old o-ring construction design. 1:18 is definitely not dead and fans are surely doing the best work!! Nobody needs Hasbro and their rereleases anymore.
I love me some Matthew. I met him years ago at a gijoe swap meeting at Heroes and Dragons in Columbia SC. We use to trade Lanard The Corps figures from the 80s and 90s. I must say the most anticipated toy lines I am looking forward to in 2024 are Beasts of the Mesozoic by Creative Beasts Studios and Strike Force Alpha...
I’m really getting into Clint Eastwood style Cowboy films right now and I love that custom figure of him. I’d love to know if there’s a way to obtain one
It's a cool looking toy line for sure, with some obvious improvements in the O-ring design. I'm looking forward to see where this goes in the future. Thanks for the review!👍
Over the last three years or so I’ve been picking up old Lanard Corp and some third party hunter figures (wearing orange so I use them as Jurassic Park workers) that are all O-Ring figures. I’ve been thinking why no one has done it to actually trying my hand at it but wouldn’t know where to start with molding. So I’m happy to see someone doing it.
Gotta admit, I'm a 3.75 inch o-ring guy so this o-ring renaissance we're currently experiencing is exciting for me. Guys like Matt LeCroy are just the individual creators we need to lead the way and these figures he designed are too cool. I'm not into the whole 6-inch fad of today, though I'm lovin the Valaverse figs, but I think many of them are pretty cool lookin.
Great video again! Perfect breakdown of the figures and I wish I had more cash to start another toy line!!! Retroblasting is one of the best channels for sure!
What you might want is a base that on the underside that you can use as a tool to hold the elbow angle in place while swapping the arm, alternatively 3D print one.
I think the O-ring fell out of favor because of the assembly cost. I don’t know if the factories had a ‘jig’ to hold the parts, it makes sense if they did, but with or without a jig it takes a little bit more time to line everything up and spin home that screw, compared to a front and back body that’s sonic welded or other stuff. So it seems to me.
those look very nice. you should also check out the Delta-17 line its another O-ring based line that's coming soon while it doesn't have the versatility of the Strike Force Alpha line with optional heads and wrists the sculpting and paint apps side is pretty impressive
Hi RetroBlasting. Not sure if this was intentional, but it’s great to end 2023 with something a bit more positive (I’m assuming this will be your last video of the year). The current state of affairs with Hasbro and others is really depressing, but this new line gives hope that there are some quality products out there flying slightly under the radar.
Thanks for an honest review, always appreciate your view on the collectors market. These are fantastic figures that look awesome, all with a new twist (removable arms and feet) - however I looked at the prices and it is way out of my budget - miss the old days of $5 figures on a peg
Closest the big H ever came was the B.A.T.S., but that was 1. Just one figure design; 2. That only had a single swappable limb; and 3. And also had the lenticular decal making the design very gimmick heavy.
I never took to those larger, modern figures. Maybe I’m just stuck in the past but I think the 3.75” are far superior. Maybe not stylistically, but for play value. These Strike Force Alpha figures look decent (except for the purple onesie that green guy is wearing) and I like the attempt at a mythos. I’m eager to see what comes next.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that issue with the elbows. Also a little heat of some sort is absolutely necessary for the pop'n'swap parts. Great figures otherwise, four and a half stars👍
And the best part is that this isn’t the only O-ring line coming down the pipeline. Callsign longbow and operation recall and highly anticipated and also some other lesser advertised lines like delta 17
Hyperextension (you’ll know it when you do it,…repeatedly) Thank you for making this. No idea these were the evolution of a customizer. And now to look up his customs. The sliding card back and peg hands/feet scream good design. I think I have some of the same figures this guy did. Are the shoulder pins metal rivets or plastic pegs? That may have something to do with it.
I’ve looked at these and the delta 17 and I admit I think I want more than just another type of military dude. I recently started collecting 3.75in figures and early on I’m just disappointed with the annoying lack of options beyond military dudes. The four arms is a good first step but I want to see how far we can go.
Thanks for the video Michael. I did not see this from your video and also when I zoom in on the figures I do not see the following: the figures seem to not have a thigh composed of 2 halves. Do these figures employ a solid thigh and rely on visible plastic pins as the knee joint? I think there is a company fresh monkey fiction that's planning o ring g figures and they use fully visible knee pins. If so, in my personal preference, I am not a fan of that architecture. From my experience the figures with that architecture looks and feels more like one of those "the corps" figures currently sold. Aside from that, it's great to have all these options on the market! I may buy some nonetheless just to help support the effort as well as to check them out! Thanks again!
For Me, one VERY Important detail missing from these Figures is the Leg Screw format (or thigh screw). I PLAY with my figures, so it's IRRITATING to have ball joints( in the legs) that constantly shift & fall off when you play with them. These Figures would be PERFECT if they consider retooling this Issue. Especially when the legs(with boots/kneepads & the zombie/lizzard dragon feet) were a BIG Selling Point for me. I've noticed the other minor details the Host mentioned. I can deal with those issues, but the legs have to be fixed. In the meantime, I will buy some of these, but change out the legs & put gijoe legs in. It looks like Delta 17, Super 7 Gijoe & Operation Recall WILL have the leg screw format. I'm Super Excited and going ALL IN for these lines! I wish other lines(Fortnite, Lanard Corps, Chap Mei) would change to O ring- leg screw format. Just my opinion.👍🏾
@@timothyward8695 They're NOT that fragile, dude. But if you prefer ball joints over leg screws, these are for You, and I'm not knocking you or anybody else. The leg screws are just My bag.👍🏾
Interesting line. I'm not into GI Joe line but this is cool. Folks that are into GI Joe will probably enjoy this and can stand next to Joe. Hasbro should be as good as this. I've looked at another toy line at Dollar Store which has comic book for story that looks cool.
Did the rifle on the Sgt. Slugger figure seem a too thin to you? On the figures I got that came with that style rifle, they all seemed too thin to me. Could just be a me thing as I haven't heard anyone else mention it when reviewing these figures. Thank you.
Along with Strike Force Alpha, Super 7 is going to be releasing o-ring GI Joe figures in 2024, so... could more indy toymakers consider going the 3.75-inch o-ring route? Since Hasbro continues to be lukewarm at best with their ARAH-inspired releases, is it possible that a company like Valaverse would release o-ring figures of Action Force into the market?
This is outstanding news! 😱 I was wishing & hoping that Hasbro was going to actually give a crap for ARAH’s 40 anniversary in 2022 by putting out a PROPER retro line of O-ring figures… but i was just setting myself up for disappointment 😑 Aside from the few Pulse 2-pack reissues and the figures included with the obscenely expensive HasLab Sky Striker… nothing ☹️ Like you always say Michael, the fans are doing the best work, and my Joe, Corps, and Remco figures will gladly welcome these new recruits 🫡
6 inch are too big to be relevent besides putting them in a glass coffin. 3.3/4 scale was great, but has been surpassed by 4 inch. These look great doh.
Swappable hands, head and feet for a 3.75. SON OF A... From a Fan with a budget of a Credit Card. Yet a multi billion dollar company, as in Hasbro, can't come up with an idea like this. Well, maybe they did however, they never implemented it.
Size is why i stopped collecting most mainstream and only collect Halo and call of duty mega construx....tiny articulate and awesome accessories....oh and masters of the universe as well....i once had a idea to approach Hasbro to see if they would /could team up with mega construx to make the whole first wave of joes and vehicles in tiny form, with buildable battle damage, weapons effects.....i even made some of the original joes from my call of Duty figs.....but then found out Mattel owns Mega so......yeah.
Are you going to be getting any of the other stuff from other companies like Callsign Longbow, Operation Recall or Delta 17? There was a company called Easy Kill 9 but they didn't have any cool designs and they didn't differentiate themselves at all really. Their stuff was kind of boring.
Hopefully, they can link with one of the Comicsgate crowd, or other independent comic creator, and make some decent comics. My love of GI Joe was driven by the comic. I kinda hated the show. I felt there were no stakes and everybody's favorite Joe was sidlined. In part because he was mute.
Im sorry, but even as a child of the 80s, there's no way I would spend $25 a pop for these figures. Seems like an absurd business plan. You know Classifieds are 6 inches, highly detailed, and sell for $25. If you could not produce and sell these figures for $15, you should have just ripped up the business plan. They also should have taken into account how Super7 has failed miserably with their absurdly priced 1/18 scale Joes. Yes, these figures are nice and seem to bring more bang for the buck when compared to the Delta-17 figures that are set to be released soon. But in no way are they worth the same price as a Classified. When will people and /or companies realize that they will sell more products when they are reasonably priced. Trying to make a bag off of each and every figure is beyond nonsensical. I believe that initially, Joes made the majority of their profit on vehicle, buildings, and accessories. Yes, I realize that the company is small, so their cost to produce will be higher. But I'm sure if they had kept the price at $15, a lot of us die-hards would purchase the complete line instead of 0 -3 figures.
The Strike Force Alpha toys surpassed my expectations. I need to pick up the rest of the range soon. Matt LeCroy does great work and I’m glad he got a line out there that is more than just his custom stuff.
Great Video as always Michael. I am really looking forward to getting these in hand. I love that they are putting out new characters and added features to my favorite type of action figure. My toy budget for 2024 will be focused on supporting this and other independent toy lines because like you have said the fans are doing the best work and I can tell these makers love the toys they are producing.
Michael French you're looking sharp as always dude! Also this was a very fun and informative video! This is a cool looking new independently made action figure line very reminiscient of the late 1980s/early 1990s G.I. Joe action figure line, but definately is it's own story! This would make a for a cool cartoon series if one could get made for it to tie in!
Going 3.75 1/18 was the smartest move Mattel could have made for Jurassic, dinos and vehicles and humans all in scale and we can get something like a 1/18 Brachiosaurus. That wasn’t happening in 1/12 FWIW, Mattel’s Hammond Collection has been offering swappable heads and hands and limbs for their 1/18 humans along with their great articulation.
