Could but its harder to cut. Plastic melts under the heat of a grinder and gums up. Mighy drill holes and use a saw. Probably need larger wheel since plastic is fat in the middle
Huge help! I thought I'd have to hack at it with plastic razor blades. Many people think that silicone is a wonder sealant that will last forever. It does last forever, it just doesn't stick to whatever you want to make waterproof forever. Talk to house painters and glaziers before using silicone, please.
You didn't understand the part about removing the solvent immediately. That was done a couple years ago. If I could post a picture here you would see there is 0 damage. But manage yours the way that you think is best.
Hey there seems to be many ways to do this . I’m all for finding ways to make it easy. I bought mineral spirits. Petroleum based- I didn’t think about that that doesn’t sound like the right stuff to use on my sidewalls’ Filon and fiberglass though. ***IS IT ??**** Seeing this I then wondered about the turpentine ( it’s not petroleum and it’s stronger) . Silicone is a bear to get off - I’ve watched so many RU-vid’s and everybody seems to be the Expert.
You got to get it off as soon as the job is done and do small sections at the time. People seem to miss this. Clean the area immediately with something like scrubbing bubbles
Device if you wanna look, it up is called RV Macerator Pump 12V 12GMP, RV Waste Pump with Garden Hose Discharge Port, Quick Release Sewage Pump with fresh water rinse and manual crushing function, for Boat Marine RV Camper
And for those folks that want to do it, the easier read the right way the first time Amazon sells a pump for your septic tank drain out part where you hook it to where you would normally hook your hose and you would add your garden hose to that and run the water and it would clean it out spotless
Yeah... but everyone is freaked saying that would take the paint off but I think they skipped the part about removing the cleaner immediately after removing the old calking. This is two years later with no signs of paint damage.
Just a heads up for anyone else watching this: you shouldn't use a garden hose for potable water. They often contain lead that can leach into the water. I notice most of your run is the white potable water safe hose, but that last little bit on the fitting is not.
Ive experienced how new silicone will not adhere and seal to old and have avoided it like the plague since then. Which type of caulk can you remove with mineral spirits and elbow grease? Mainly the top stained layer when using white? And also allow you to apply it over itself and be water tight? Thanks
I watched on RU-vid a guy got it all off real easy without paint loss. Looked for his video for myself but can’t find it but after watching you I would just add some water to it might a bit harder but you don’t lose paint. Thanks for sharing Ray K UK YNWA.
People elevators have brakes that automatically apply if the cable breaks, keeps them from dropping however many stories. Do these have anything like that? Either way, stay away from the base of the ladder when using one.
Nice, I’d buy it if I only could, I don’t like people up my butt whilst camping, the campground I go to mainly caters to tenters, no more tents for me, bought a a Dodge Grand Caravan, fold down the seats easily, add and air mattress, and I’m all set! Sure wish I could buy that RV, not too big, not too small, I’m an ex trucker, so, I can drive for many hours! Happy trails, why are you selling it, I know it’s been a year.
Why on earth would you use a pressure washer on areas that you just took all the sealer off of? The water is going to go right in where you just took the sealer off.
that doesn't look like chaulking. that looks like 3M 94 adhesive promoter. its used in spots like that to help a vehicle wrap stick better. When the wrap is removed the residue will stay in the areas that had the adhesive promoter on it. Looks like it was applied with small brush which is common. my guess is that RV had a wrap on it at one time
No...it was silicone base calking that appears drunks or kids had used and colored way outside the lines. Some original calk was removed by the brush. It was a soft brush.
Toluene is a carcinogen! That's some serious nasty crap. You should be using a respirator with that stuff. It will absolutely take silicone off though. I'd say orderless mineral spirits would be much better on your lungs, nervous system and fiberglass. www.osha.gov/toluene
I’m trying to get god awful clear silicone caulk off my aluminum RV siding. Any tips? I don’t care about the old paint job. Just want it off and will repaint another time. Help!
@@sarahroe5253 I've used a good box knife in the corners. Two cuts usually does it pretty good and you can booger roll anything left. When you apply the new silicone, use as small a bead as possible to fill whatever gap you're trying to bridge. I actually use a plastic shaping tool between the hard surfaces then back off, let it dry till the next day. Anything outside the tool edge peels right off.
I'm not saying this video is wrong, But I will say I think there are a lot better ones out there. I wonder if this guy knows Martin personally or if he just watched his videos. I can't see Martin doing it this way...
@@ronachadwick7908 it's been 2 yrs since I made this comment and watching this video is even harder now than it was then. this is bad advice on how to take care of your rv. Go watch martin's channel RV Street. Or even RV 101. Not because this is wrong but if you are not carful enough or now your rv you can cause more damage than you are trying to fix.
Thanks. Unfortunately hurricane Zeta put a giant oak tree on top of the porch and pancaked the entire shed. I've gotten the motorhome out and over half cleaned up. I'm going to rebuild but I have a big barn that also got hit that I have to replace first to get the contents out of the rain.
Acry Solvent makes removing the old silicone sealants a breeze. Try it, you will be soooo happy. Also wipe it down with acetone and the denatured alcohol to remove to old oils in the surface so the new sealant stick well.
After 13 years of building and selling over 400 of these platforms I have decided to close shop. The cost of materials has doubled and the cost of shipping has almost tripled. The last 5 that I shipped took 3 weeks to arrive. I want to sincerely thank all my customers and wish everyone success and safety. You guys putting up shingles, plywood, ac units, solar panels and working at dangerous heights work extremely hard and make life more comfortable for everyone. Thank you for your hard earned dollars! Just for your entertainment I'll mention a few things people have done with these hoists. Several rv service people have used them for putting ac units in travel trailers and motorhomes. I've gotten feedback saying that because they had these that they no longer needed to send two men to do a job. One man could put the ac on the roof. One man had 50 feet of steps going up to his house. He linked 3 ladders and attached them to the ground. He had to use smaller Guage cable to get it all on the spool but he no longer has to carry his groceries up so many steps. One handicapped man used one as a deer stand with a 12v convert on his truck battery. A couple people installed them in their house to move their luggage and groceries upstairs from their carport. A customer in Little Rock bought 2 and loaned one to a disabled veteran so his friends could help him from his house to the street. Many people bought a second one to expand and speed up their jobs.
Its easier to just take the filter off and clean it. Just get some dollar store oven cleaner then pressure was it . Then dry it out completely and reinstall it.
Send me an email Tblount7@yahoo.com I have 5 left ready to ship. $340 for the platform including shipping. You'll have to get a werner extention ladder and the motor.
