Dear Sir, Thank you for your help! Bagged out suspension is what almost all of us Model S first genners experience at some point. I even bought tubing, T-fittings and 4 shredder valves to install them between the valve block and the air springs in hope to be able to pump the corners one by one in a case of emergency. Which is not a reliable solution (adding more leak spots). Please, give us a bit more information on the electrical and air connections you made. Thank you in advance!
This video seems to offer exactly what I need, to get my car to the service center near me. But I would be REALLY grateful for any additional detail on how to connect the external compressor & power for the valve. From what I can see, it looks like you've cut the purple pipe and added a t-junction. I'd have to work out how to do that. And then how to connect wires to the valve for the front...
A basic bench vise is better. Hammering shocks the assembly and could lead to gaps in the retaining compound. If you don't have a big socket to match that diameter, the caps were designed with a lip around the edge that allows you to press them in with a block of wood. Only that outside edge makes contact with the aluminum. The 2nd step is just to allow the rotor to clear the cap. The C-Clip helps hold the long tube in place while the glue dried during the original assembly. With the length of the tube and potential inertia removed and the assembly fully cured, it isn't necessary to hold anything in place.
Good video, we don’t have a “P” but I know people that do and they are hitting the market cheap when they have issues so I’m sure doing these is in my future.
It isn't just the P cars. ALL rear wheel drive cars and all P-Performance dual motor cars have this LDU. Only the non performance dual motor cars have a different motor without the issue. Model 3/Y and the newest S/X are also safe.
Great video, a couple of comments: 1. It's coolant delete title is misleading as it is not coolant delete. 2. That is not the definition of "a blind hole" Otherwise very good.
Would a brake and rotor job be a home mechanic with medium to low skills but done previous work before? Getting my control arms and shock assembly done on my S next week. 262k miles and they finally needed replaced.
To order camber arms armstrong-mobile-forklift-repair.square.site/?fbclid=IwY2xjawDECY9leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHWI9cqitWjUh7Sfk9jS0clqseDnShMf8So84-hFT4bLPGReIE5cKjR3S2w_aem_AYSFsL3Ix038MxiHjfPncsekhH-z-NhbTArDYGl9iGwQEnI1P4hgj9L7tR16cYpMlD2kMcrmf6lEl9EAbC1U5Gj8
I assume you are adding the compressed air to the purple line with a T fitting? How did you add power to the valve itself? Is there wiring on the actual valve block? So a powered area that I need to turn on to force the air into the suspension? Do you sell that jumper for the valve? Looks like a great solution!
My dream gig (I swear I would’ve never thought this when younger) would be to have a shop servicing and maintaining teslas and other EVs. I’ve never worked on a vehicle more than any other car I’ve owned. Not in a complaining way; contrary to that I’ve taken a lot of satisfaction using basic automotive work and some technical self study. Still learning. Still wanting to repair more.
If you find the time, more Tesla related videos would be fantastic. New tech is my passion as well and would absolutely love to get my hands on a salvage vehicle to work on or help someone else with. I've helped a few people with driveway repairs and what not, things like AC compressor swaps. I've watched EV teardowns and worked on small scale solar / battery setups for years and am finnaly picking up a Model 3 next month. I'm almost excited for when it gets out of warranty so I can do my own repairs.
Very cool man. Glad to see what all you have to share going forward. Got an issue with my S, module 1 , a string is showing 280mV off balance. Bms_u018. Good times.
Been following you on Facebook. Awesome work can you add some sort of commentary or more information about this rear large (P / performance) Drive unit: delete thing.
Great job letting us into your shop and world. I have a 60x140 shop, full of stuff, but only a heated and cooled area that is 30x30, gets full fast! One dead P85 in the heated part right now, coolant in the LDU.
