Funny he says that being born again means believing Jesus is God. No one in the New Testament times was born again that way. John did not say the one who believes Jesus is “God in the flesh” is the one who is born of God. He said that those who confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh are of God. Then people interpret that to mean believing in their concept of “incarnation”.
I was at this performance as a young teenager. I didn't know who he was at the time but I remember that everyone was talking about Keith Green coming to perform in the days prior. (This was a music festival that went on for a few days.) The anticipation to see Keith Green was next level. I had never seen anything like it before. People were so moved and inspired by his music and lyrics. By his life. Over the next several years his popularity grew almost into a frenzy. I remember him talking about it, trying to get people to focus on Jesus and not on him. He gave away his recording for free. People LOVED him. His popularity surged. The summer of 1982, a group of friends and I got tickets (they may have been free) to see him perform in Columbus, OH. It was 100 miles from where we lived but we just wanted to see him perform and worship with him. God took him home before that concert could take place. After the plane crash, the concert was turned into a memorial. We went. It was really, really heavy. We all were crushed by the loss. I think we all knew - he was being elevated to idol status and, well, the frenzy stopped. And was replaced by grief. He still inspires me deeply. To God be the glory. Only God.
This was prophetic for Randy. If he hadn't had all that stuff happen to him, he wouldn't be around today. Traywick (Travis) was hooked on whiskey since (at least) 1982 (when I saw him). He later got sober, baptized and saved. When he fell back into drinking and got hurt, God actually saved his life. Randy may be in a wheelchair, but he finally got that peace in the valley - and hasn't needed a drink in order to feel confident & happy. He's got the family he always wanted, with a wife who really loves him and makes him smile. ❤
