1. easy. It's driving. That's all it is- let's not BIG this up. Unskilled work. Yes, a different shape etc, but uses the same roads as any other vehicle. Regulations irrelevant. No quals needed. 2. It's 99.999999999% driving and the rest eating crap. Sometimes you might open a curtain...ooooohhh... H&S is not unique to driving a truck. Millions follow rules and regs every day. 3. Money. For unskilled work it's ok but you have to be able to do monotonous work for a ridiculous number of hours and sleep on a road. Your life is over. What price your life? money commensurate with skill. 4. It is just a job. You don't even have human contact. Worse than a job- it's your life. Depression no doubt a huge issue. 5. Not really progression as such, but you might be able to change to a related job. You can only drive a truck- there's no possible progression in operating a machine. Cars on the back...i'ts a truck. Container...it's still a truck. The comment below by JamesBC sums it up more accurately- find something else.

I have recently passed my class 1 but stupidly nearly 5 years ago got covicted of a DG10 do you think i will struggle to find an employer willing to give me a chance after my coviction is spent after the 5 years? Got no other points or anything else on my licence but worried that even though after 5 years my conviction is spent the DG10 will still remain on my licence for another 6 years and most jobs i see advertised say no DR DG DD IN codes etc. Would i be wrong assuming that only means unless spent or until completely wiped off licence?

No idea buddy. I guess that’s something you would need to ask an employer when you go for an interview.

If you want a life and don't want to be under paid and given abuse of drivers when they cut you up then I wouldn't be a truck driver I've done it for 11 years now and the uk roads are a lot worse now can't wait to leave this industry don't waste your money

It's a very hard job. People don't appreciate the experience and effort you have to put in, day in and day out. Without hgv drivers we would have no food in the shops, hospitals would run out of supplies no fuel at the petrol station. Good video explaining the issues 👍

I'm Sixty years old and i've been driving HGV's for most of those years. It's a lifestyle not a job. It's hardd on familys, home life and hard on you for not being there for kids, wife and family but , if you love it, there is no better life. My kids still treasure memories of being away in the truck with me and the memories we made along the way. If the life is for you then there is none better, if not then it's hell on earth.

That actually pisses me off when car drivers who have not gone through the process in getting their HGV licence, say it's easy to drive. If it was that easy we'd be to drive them on a car licence and not have to do 6-8 tests plus retakes if you fail the main practical test. I'm new to tramping 4 nights driving car transporters and there's a lot to take in, it's a way of life. I'm finally settling in a bit but now trying to get use to the tachograph.

Another great video Billy with important subject matter covered. I myself only passed my Class 1 eight months ago and went straight into tramping straight away. It still amazes me the negativity from the majority of people I come across and it is hard to find positivity which is a shame. It may be worth clarifying for yet to pass drivers when you say you have just had a twenty minute break, that it forms part of the 15 minute and explain why, just a thought, as I found it all mind boggerling when I started out on my journey. Still not managed to cross paths with you, but when I do, a hand shake and a healthy snack on me. Keep up the great work Billy

Hi billy Just started doing my class 1 , Iv had my psv license for 13years so I’m completely fine with the size of the vehicle plus I used to drive the bendy buses around London when they was about in 2006 , it training is costly £3650 out of my own pocket! I’m worried about getting employed im hearing lots of horror stories about 2 years experience required ect any companies you could recommend about the Essex area ?

@billyhgvuk 17 дней назад
Go for it buddy… I little advice would be. “Do not listen to everything you hear. Some will say negative things and some will say positive. Just pass, keep your head down, and do your job. There are very badly run companies but you’ll need to get your experience some how. There are also great companies out there to 👍

In the HGV industry, do HGV drivers always drive the same lorry? Or do you have the same lorry for a while then change to a different one?

It depends. If you do “Day work” different truck probably. If you sleep in your truck, you normally get allocated your own 👍

Hi really good information only thing is if u buy the tomtom truck satnav should it not be telling if there are low Bridges because u pout the height information in to the tomtom before u set off so it no the best way to take u to avoid low bridges and other restrictions for the Hgv is u said it will take u down some roads that are not really Hgv friendly but I thought it would take care off low bridges for the height u set in the satnav Thanks

Hey Billy. Best of luck with the ADR course its super easy to pass. I did the course last month as a new pass with no HGV experience just so that i had another ticket to show on my CV now that im driving Class 1 its a relief that ive got the ticket (even thoguh im currently not using it) plus it lasts you for 5 years so who knows what opportunities may present themselves in the future. If your current company is not doing ADR work at the moment it'll be unlikely it will in the future ... too much hassle to retrofit the safety equipment to the cabs. Its a shame you've paid for the course yourself, the goverment are offering the course for free as a bootcamp but i dont think you'll qualify for the funding. Shameless plug: You can see my ADR journey here ... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5MPN9Hp9I-E.html

I am currently considering obtaining my HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) licence and would appreciate your advice on this matter. I have spoken to several drivers who are already in the industry and have received mixed feedback regarding the value and benefits of pursuing this qualification. Some have suggested that it is not worth the effort and investment. Given your experience and insight, I would greatly appreciate your perspective on whether obtaining an HGV licence is a worthwhile endeavour. Any guidance or information you could provide would be incredibly helpful in making an informed decision. Thank you for your time and assistance.

Good vid mate, I have had a full ADR for years including radioactives and Bang and tanks to be honest with you its not worth it, I earn alot more per hour working for a large parcel firm . when you consider the extra risks you are taking. I have done tankers for an extra £1 ph but you have to work day/nights and weekends. So in my humble option its nor worth the cost of the course.
