Hi Evan, Form.Z has so many tools, who needs extensions ! I've not seen the Grow-face & Bridging tools before, its almost CAD-BLACK-MAGIC...👍 Thanks again for your invaluable RU-vid videos, its most appreciated.
You are wasting your time man. You have to make someting beautiful and during the process show the power of formz. Also you have to show the windows version of the software, which is defective I believe.
I'm really glad AutoDesSys has invested in producing this new set of tutorials. I've been a fan of the videos since Matthew Holewinski made them a decade or more ago. Evan seems equally knowledgeable, so I'm stoked to see them. Having good learning materials makes a real difference in whether customers will buy your product. Kudos!
2 or more sources in each branch (the top of the trunk counts as 1 of the 2), with minimum of 2 branches. Adjust the number in the tool options to explicitly tell fZ how many branches before you begin picking sources for the trunk.
Hi Evan! Glad to see you're back with another video! Absolutely loved this one but I have two questions. 1.) Will "Part Two" deal with "Skin" and Cross Skin"? 2.) If I wanted to make an automobile fender with styled creases (similar to your Guide Lofting) would Lofting or Sub Division be the better tool(s)? Thanks, Gianni
Hey Gianni, I’m not the best person to answer that question because I’m an architect by training. You should probably ask your question in the forum for access to those experts. SdS are great for visually tweaking geometry but as far as I know NURBS are going to get you exactly the output you want (with probably a lot more setup time to get the guides how you want them). That’s my intuition at least.
@@gianni1646 Hi Gianni, I’ve tried to leave a comment with a link to the forum twice now and RU-vid isn’t allowing a URL it seems. If you do a Google search for “formz discussion forum” it’s the top result.
Hi Evan, I see why discerning architectural CADDER's rate Form.Z above similar 3D software programmes, the functionality with so many intricate tools for creation & editing which you're demonstrating with these tutorials just shows the depth of the programme. Looking forward to the next one already ! 🙂👍
At about 6:00, using the closed path, does it have to be a "surface"? I tried sweeping a closed "line" and it only opened a warning dialog. But I may have made some other error. Also hope you will show the Skin and Cross Skin tools. I am having a hard time using them. Thanks!
Thanks for this tutorial. In another set of tools I'm trying to use, the "Skin" and "Cross Skin", I can't seem to get points to line up to invoke the result. Can I add points to my sources and paths to make the tools work?
I'm using Form Z 10.0.1 (Build B137) and the behavior described at around 3:00 in the video doesn't work...To select multiple elements, the "Area Pick" tool must be used to draw a box *completely* enclosing the forms you want to pick..."left-to-right" or "right-to-left" doesn't make a difference. Also, the person in the video seems to be using the basic "Pick" tool to select multiple elements by drawing a box around them---and that's not working for me, whether or not "Allow Drag" is selected. I HAVE to use "Area Pick" if I want to select multiple elements by drawing a box.
1. Allowing the "snap to" grid to use different settings than the "visible" grid in the workspace is INCREDIBLY confusing...I can't imagine any real-world situation where I'd actually want to do that, particularly in the way it's done in this video. 2. Two forms don't *need* to have coplanar surfaces for a Boolean union to work...if they overlap it'll be fine. (The video sort of implies that the surfaces need to be coplanar, which is a bit misleading. I understand the point was to illustrate the use of object snapping, but there might be a clearer way to do that.) 3. I don't want to be Debbie Downer, but, again, this stuff is *extremely* basic 3D and most users can probably figure it out from just reading the tooltips. It would be great to see some videos that go into greater depth about building complex objects.
1. It depends on the scale of the project. I often snap at a 1” increment but would never want a 1” grid for a building. Isn’t it nice that you can choose? I think so. 2. In the example it is coplanar but of course doesn’t have to be, in fact it is often better for the geometry to *not* be coplanar when doing booleans for the best results. But in this worst case scenario, it still works when coplanar and thus is why I used it in this video. 3. This is a form•Z Fundamentals series, and all things must begin somewhere.
It's good that these videos exist, but: 1) literally *everything* shown in this video can be easily done (and with more control) using the Revolve tool and 2) in this instance at least, the tool UI is sufficiently straightforward that I would venture to say that most Form Z users *really don't need* a video to understand it. Hopefully the Form Z people will continue producing videos, and hopefully they will address the more complex and abstruse parts of Form Z rather than just plucking the low-hanging fruit.
Hi Evan, So many Form.Z tools ! even more than your previous Fundamentals course, amazing. The slicing tools seem destructive, unlike the non-destructive clipping planes, so handle with care I guess !
Ghosted operands *should* be retained in the file...i.e., the original object should still be there in a ghosted form and you can unghost it if you need it. At least that's how it was in earlier versions of Form Z. I need to check and see if it still works in FZ 10.
Yes, Clipping Planes are visual, constantly transformable, non-destructive, and only planar whereas the Boundary Slice tool for example can be any shape you want (but destructive). As @giacomo9999 states, using Ghost Operands is probably a good idea when using various slicing tools.
Form Z Still looks like you are using it in back in the days soo old on Windows form Z 10 should have dark mode on Windows you are showing like million of things we can change i wonder why windows can get dark mode i thought is me but when you come on windows is white and when you go on mac is dark even on mac you get it from mac dark mode system so Form Z still need update on dark mode for all platforms Plasticity is getting more users part of it is the user interface with dark more like all of the other software like blender
It looks like you haven't done anything specific on this app for about 10 years. Dialog box notes are not readable at all ...The reference menu fonts are also very small and unreadable.
At about 4:50 in the video, your vertical plane for sectioning is not as tall as the stair stepped object. Will the section always complete the entire object? Thanks.
