What's the sound like? I'd like to buy it but I'm put off because most in that price range are very flat. If I play The Weekend on vinyl, for example, what does it sound like?
I love my Great Britian Manufactured Model 99. Perfect for everyday sewing and patchwork. My Mom had the same model only it was a knee (electric ) treadle instead of a foot pedal. My Grandmother purchased it for her in the 50's for her growing family.
I have a small collection of Feurehand lanterns myself. they are really well made and designed to last. I have 1930's vintage 323 hot blast lantern. next is my little 175 which is pre WW2. then I have 2 276 'Sturmkappe' versions, with the extra large fount that gives up to 72 hours burn time from a tank of kerosene. plus I have late model 275, which is the only model they make now. your little 175 is a post WW2 version from the look of it, and the easiest way to tell where it was made is to look at the tank and the glass.if the tank is stamped 'Made in Germany', then it will be pre WW2. but if it is stamped 'Made in W. Germany' or "West Germany' then it is post WW2 after East and West Germany split after WW2. either way, it doesnt matter, any of the earlier Feuerehand lanterns are going for stupid prices lately. but like you, I was lucky when I bought my little 175, I picked it up at a secondhand market where I live in Australia and only paid $15 for it, so a good bargain.
Not sure I follow you as Hong Kong has been part of China since 1997. They are inferior to the vintage ‘made in the USA’ Dietz lanterns. I have the vintage ones and Hong Kong ones. The biggest failure point on the Hong Kongs are the tank seams. Highly recommend anyone purchasing them apply a good tank sealer before adding fuel. And don’t be shy from using diesel fuel or least having that as an emergency reliable fuel supply.
Love this Woolworth remembrance. I sure have fond memories of shopping there for Christmas with the money I saved in my Christmas account at the bank. Great! Can you please direct me where I can buy a GOOD, SOLID 7/8" flat wick? As opposed to a FLATTENED HOLLOW TUBE of an excuse for a wick that only burns at half of the brightness of what I should be able to and CAN get with a good wick?
The WT Kirkman are better made for sure. They may be used on the same tooling but the material especially the globe is so much better. I hope they bring back the bigger version of the champion
W.T. Kirkman, not W.D. Kirkman...you used a "D" early on the video. Currently their house brand is also made in China. I really like the Air Pilot, Blizzard, and the Dietz Original #76 Galvanized is truly an outstanding smaller lantern. Citronella oil indoors is a very unpleasant experience. My preferred fuel is good old undyed Kerosene.

Just watched this 2-year-old video last night and was sold on W.T. Kirkman. Left a message with them this morning and just now got a phone call from the company. Not just anyone, but W.T. himself called me! I can echo your comments: so polite, and willing to answer my questions. He confirmed they are still working on getting the equipment to start making #2 again! Logged back into their website and now, 2 of the No. 1 "Little Champ"s are on the way! Feuerhand offers these lanterns in gobs of colors. I bought the sparkling iron color and love it. They're bright lanterns for their size. I use soy based (Firefly) oil in mine to keep it burning clean as a whistle without the smoke and soot. We keep the lantern in our cabin and that Firefly oil also won't freeze.
I wanted a kirkman lantern but they are completely out of stock and have been since supply chain issues. Btw, they are currently made made in China. According to their website they are working on building it in the US again. Fingers crossed.
Great find. I also have both of those lanterns although my 175 has no paint on it and as light rusting. I bought mine along with a few others at a car boot so they are still out there.
Its easy to date when it was made. if it says 'Germany' or 'made in Germany', it will be either pre WW2, or made during the war years. anything stamped 'West Germany' or 'Made in W Germany' will be post WW2 after the East and West split. it doesnt really matter anyway, as they will still be the same high quality as you can buy today.

How will these hold up in the long run? I don't love that they can rust. I wish they made them in pure brass or stainless steel or something. They'd have my money in a heartbeat. Would love to hear your thoughts!
I have a couple of early Feurehands, one dates to the late 30's, and the other one just before WW2. both are still in really good condition and ready to use if I need them. a little simple care will see them last a very long time.
I brought one 2 replace my Dietz blizzard that magically grew legs & left me, now if U need a globe the florasense lantern they sell at Walmart hz the same globe, probably not the same quality, but 4 under $11.00 U get a spare globe & lantern,, WM one hz a 3/8" wick tho..
