He passed on this day !!!! He was a good man, to me he always said “ Hey Spider” when i would see him and always bought me my Diet Pepsi when i would see him. God rest his soul!!!
I was heartbroken as well. Lee May, was my favorite player for the Cincinnati Reds, when he played 1st base. I loved his batting style and how he would swing that bat, in a circular motion, waiting for the pitch. Thankfully, “The Big Bopper,” was part of the “Big Red Machine,” before being traded to the Houston Atros, for Joe Morgan.
I knew Mel later in life. He was a neighbor, friend and golfing buddy in the ‘90s when he lived in Fallbrook. We were both 12 handicaps, but he almost always won when we played match. Wicked five-wood. Very competitive. I enjoyed his stories about his days at USC, the ‘48 Olympics and later when he worked abroad in the electronics defense industry. R.I.P. old friend.
Of the four main female characters in Goldfinger (Maggie Nolan, Shirley Eaton, Tania Mallet, and Honor Blackman), only Shirley Eaton is still with us. Now 87 as of this post (08-22-24). I hope she is well and lives to 100!!
