There are amazing guitars and guitar players in Heaven, I have no doubt.

Hilton Valentine was the lead guitarist for The Animals. One of the top three British Invasion bands of the early 60's. The other two being The Beatles and Rolling Stones. Years back, I was amazed to find out Hilton lived in the town next to me in Wallingford, Ct. Seen him play a few times with his Skiffle Band. He was a nice guy and an important member of a very important band. R.I.P Hilton, You had a great run, a life well lived.

Hilton made great music, but more importantly, he was an amazing man. There aren't enough people like him in this world. Rest in peace, Hilton Valentine.

Met Hilton 30 odd years ago on a training course as we were both on a training course for the insurance business. Loved listening to his stories of the 1960s and all the things that went on. RIP Hilton.

One of my first and biggest influences when I began playing back in 1966, as long as someone is playing the House Of the Rising Son, he will never die, but will always be in our hearts.

I became a fan the second the needle dropped on that first album in 1964. Hilton was the perfect accompanist to The Animals music. "Going Down Slow", "Worried Life Blues" still getting plenty of play time in my house. RIP Hilton Valentine.

This fellow created one of the greatest rock guitar riffs ever with the Animals version of "House Of The Rising Sun". Will think of him every time I pick up my guitar to play it. Rest in peace my musical friend.

I met Hilton Valentine at Heathrow Airport in August, 2000. He was kind and humble. We spoke briefly about Chas Chandler's passing in 1996 and about Hilton's iconic opening notes to House of the Rising Sun. It was an honour to meet such a warm and talented legend. He will be greatly missed.

I was in the bar of the Park Hotel Tynemouth ,Chas Chandler was having a pint of Newcastle Exibition Ale when in walked Hilton Valentine , great night .RIP.

So many cool people dying. Rest in peace.

Will always remember your smiling visage at the end of the HRS video, which stood in stark contrast to the serious faces of the other band members. RIP

I was one of first people in East Texas to order a record of the Animals when I heard "House of the Rising Sun" on Sheveport radio. I always loved Mr Valentines playing. He was the heart of the group. In recent years, I found clips on facebook of him and Eric performing and loved it! Rest in Peace! He will be missed.

The first time I heard House of the Rising Sun was at Newcastle City Hall when The Animals, née the Alan PriceCombo, closed the first half of a show where Chuck Berry topped the bill. The Animals, and Eric in particular, clearly loved performing in front of their ‘home crowd’. They recorded it during that tour. Hilton’s intro defined that recording just as much as Alan’s organ solo did. It’s a shame the Pricey claimed the writing credits - and all of the royalties from it - rather than sharing them with Hilton and the rest of the band. Chuck Berry was brilliant that night as well.

I was a student in Newcastle. The Animals are important Geordie icons.

Rest in Peace, Hilton. I was 7 in '64 when the British Invasion was taking off and we loved The Animals. Liked the bit about The House Of The Rising Sun. I wanted to play guitar back then but didn't get started until i was 15. Took a break for a couple of years then in '81 back at it. I get invited to a house party for a full band jam then. First song, The House. Pretty fun times. Thanks for the memories.

There is a house in New Orleans they call the Rising Sun. Yea, a lot of us old farts began our musical journey with that one. Hats off,Mr. V.

I hope Hilton was told enough what a legend he was. RIP HILTON!! I'm so glad I got to correspond with him on social media these last 2yrs, right up until a week ago when I was purchasing some of your merchandise. :'( :'(

His riffs inspired me to the rebelliousness of the pubescent early sixties ; We Gotta Get Out of This Place, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, It's My Life (ESPECIALLY). Someone said they were the progenitors of punk. They were called punks in their day, but it meant something different then. But of the top 3 British Invasion bands, they were the ones who captured my spirit. Hilton hooked us in better than any, until maybe the Kinks or the Who, later on. He was my first guitar hero though.
