Awesome video!! I have never seen walnut dash trim in an 80s 740 also that cluster is a bit different than what I’m used to. I owned an ‘88 744 turbo and now a ‘90 745 turbo. Great cars!
I haven't tried it, but the reason they changed it is because 5th gear is too weak to handle the torque. So if you are planning on towing or driving long distances I would't risk it. If youre doing a swap its not much more work to put an M46 in
Beautiful car! My daily is a 940 D24TIC estate, has been a rolling resto for the last couple of years but more or less finished now. Such a great car. I have a petrol one too but the diesel gets the love. Just about to hit 300k miles and still so sweet!
i never really understood why people prefer diesels over the petrol options, especially as volvo was famous for the redblocks. still appreciate the good restauration tho.
@@rioblyth3926 This engine has done more than 500000km, so I would say so. You just have to be more mindful when it comes to timing belt changes, as it is an interference engine.
Damn I'm not the only one! I can see you fuel gauge swinging up and down. My 740GL swing left and right when the fuel tank is full, but it stops swinging when I reach 100 Kilo Metres journey.
I had 940 td intercooler in a sedan but with the normal 5-speed. (I had the electronic overdrive in my older 240 diesel). With the 940 I did 574.000km mostly with a trailer. A few very minor things but nothing that ever caused it to break down on the spot. Very comfortable AND you could turn the car on a proverbial napkin. If I could buy a new one today, I would in a heartbeat
The temperature sensor at the back of the head isn't working, so it always thinks it's -30 outside and glows 30 seconds. But I always just start the car earlier, which shuts off the glowplugs.
@@volovojuntti24 I still have the 740 Interior in it and it will probably stay that way, since I bought another 760 (V6) without an Interior and missing electrical system for a great deal and need the Interior I had planned to put in the 740 in that.

The engine is now in my 740, after some minor re-sealing, refurbishing and an EGR delete. Looking to turn up the fuel and make some power once I get the rest of the car sorted out.
@@yef2811 will post another one soon i think, probably on my 765. I really didnt think many people would see this but the old volvo Community is pretty big i guess 😉🤘🏼
Update: Used the car as a test bench for a M46 transmission to confirm the overdrive was working and now removed all parts like the clutch fork, slave cylinder, shifter etc. to manual swap my 760. I may upload a video of that soon
Temp gauges on these cars are notoriously finnicky. I had my whole instrument panel out and reflowed the solder on my D24TIC car, the earthing turrets on the temp gauge and fuel gauge had dry joints and it was all in a poor state. Temp gauge would read full operating temp (dead centre) whatever the temperature. Works perfectly now! Still my daily at just shy of 300k miles. Amazing cars.
