I have 30 inch overhang for my quartz countertop we installed should I put 2 or 3 posts for support ?
@commonsenseprojects
@commonsenseprojects 11 дней назад
Depends how far it hangs over and how long your countertop is. With a 12” overhang and your length is longer then 12’ I would put 3.

Yes, everyone wants a "natural" answer for Duckweed removal. As you can see a humongous amount of work went on here. I can think of a million better uses of my time. I have been a Certified Commercial Aquatic Herbicide Applicator for 30 years. 12 oz. per acre of Clipper aquatic herbicide will cause no harm to the pond, degrades in a few days, and you will have a clear pond in about 14 -21 days with little work other than heaving a five-gallon bucket of solution into the pond.

What tool did you use to make the cut? I’ve been having an adventure. I’m using a 10 inch miter saw and it’s too small. I took a piece I bought to Home Depot and the post is too large for the Home Depot machine and they can’t cut it.
@commonsenseprojects
@commonsenseprojects 22 дня назад
U can use a circular saw. Just mak 4 cuts all the way around the post. Then u a hand saw to finish the cut.

The cross is 5’x8’ and is 7.25”wide and 3.50”deep. Let me kno how it turns out.
@commonsenseprojects
@commonsenseprojects Месяц назад
Thanks for the questions. Yes the original crosses were hollow. These crosses are made with a 6x6 wrapped with A 1x8. If I were to duplicate them I would need to use 8x8s. Big $$$ In order to make the 12ft cross I would need to use a 16ft timber because I’d need to cement it in the ground 4ft. Also it would be extremely top heavy and difficult to stand up and drop it in the hole. These crosses are very light weight. I temporally left the back piece off. All I needed to do is stand it up and nail the back piece on. They were a lot of fun, I’m glad u enjoyed the video. Check out my video on how to make a back lit church cross. U mite enjoy that project as well.

May I ask why you didn’t just use solid 6x6” were the originals hollow as well. Either way they look beautiful

A little masonry sand mixed 75/25 with mortar mix cement will help lock all that together. Do not use play sand or common gravel as they are both rounded and you’ll be fixing this hole again very soon. Thanks for posting. It took me years before someone turned me on to this idea.

Good Morning, Just put in a front loading washer and dryer in our kitchen between a wall and the fridge. Would like to install a removable butcher block counter top to make it a usable and aesthetically pleasing counter surface. Needs to be removable in case of any issue with the plumbing/machines. Two questions... Was thinking of placing a 2x2 along the back wall for supporting the back. But need legs in the front to support those corners. Was thinking that securing the leg to the butcher block itself would allow removal of the top in Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. A neighbor has some beautiful antique table legs but they are too short. I'd it possible to elongate the legs and have them be stable enough?
@commonsenseprojects
@commonsenseprojects 4 месяца назад
Hello and thanks for the question. 2x2 is a good idea. Make sure to screw it to the wall studs. The legs can certainly be extended. Use 2 screws for each leg. Fasten the leg threw the topside of counter top and into the leg. You can remove the top if u need to. As for the extension, if the bottom is square (for example 3x3 square and u need to extend it 6 inches) use a molding or a piece of 1x lumber that’s at least 8 inches tall or taller. Over lap the leg around the bottom. If your extension needs to be longer. (For example 24 inches)rip a piece of 1x lumber at least 26 inches tall or longer. The longer the better. And fasten it to the leg with screws. It would be stronger to use a 1x piece of wood instead of a molding. Then fasten the leg to the floor with metal L brackets with screws. U can remove the screws if you need to. If you can let me kno if this was helpful. Or send me any further questions. Thanks.

This was so helpful. My ponds are covered with this stuff. Is there anything that kills it?
@commonsenseprojects
@commonsenseprojects 9 месяцев назад
Yes chemical treatments are available and very effective but very expensive. Unfortunately once you have eliminated one problem you create another. Theres a product called Wipeout. Along with pond die. I have a 3/4 acre pond and the cost was $1,400. But soon after that algae began to grow. And had to treat that. I never had algae before. Visit www.weknowponds.com. Or call 586- 336 -7663. They have the answers you need.

This is very timely as I am currently installing a fence with 3 gates. I am placing chain link gates mounted on wood posts. What size bit would you use to make a pilot hole for a 1/2” x 4” screw hook? It was also suggested I put oil on the screw to make it easier to screw into the 4” x 4” post. Thoughts on that?
@commonsenseprojects
@commonsenseprojects 10 месяцев назад
A 3/8 drill bit would work but only drill it 3 inches deep. Oil is good but small amount of soap works best.

I have two ponds 1 1/2 acres, 25 feet deep in southern Ohio. I put 6 Amurs (triploid carp) in each pond and never have problems with pond weeds. They are eating machines, but do not reproduce. When I cut the grass, they follow me and eat whatever clippings go into the pond. My ducks and geese also eat it.

Quick question. How tight of a fit is too tight? I installed mine today and it feels a tad snug. Slid under the counter slightly easily. However floor is semi uneven. Should I Uninstall and fit with a shim?
@commonsenseprojects
@commonsenseprojects 10 месяцев назад
You should be fine as long as the glue makes good contact on both surfaces. Still caulk to help the leg stay in place.
