45 year old here. It wasn't until just now that I got the "Premier's on the brakes" line. All my life I thought MCs and DJs were saying "breaks," as in break beats. . . Nah. . . DJs oprerate wheels of steel. Turntables (some) have steels wheels that resemble brake rotors!!!! Don't hold me, fam. Life is about learning.
When I was a kid and looking up to my brother while he was listening to WU, I was captivated but I never knew or understood the tall guy with the cleft tongue raps, I thought he made the others look bad, like they was loyal to their friend, so gave him a verse and was always at the end. But....after going thru my hip hop journey of 30+ years worth and RZA really caught my attention during the era of the producers 2005-2015) between Dr Dre, Timbaland, Kanye, Pharrell and Swizz beats you would always hear RZA name come up and I'm like huh? Why? Then the man with the iron fists came out and I'm in my 20s by then so my ear is tweaked more, plus black thought became my #2 favorite MC by then, behind Nas. So I'm mature and WU comes back up every year, and my favorite Wu members was the obvious method, ghost, Rae. But then I been on like 2-3 ODB binges, now I'm learned...but I get to 2023 and Nas & WU is touring - Yo When I Say RZA comes out on the Turntables playing 4th chamber BLARING thru the speakers, after they cycle the catalogue, In your 30s is when you appreciate RZA on a whole other level for lyricism and everything else you already loved him for. And you realize he was ahead of his time and that's why that supreme mindset isn't understood to a adolescent brain. That shit crazy. "Thru a man's iris"
