@@thewookiieuk I'm thinking of getting the 10ft comp special I've got a greys gr40 but time for a second rod and greys prices are going up all the time
Looked a lovely day, I've used the perception with my stillmaniac #7 casts okay but I just don't like the feel of the rod, also used rede river long haul on it, just got my nano number 7s on Thursday I'm going to use them this week. I tried one at a #5 with the spey line and I was casting just as far a s i do with my #7. I'll needto get some casting lessons. Hope you're okay pal. I love the perception line. I find having th green bit just inside the 1at or 2nd ring feels better to cast or right at the tip.
Thanks for the comment 👍 The perception line is a great line, which has very little memory or stretch. I'm a big fan.. Will be interested to hear you get on with the nano. Let me know what you think of it.....
@@thewookiieuk the gold is a good line also, but for me not being a good caster the 49 or so feet head isn't too good for me. The spey line has a head of 34 feet.
I find short head lines more difficult to turn over. do you have the same problem.?? I tend to fish much longer leaders on floating lines so a longer head length seems to help it all land straight..
@@thewookiieuk I'd agree with your second comment. I find it easier to cast with 30ish foot head but I'm a terrible caster. I used my nano rod last week. Caught a few fish and I'm really impressed with it. So light aswell.
Thank you. Used the Rod again yesterday and think it's one of those rods you have to adjust your cast to get the most out of... The Wychwood RS2 that i bought recently seems to cast for you. Both good rods..
Much better with the music mate, good job, but I did notice you still got plastic on handle, it will cause the cork to rot if you leave it there, but some great fish and keep the videos coming. Thanks
Took the plastic off today.. Went out and got rained on. But it's still nice to be out. Thanks for your kind words. we are still learning what you guys like and dislike. It's great to have good feedback...
Thanks for your comment.. As a new channel, it's hard to know what creative direction to take. Watch our fish frenzy video and tell me if that's is any better. Music is more low-key and only in the first few minutes.... Your feedback is important, and thanks for the comment...
The RS2 comp it a fast action rod. I've heard good things about its performance and finish. I opted for the RS2 because I have a fairly relaxed casting style and tend to use the rod loading to do the work, so I prefer something a little less aggressive. The RS2 casts with very little effort even in windy conditions with a floating line. I'm very pleased with it ...
Well done Dave cracking sport along with some cracking fish Just noticed on your handle I would advise that you remove the plastic covering off the handle as if it manages to get damp underneath for some reason it will rot the cork 👍🎣 Keep up the good work
Thank you. I will remove the cover from the handle. I remember 30 odd years ago buying my first trout set up a 9ft 7 half Wells handle. I still have it, and the plastic never got removed to this day. You are right. it would be a shame to do damage a great new rod...
Yes, it is always found it a bit overweight for a 7wt, so I moved to the Rede River, which I love. But brought the perception back out when I bought the RS2, and it casts perfectly in windy conditions with no effort at all ....
@@thewookiieuk I only got the perception line a few days ago and used it for the 1st time yesterday. Love it. Also got the gold line which has a much longer head. I had the rede river long haul mk1 that is very good aswell.
I Have the Gold in a 5wt for my Wychwood RS 9ft 6wt with a new Green Aluminium cast reel all ready to go when we get some calmer weather I'll do another rod review with this out fit. I do love a 9ft rod its all we used 35 years ago when I started...
Thank you, Brian. It's only a small lake but great quality, hard fighting fish, as you can see in the video. The smaller blues had so much fight for the size... I'm looking at the airflow superstick 2 as a third rod. I've seen some good offers on the 10ft 7/8 weight .. or maybe a snowbee diamond....
@@thewookiieuk nice, my very 1st rod was an airflow delta classic. Heavy but very good. I wa sout yesterday. Was a lot windier than it was supposed to be. Blanked. Weather the day before and today much better 🙄😂I have done well when it's wild I got soaked through to my underwear before and caught 6 but yesterday was so cold. My hands were red before ei started but first outing of the year and new line to try.
Fred and Myself Fish in all weathers and have had some great days when the thinking man stays indoors.. Sinking lines and extreme cold weather can mean really blue fingers. After loosing the tip of one of my fingers last year (can be seen nail less in old videos) it hates the cold... We are out again Sunday rain or shine.. Glad your out fishing and hoping the fish gods reward you with a PB on your next trip..
Thanks for the comment it means a lot. Some savage takes. Really strong fighting fish and the reason catch and release waters should still be an option..
You'll need a licence and the land owner or fishing syndicates/Clubs consent to fish. We are based in Kent so we have very little River fishing for Trout available to us...
We are enjoying the ride and loving all the support we are getting from you. We need to get more people out fishing supporting our small still waters. A big thank you for your comment it means a lot 🙏
@@thewookiieuk no problem mate, I've got 2 stillmaniac #6 and 2 greys #8 I'm going to go for a number #7 and deciding to go for the rs2 or the maxcatch nano rrp 160. I'll need to try both. Love the look of the places you fish. Great to see the tactics and hear you talk about what you're doing.
Iven had Maxcatch rods and find them far better than expected. Both rods should be a great choice. Let me know which rod you opt for and how you get on with it.....
Hi Mark The line is a Maxcatch perception 7wt. I've had it around 3 years now. It's three tone and has very little stretch. It retailed at around £20 when I bought it and has been amazing... I also used the Rio Aqualux clear intermediate, which is an absolute weapon of a line but hard to turn over, but wow, does it cast ..... Thanks for watching.....
I have a Wychwood 10ft RS comp #7 and its been an absolutly great rod, I use it on the big fisheries like Lechlade for the biggher flies and I can't find fault with it. I think you'll be very happy with it. keep the videos coming 🙂
Almost bought the comp. It was a close call. I'm looking forward to Sunday weather permitting to give the rod a bit more time in the hand. Love your channel and keep up the good work, my friend...
Some nice rod bending there mate. When it comes to fishing gear buy what you can afford because if you buy cheap you buy twice that rod will last you years 👊
I may have broken one of the wychwood rs2’s at thornwood a couple of years back lol - I really liked the rod though it’s just a little softer than lots of the other rods on the market and a complete joy to cast
I hope that Leeda ensure continued parts availability for the new RS2! I have both the 9'6" and 10' 7wt original RS2s and are lovely fishing rods. However I broke a section on the 10' rod last January, probably my fault. Leeda advised that I was a week or so out of warranty, which was fair enough but when I asked to purchase a replacement section I was told that no parts were available for this model, even though these rods were still being offered by online stores! Very disappointing and rod now sits, unuseable in my tackle room. I now look very carefully at warranties when considering a new rod. £200 wasted in my opinion!
Very good pattern. Had so many takes, and they are well priced. It's not a gimmick pattern it's a fish taker. Tight lines, Gary, and let us know how you get on......
The kick ass damsel does work well on a floating line but I think it defo does it’s most devastating work on an intermediate line either crept back or twitched back l….. had so many fish on those patterns it’s crazy
Very good patern.I had takes on three colours. They are very slow sinking, so the Intermediate line would help get them down. I fish intermediate too much, I think. I just like the in touch with the fly nature of fishing it, and the depth count helps understand where the fish are in the water colum...
Nice to touch base last week at Brick Farm and thanks for the advice. Dirty water 6ft but somewhere as clear as Brick farm Spring lake I'd increase the length to around 10ft.
I've not yet found two still waters with the same rules. Even found one fishery that has a rule on rod length to be used. I suppose it sets a different challenge per venue...
Many thanks for the comment. This time of year is always challenging. I've joined the league at this great venue and have not fished it a great deal. This was one of two recent trips to learn the water before the league starts in September.
Picked up one of the season tickets a few weeks back …. Ten fish and as many trips as it takes to catch those fish….godsend in the hot summer weather as fishing is tough especially in the south east of England. Been at brick farm a lot recently as it’s one of the few waters locally that you can still catch the odd fish June-august. Not blanked yet …. Washing lines with small flies and a blob normally saves my day. See a lot of anglers still stripping lures and getting blanks
Hi Chad I didn't know about membership and the ten fish ticket until speaking to another angler. Fantastic venue that still fishes in the hot months. Buzzers on stag always fun, but weed prevented this on this trip.
That short was shot at Tenterden Trout Waters kent. It's a day ticket water open to the public 10 months of the year. Currently closed for the summer..
Hi Bob I'm unable to add an image in the comments. I did show the fly in the video at one point. It does have black foam eyes. Great fly due to the disturbance it makes when pulling. Really can be a game changer on a tough day fished on the Intermediate line.⚫️
@@thewookiieuk Hi. Many thanks for sending the link, much appreciated. I recognised the fly immediately. I’ve just searched all through my boxes and bags of trout flies and found the exact fly, the reason I asked you was because a couple of seasons ago I spanked the trout with this same fly at all fisheries. Tight Lines. Bob.👍👍👍🎣🎣🎣
Hi Gary Love Spring Hill fantastic water. The brown only lakes are a nice feature, and the chance of winning £100 catching a tagged fish is a nice touch...

It was lovely weather, but it was a tough day, and when you miss the takes on a tough day when chances are thin on the ground, it makes it a little tougher ...
