I can barely make out that your head unit model is the L7 ENTRY model(i think), I have an 03-13 L7 ENTRY, not CIC or NBT, what model MMI and Screen would be compatible?
Since your L7 ENTRY head unit was compatible with that MMI, I am hoping to get the right one by getting the same one you got. not necessarily the same vendor, but the same type, either NBT 6-PIN or CIC 6-PIN.
@@jayare7750 The MMI box itself has different settings to set it to different screen types and sizes which is helpful. Unfortunately I dont lnow what screen would be compatible with your car as in another video, a screen that was supposed to be compatible with mine wasn’t. Hope this helps
Yes mate, did you ever get round to trying a different screen at all? Thinking of doing the same, I've found an F20 screen that was on a 1 series but not sure if it will work.. got a 2012 1 series with the same standard screen!
Hi, no sorry. After posting this video I did try another screen which fit perfectly but again ran into some issues. Turns out that it wasn't a simple coding problem. Personally I don't mind the smaller screen now, but if I wanted one I think I would have just got the Android screen. Alot less hassle. But if you do find a system that works, make sure to put it below and ill check it out 👍
Unfortunately I don't know this as people are telling me its CIC even though it has the NBT layout, so I cant answer that. The best was is either trying the forums or maybe someone else in the comments can help
Heya love the vids! Have the same car, and was wondering how you were getting the jack stands in place in the front? I was thinking of jacking from the front central but noticed in ur first shot you came in from the side so was wondering how you got the stands in
Heya, thank you so much for the support. So because i only have a small jack at the moment and not one of the larger trolley jacks i have to jack the car up from either the back or the front higher than you normally would in order to slide the jack stand under the other jacking point. Its not the greatest idea and wouldnt recommend it, but it does work 👍

Hi, does this affect sound quality of music etc? I installed an android screen but I ended up returning it because it made my sound system sound trash. I was wondering if the mmi box affects sound quality too?
Not that ive found, i do like my music and did at first have a little interference but found it was one of the accessory wires grounding out and was fixed with a little electrical tape

yeah i was looking at installing one but the wiring alone would take me hours so decided against it. There are alot of companies such as Bimmertech that do provide universal cameras, but its justifying the time at the moment for something i wouldnt really use

I wont recommend the exact same company as they were awful with their customer service. If you are wanting a similar mmi box, i recommend bimmertech or droiduk
I also have a F20 1series 19 model. Would appreciate if you could suggest a suitable mmi box. In Bimmertech they have a few models and am not sure what to get.
that grill was a nightmare to remove. had to break 2 fins so that i could fit my hand through. couldn't finagle my way through the bumper either because it didn't flex enough.
@@ianparker8414 was contemplating doing that for a while but then i removed them and ended up selling the grilles for the price of the new ones, so really it didnt cost me anything to change them
Personally I love Pipercross as just feel that you are getting more value for money, however (and I might be wrong) but I think that the K&N filters use more premium materials so might last longer but it all depends on the application and environment that you're running. K&N claim that their filters clog less, however pipercross say that this is because their filters have better filtration properties (depends which marketing team you want to believe more 😂). If I had the money to dyno the car and use a bunch of different filters I'd be able to backup my points but until I start monetizing videos, that's going to be a while yet 😂
the reason is due to different voltage to power the screens. and also, the screen youve got is actually the small nbt evo screen. so it is still 6.5 inch. Also, youve got cic. which means you have hu_entry. You cant code a larger screen to hu_entry. you will need to swap head unit to hu_entrynav or hu_nbt if you want larger screen! Cheers mate. This button is only in cars with front parking sensors. You installed it in a car with back sensors only. What shows up in screen when pressing the pdc if u have no front sensors? I want to if its of any use.
So when I made the video, I was informed by a BMW tech that all I needed to do was to splice a wire into the main harness and re-pin the connector with said wire. However, I've later found out that its more trouble than that, so I've reinstalled the original drive mode unit
Stage 1 remap and you’ll have 220hp and 310nm. If you live in London I recommend going NVM Motorsport. To get your tuning. But I also suggest doing intake and intercooler upgrade before doing stage 1 remap.
Yeah so I'm currently working on handling before I make any performance upgrades as the car at the moment is too soft on the suspension and corners horribly on the country roads around me. But a remap will be happening in the future, probably summer next year when I can travel more
I've got a Carplay/Android auto screen/display but I'm not happy with how inconsistent and laggy it is. I was wondering how's the MMI box been for you in terms of it's consistency with calls and connecting to Carplay/Auto and does your one have reverse camera compatibility? I'm thinking of getting a full android screen but the price is making me hesitant even though I know it'll be worth it.
We have fitted many Android touchscreens with reverse camera's for BMWs, they have wireless Apple CarPlay/Android auto, ability to watch RU-vid/Netflix etc.!
the android screen shine like a mirror and look grey when turned off. The BMW ones are matt and black what i like better. When the android ones are hit direct sunlight you cant see anything!
So for some reason I have problems with the oem microphone when I'm driving, but not when I'm parked. Think it has something to do with the systems harness. Might need to make a custom one from scratch. Apart from that the system runs great, just wish I had the bigger screen as the the main screen with multiple windows on it makes the map hard to see. Not a problem that you get with the bigger screens. But at the end of the day its a user preference.
Thank you and found out after this video was posted that you need it wiring in (was under the impression that it was a coding issue), however it just seems to be one wire connected to the control box under the centre console

So I had some leftover Hexis satin black wrap left over from when I had my MX5 so used that. And the reason for the video is that you don't see many people do it, as they usually just retrofit the M sport front bumper, but for now this will do
I have EXACTLY the same car you have - colour, age, spec etc. Bought it 2 years ago; was shopping for a Honda S2000 but couldn't believe how much they'd shot up in price (I wanted a good one) - £20K plus for a low mileage minter?! Tripped over the MX5 - one of those you only hear about - one elderly owner from new (bought it as a retirement present to himself) - kept in a heated garage, only used on dry sunny days - 27,000 miles without even a stonechip. Full annual service history with main dealer - doesn't get much better. And it drove like a new car - no squeaks, rattles - not the cheapest at £7,500 - but - find another like it... The only snag was a slightly seized front caliper (common issue with MX5's if they aren't used regularly) - but was cheap as chips, so replaced calipers, discs and pads all round just through age rather than wear. It was obvious car had been very lightly used and very gently driven. Was on original tyres (yikes!) - so those were replaced with a set of lightweight dished alloy wheels which I had powder coated bronze - which really works against the Copper Red. The stance I couldn't live with - looked like a mini 4x4 (apparently, they raised the suspension to comply with US bumper height regulations - shades of the MGB for anyone old enough to remember the rubber-bumper version which had a similar tippy-toe stance to make the US compliance) so a set of Eibach springs at under £200 (cheapest place was local Mazda main dealership!) specifically for the PHRT hard-top version were acquired and fitted. Now it sits JUST right - doesn't look lowered at all - there is just an inch between top of tyres and wheel arches - not like the previous gap where you could have got both hands in and wound wool.. Modest carbon fibre rear ducktail spoiler, and I thought I was sorted. Oh! I also had it rust proofed as a precautionary measure at Krown in Dudley (highly recommend those guys) - who gave me a special discount as it WAS the first entirely rust-free MX5 they'd EVER seen... He was adamant at booking, they'd find some rust (they remove bumpers, all underbody trays, arch liners etc) - they'd never seen an MX5 without. Mine WAS the first... Not even any surface. So the promised discount was applied as the bet was won :) And so I thought I was finished.. BUT. Whilst I enjoyed the open top experience and the handling (springs improved that no end too) - I COULDN'T live with the gutless performance. My "Daily" is a 430d which has been remapped to around 300bhp and silly levels of torque. the MX5 wouldn't even see it's tail lights.. I knew this at the outset and was prepared for it - and all of the reviews go on about it being proof you don't need power to have fun - but the pleasure of blatting round country lanes quickly got squashed when I was blown away by some oik in a 118d on a sliproad to join a motorway... Something HAD to be done. After much thought, consideration and research - car went to BBR for their Stage 2 Turbo conversion. Dropped it off with just over 150bhp, collected it a week later with 300bhp. The journey home was somewhat different to the journey there!!! Crazy price (more than the car!) - but SOMEHOW sold it to myself on the basis genuine BBR cars seemed to sell for pretty much the value of the standard car PLUS most of the conversion cost - and at £16k ish, it would STILL be cheaper than an S2000 of equivalent condition and mileage (probably £10k plus cheaper!) - and would blow it into the weeds. There WERE a few teething problems - and getting used to the carbon fibre twin plate clutch has taken a while - it's part of the conversion as the standard clutch, even a new one, just won't cope with the torque. Main problems were a wandering idle speed (cured by replacing one of the (new!) injectors and some more mapping - and finally realizing the sports cat fitted as part of the new exhaust system was faulty (MOT time showed that up BIG time!!) and was replaced. All done FOC under warranty at BBR. But WHAT a transformation... It's now the car (IMHO) it always could have been. It's docile at low speeds - up to 25% throttle and you wouldn't know it's been turbo'd) - but give it more and it just FLIES... Completely different animal. And you don't have to wring it out through the gears either (unless you want to!!) - the torque is amazing. Squeeze the throttle at 70mph in top, and the nose lifts and it just takes off. The look on people faces as I've watched them (often in quite high performance machinery) go small in the rear view mirror has given me more genuine Laugh Out Loud moments than anything I've ever had. It's the joke that will never get old. Until i lose my licence, I guess.... :0 :0 :0 I've gone from liking it to LOVING it. I KNOW it's a lot of money - and most seem happy with the car in standard form - but hell - you are a long time dead.... Enjoy yours, anyway!
I solved the corrosion issue for my MX5s by moving to Australia 😁 My 07 hardtop has not a speck of rust on it, but we won't talk about the gearbox whine.....
