This channel is all about discovering the truth about Ben Hogan's golf swing. So many people say there is a secret when it comes to understanding Hogan's golf swing. Not true at all. I have uncovered the hidden geometry of Ben Hogan's swing which has allowed me to get a deeper understanding of the geometrical patterns in which Ben Hogan was performing his golf swing. It is this understanding that has allowed me to uncover the truth, there are No More Secrets, and share these factual discoveries with the golfing world once and for all.
All the greats' hand path on the downswing at left arm parallel down is outside the hands at left arm parallel back. It's the most natural motion. If their hand paths were the same or even under, you would have never heard of them. 98% today on tour are the same way. Look at Hovland, he's doing it almost more than anyone.
Hi Chris, I just discovered why Mr Hogan talked about pressuring the middle two fingers in the right hand grip which is to keel the right hand pad snugly over the right thumb at the top of the backswing where if I do not have this pressure there is a lifting of the right hand pad off the left thumb. I dont remember if you mentioned this in your grip vid. can you speak to this point. am i on the right track? thanks
Chris i have no doubt this is a good golf swing what i did notice when doing it was my ball flight was quite high for a 8 iron i wonder if that was because i had the ball to far forward in my stance ?
Chris, I think it may be more accurate to say that the lead and trail elbows go around together with the body rather than "around the body." This implies that the body does not move but is the center around which the elbows go around. What do you think?
This lower body movement is amazing... Two weeks training and I feel balanced and powerful in the feet, legs and hips. My buddies noticed the improvement in my rotation, and it's killed off the F#@% shit Side bend that is Really Bad for the lower back... Anyone teaching side bend needs a swift kick in the balls... I hope everyone gets this fundamental lesson and puts in the Required Work because... It just Works... Thank you Chris 💯👍👍 Qld😎Australia
Isn’t it true with the old driver they still hit down slightly on it? What about today’s new drivers where we’re supposed to hit up slightly? Do we need to manufacture spine tilt then?
Hi Chris, I am realizing every movement Mr. Hogan made had a purpose. For example the little pully on left side in. set up is really done by straightening the right leg which pushes the left hip back this gives him the feel he wants as he comes into the ball it also gives him the feel of the left leg which I think, not that he needed it, for me at least helps me focus on “Rotating” around the left side. Any thoughts? Thanks for the great content.
Well Chris, I have been watching your videos for a year now and practicing when I can. Today, I went to the range and still no improvement. Same issue: can't keep the club face square (tend to close it on impact and at times leave it open.) I've seen many good golfers with different backswings who manage to square the clubface at impact, but I can't as my wrists just want to turn over. The other issue that still persists is not taking a divot after the ball, so I know if I don't chunk it than I am scooping it. I was hoping that if your videos really helped, then I happily move on to the master class. I think you were my last best hope :(
Without understanding the power angle of the lead side, a golfer will strike through the ball without a sense of confidence with regard to keeping his sense of balance.
Whenever I have had trouble striking the ball I would try simply bending my right elbow more readily in the beginning of the backswing. It led to more effectively striking the ball. I worried that bending my right elbow too quickly upset power in the swing. But if doesn’t negate the tension in the backswing. It’s more reassuring to not need to bring the hands up in the backswing. To keep the hands just under the right shoulder is a better set up to striking the ball. With my hands a little too high I can’t effectively feel for the re-centering move in the downswing.
I’ve been spiraling since I was six years old. Never hit a hook in my life, unless I altered my set up. I was once told, I had to hit draws and get rid of my opened club face which was due to my cupped left wrist at the top of my backswing. ( I’m right handed ) It felt so strange to go against my natural tendency. Really appreciate your perspective Chris. 🇨🇦💝🇺🇸🙏🥰
Hi Chris! Brilliant information. I thought I was turning on the left the right way. Boy was I wrong. Once I started using the left side the way you suggested a different world opened up Wow! I've watched so many videos and got so confused I was on the verge of quitting. Finally a golf instructor who knows what he's talking about! 🏌♀
Does you actually ever hit a ball? What is your handicap? What is your swing speed? Who are your best students? This is all theoretical and interpretation.
Got to say Chris that I've been immersing myself in yours, John Erikson and Bradley Hughes' stuff on the Hogan swing for the last month and my ball striking is off the charts from where it was beforehand. Feel like I'm compressing the crap out of the ball and apart from the odd pull are going arrow straight. What's your thoughts Chris on flatter lie angles, which I've not heard you speak about but John and Bradley are adamant that the great ball strikers Ben Hogan, Knudson, Trevino et al used? Appreciate all your video's Chris, look forward to them all 😀👍
Years ago a friend of mine took a “golf lesson” from Paul Bertholy and it was nothing more than a fire side chat and a copy of his book. He never hit a ball. He learned a great deal. I think Chris is that kind of teacher and should listen carefully. Well done Chris. You are one of the best teachers on the internet. 🇨🇦💝🇺🇸🥰
Hogan did not look 'backed in' at the top of the backswing. He also advised to restrict turning the hips to build up tension which he said was the key to the downswing as the tension gave you something to work with.
What you didn’t say was that you started and finished with most of your weight on your lead foot. I did like how you showed the difference in hip rotation as it relates to the back leg position. With the wide angle lens, it’s not as obvious in appearance as your experience of how its position feels.
Great video. You identified some things I struggled with, like the flat wrist. Trying to maintain awkward angles and shoulder tilts caused me to lock up in my swing. The cupped wrist with spiralling feels natural and has improved my consistency.
Still missing the point of that extra spike. You won't understand what the spike is for until you understand. It's not really something you can teach. You have to learn it yourself. Once you do then someone else who understands could help refine it. Hogan did not really want to give any secrets out and actually got upset with golfers that did share little nuggets. The lessons he gave are just basic info and won't really change your swing.
This is a very interesting concept. I've never really thought about shoulder path for draw and fade, but it explains why my stock shot is a slight fade. I tend to have a slightly open stance at address (grew up without alignment sticks and always aimed more left than I should have) but because my eyes are more in line with my shoulders and the club, I probably tended towards a more closed shoulder line. Can't wait to test this concept out to see if it finally explains my inability to draw the ball
This is all fine and good, Hogan had a great swing, everyone agrees. THe modern players shoot much lower scores today than Hogan did so there is nothing wrong with the modern swing in not duplicating Hogan's movements. 😊
