Nice shave! I just picked up one of these in silver. For gents like me with a low slung beard, it lines up and details beautifully. For those who may think it “too” mild, a Feather blade gives me the closest shave ever. (Been shaving 37 years, using both DE razors and cartridges) Your mileage may vary, but for me a winner!
Couldn’t pick one TBH for daily shaves, they are both good. If I have a 3 day plus growth, then I would go with the twig. Not a fan with the clogging. Also, if you don’t like pivoting heads, go with the Twig.
@@promomela3085 The proof is definitely milder in comparison. Another one is 1 blade, this is the razor that I rekon is underrated. Blades cost more yes, but the razor is great. I almost forgot I had sensitive spots on my neck when I used it for a month straight. You also get only 2-3 shaves per blade.
Very nice review. Doesn't appear that this razor is available in the U.S. Interestingly, Quattro blades are being sold at a cheap price: an eight pack for $12.00. Perhaps this razor is designed to replace the Quattro. I am a big fan of the Hydro 5. As a daily shaver with a light beard, it works for me. Looking forward to your future reviews.
Hey Karl, thanks a ton. Wow $12 for a 8 pack is cheap for sure. And I couldn’t agree more, Hydros are simply the best. Hydro sensitive review coming this weekend ✌🏼😎
I remember also picking one of those Schick razors from Aldi, I think it was $15, if I remember it shaved OK but I didn't keep it. Take care brother👌😎👌
Good to know I wasn’t the only one looking for shaving gear. Feel like it’s becoming a problem. We were shopping for cutlery and I was looking at bowls for potential lathering 🤣🤣
Haven’t tried Harry’s as they are not here in Australia yet. Between the other 2, Schick Hydro hands down my friend is the hero. Gillette Fusion 5 is great but they got nothing on the Hydro.
@@preeper_ sure bud. Tell me more so I work towards it as best as possible. What are you using/ used (razor and after shave). Whats the ideal outcome from an aftershave for you? You would be helping a lot of others who are perhaps in the same boat. Cheers ✌🏼
@@allydz Sure, double safety, Gillette, Silver, I use Dorco now since no longer have access to the original Gillette. For aftershave, Arko, Intesa, some local brands. Mostly to relieve skin, some products just have flavor, moisturizing is not enough.
Great all Muhle shave Alroy😀 I don't have a Muhle R89 but do have the brother EJ DE89 and it's a wonderful mild shaver, like you said good for Daily or beginner type shaver, good thing about Muhle and EJ products is they are readily available in many shaving shops. Take care brother👌🤠👌
@@allydz In my country i find proglide blade with the orange gel, is this old or new model? There are five different proglide blades from what i see on internet : Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power with green gel Gillette Fusion5 ProGlide Power with orange gel Gillette Fusion5 ProGlide Power with green gel Gillette ProGlide Power with orange gel Gillette ProGlide Power with green gel.
@@lestattsia9365 they are all just minor variations with those blades. The orange guard will work totally fine brother. Do look into the differences I pointed out in the video, although minor; some work better than the other completely depending on your skin and hair type. There’s always amazon if you can’t find variants locally. Cheers
Thanks for the video Ally. I have been using Gillette cartridge razors (the likes of Gillette proglide razor) for over a decade but recently become aware of the merits of safety razors (closer shaves, less irritation, more economical, less ingrown hairs, more eco friendly, etc). I was considering getting Gillette proglide power (never used the power variant) but now am also considering getting a safety razor. I am thinking of purchasing a safety razor to try it out. Since I'm new to safety razors, which safety razor would you recommend? Also found there's single edge safety razor and double edge safety razor, what might you recommend to a newbie?
Hi again. Firstly if the cartridge is working great for you, apart from eco-friendly, the other things you mentioned as benefits are non-existent. Safety razors are definitely not cheaper to use barring in mind you spend more money on soaps, brushes, splashes, etc. Having said that, I say everyone should experience the luxury of shaving with DE, definitely any mild razor you get will still give you a good shave. King C Gillette, Muhle R89, Edwin Jagger DE89, the list goes on. Personally I believe it's a great idea to shave with both. Cartridge for speed and efficiency, Safety razor to improve technique and control.
Yes, Beard and Blade are fantastic. I've been buying all my stuff from them for a couple of years now, including my T2 as well. I have much the same experience with the Rockwell blades as you, but the Razor, with a Feather blade for me, even on setting 6, is smooth as silk.
Adam... firstly, thanks for watching. Beard & blade is really a great company, Also feather is such a great idea, I'm surely going to try it soon. Cheers mate 😀😎💈👍
Even though that razor is slant but it's not super aggressive I think it's a good razor for those people who have sensitive skin but want to use a razor which is a little efficient for them so that they can have a near BBS shave. What's your opinion Ally?
I love the ridges on top, reducing face contact. Not many razor companies think of that. I have had issues with razor caps suctioning to my face, breaking up my shave.
@@drytool this depends on the individual who sees the same inefficiency. My DE razor cuts the hair away with one stroke. So it is much much more efficient than the razor in the video.
@@WS1965-GE I definitely pushed the limit with the length of my stubble, so I wouldn't recommend it to someone who shaves once every 4-5 days or more. From an efficiency POV, think it's designed more for individuals that have sensitive skin in mind cuz it's super mild. I would recommend this to a daily shaver in a heartbeat. This also is a great starting point for individuals who are nervous to make the switch from carts ✌️🙂
@@WS1965-GE Whose hair and when? Different people have different hair coarseness, shave with different frequency, and have different skin types. I think even the humidity levels in the air can make a difference from shave to shave, not to mention what blade is put in the razor, so how can you look at one guy shaving on one particular day with one particular blade and make a judgement that is meaningful?
@@drytool Hello Drytool, you can see an answer from the video creator. He also says that the razor is a mild razor and that confirms my opinion. Maybe you can make the razor more aggressive with a Feather blade but with the delivery condition the razor is less efficient or mild. Have a good one W.
Hey AllyDZ! I own both of these razors. I use them for the back of my neck and shoulder areas. While both give very close and smooth shave experiences, the power version is more comfortable! I can barely even feel the blade from the power Fusion! By far, these Gillettes shave closer than DSC, Harry's, Bic, and Schick! They are pricier, but you receive what you pay for. If you get coupons from mailers, on line, etc. it makes it worth even more! Thanks so much for this review! JimG
@JimG Thanks for sharing your experience !! My experience is the same and the Gillette power handles are definitely smoother. Guess what else I learnt from one of your comments, those Schick Quattro razors that I hated for their clogging…. They are awesome for daily shaves
@mridul7140 Invest in a decent mild razor, dont rush and focus on technique. It will definitely help you with a quality outcome. Might be the only razor you need, good luck
Hello, thank you very much for your very helpful review of the Peal Semi Slant L65. The head of this razor is a copy of the german Mulcuto Slant from the 1930s. So Pearl should have quite a nice success with this model in Germany. Pricewise it's a no brainer and just got on my wish list. Unfotunately the handle doesn't fit the 1930s streamline design of the razor head and is too slim and too long. At least the hexagonal details are helpful, because the asymmetrical head with one side beeing heavier than the other tends to roll in your hand. Lenghtwise I would prefer 88mm for the handle - it now seems to be the optimun most manufacturers settled on. Regarding Pearl I'd wish from them a better quality control, their own unique designs and a serious passion for their products. How Pearl handled the issues with the Pearl Flexi just showed an technical incompetence and that business is more important than their products and their customers. I hope Pear will use their full potencial in the future. Greetings from Germany Artur
Hi Arthur, thanks a lot for the info and details. I’m hoping a lot of viewers find it useful. Good to learn some new fun facts, thanks to the channel I get to learn from you all ✌🏼😎
That was a nice review ! Suggest me any good cartridge razor for a head shave 🪒 i usually used to buzz my hair for #2 in the summer but this time, i have thought to try a completely clean shaven bald look for a change & fun 🙂
@moviebites9570 thanks brother. I’m glad you liked it. As for carts for head shaves, look into Schick Hydro Sensitive. I suggested these to a colleague of mine who shaves his head clean 3 years ago, still loves it. Let me know how you go.
WRONG..Cartridge razors last over a month...DE razors last about 3 shaves.but i do love both. But , Best head shaves are the cartridge razors. .. for sure !
A month…. Mate u have something working for u that you need to share with the rest of us cart shavers. If I did head shaves, 100% cart would be the way to go.
Hey AllyDZ! The idea behind a slant razor is it is like a guillotine in where it slices the hair at an angle rather than just a straight cut. For people like myself with heavier beards, it provides a cleaner, more comfortable shave. I love my slants! One of my favorites is the Parker Semi Slant. This one though has peeked my interest! Thanks for the review! JimG
@JimG Thanks for sharinga always. I had shave with it, and the video will premier shortly today. I couldn't agree more. The slants are razors I never realised I will need 🤣🤣. Think I'm in trouble now.
Depends on your growth and bread thickness. Proglide styler is probably the best if u have heavy growth to trim first with the trimmer side and then shave. If the growth isn’t as heavy then the Proglide Power will work really well.
i prefer the regular older fusion 5 head carts(with wider micro-fins) . it's gives me a closer shave than the new fusion. about the handles i never tried the power
Great comparison Brother one thing I would say the new Fusion blades are much better than the old ones because the new one has a small rubber guide whereas the old ones had a big rubber due to which I feel that it pulls a little
Great comparison review Ally👏 and great demo of good shaving technique and a fellow tuber used to say "it's shaving not digging". One good thing about the Gillette Fusion range of carts is the carts are interchangeable throughout the range, I prefer to use the two bladed Skin-Guard carts in my power handle and I agree the power shave is better. Take care brother👌🤠👌
@@allydz I would consider doing the skin-guard review. I did do a series of videos on what I called Modern razors, so I could just continue that series, I'll look into it.
@@allydz Actually my power handle might be of a similar age. I don't use carts very often but I do keep my hand in on the carts, unlike many DE shavers I actually get on quite well with carts as long as I use my traditional shave procedures.💈😎🪒
In a pinch 100 percent rubbing alcohol it will instantly close your poreswhen you sweat your pours are open with rubbing alcohol it will instantly close the poures
Wonderful review, Most shaving channels dunk on cartridge razors, it is nice to see someone genuinely review and explain the technique needed to get a proper cartridge shave. Appreciate the tip about trimming your hair to 0.1mm to reduce irritation and the pulling. I'm going to try DE shaving because I have sensitive skin.
Cheers Ryan. Yea some of them hate carts with a passion. Shaving with a DE definitely helped me improve my technique and when applied to a cart, they elevated my overall shave experience. I do think carts seriously don’t work for some people but they are really not as bad as some shavers make them look like. Appreciate the kind words ✌🏼😎
It’s been over 3 years, works perfectly fine and is my favourite cartridge razor for cold days which is like 8 months here. Pretty sure they will cover it under warranty for 12m or 24m in Australia atleast from Consumer law.
@@AP-qu8sl It’s a great razor bud. Take care of it like anything else and it should last. Pro-tip, look up carts for Gillette labs (exfoliating bar) on Amazon for refills. They are the same carts and go on specials, that’s when you want to bulk order carts ✌🏼😎
cartridge razors are a scam... de blades are just better in every single point... even speed, at least when you have thicker hair and/or you want a smooth shave...
