Reporting on 8/27/2024, my local Costco selling this at $43 usd. I’m here to see whether it’s worth it to me or not. Think I’ll pull the trigger.

I passed WSET Spirits L1 with Distinction largely due to these videos. I registered for the class two days prior to the class starting. So I didn't have time to read the course materials. I took the class and tasting methods cold and only missed two questions. I'm now shadowing at two craft distilleries. Much Thanks Eric!

I tried a bottling from Glasgow distillery at the Bon Accord that had a similar profile to this. Did not specify Oloroso, just sherry cask. But was the richest, most dense whisky i ever had

I'm from Cork myself and to be honest, I love Paddy. Traditionally you'd dilute it with a bit of water. It's gorgeous stuff.

Erik, I live in SF and am heading to Scotland in November and plan to buy 6-10 bottles. Any guidance on Customs in SF apart from declaring it?
@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies
@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies 4 дня назад
U.S. Customs is no big deal. But if you travel within the USA and go through TSA you are limited to 5 liters of anything above 24% abv. per baggage. So flying to/trom SFO and Heathrow airport is not a problem. But, depending on how many bottles you have you may have to pay a fee for the extra weight.

@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies

That almond note probably comes from the maillard reaction of the direct fired stills.

2 of my favourite. I don’t like plain peat, I don’t like plain sherry. Uegadail peat plus sherry= bbq, highland park sherry plus spice/pepper 👍

Can't say I've seen the CS, but even in KS there is Nc'nean on the shelf. That's conclusive proof it's everywhere now. 😂 On my list of newbies to try, but I haven't done so yet.

@ErikWait, How much water do you prefer to add to your whisky? WSET uses a .5 oz of water to .5oz of spirit. For me, that it sort of washes away some notes. I really prefer a few drops and letting the spirit open up.
@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies
@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies 11 дней назад
I generally only add water to cask strength, whiskeys, and usually It’s about 2 teaspoons..

Been looking forward for this review. I noticed Nc'Nean for a few years now, but haven't had a chance to try yet. I think they just started distributing in the US which helps on the international shipping. I definitely will get a bottle. Thanks for the review. 🥃

Ugh, when you mentioned cask strength Old Pulteney, I suddenly remembered I bought a bottle of that a few years ago and I completely forgot about it. K&L Wines picked a 13 year old single cask that I immediately grabbed a bottle. I really should open that bottle soon.
@shuboy05
@shuboy05 12 дней назад
Someone on Reddit mentioned being told on the distillery tour that Old Pulteney experimented with aging their whisky inland and discovering that the whisky lost that salt note. Whether that is how Old Pulteney gets the salt note remains a mystery.

I really cant decide on this bottle. It is available in my area. I am a bushmills fan and Irish whiskey is my favorite whiskey especially single pot still. I can get multiple bottles of many Irish whiskies for the price of this bottle. I am really disappointed in the 12 yr old bushmills I got for Christmas. I would rather have the 10 and 16. But for the value my favorite is the black bush. So i just dont know if i can go over $200 for this. I can get 2-3 great bottles of other Irish like a red spot and a green spot in my market for $200. Or a Redbreast 12 cast strength and a powers john lane. I always consider two solid bottles over 1 that may leave me burned.

Nice review. Looks lika a great place to visit. This bottle was released here in Sweden a few months ago, and I got my hands on one. The fixed price here is sek934 ($88) in todays currency, (never any special discount prices here). I'm really looking forward to crack it open, as usual with a new whisky. I have/tried a few different Ardnamurchan and never been dissapointed so far.

Erik, glad to find your review of this one. Irish whiskey is my favorite style particularly pot still. Yellow spot and redbreast 12 are my favorite irish bottles. Tyrconnell just became available in my market and I am excited to try it. Your reviews and videos are always well done. I wish I had space in my home for a collection like yours! On a separate note, if you read this- I am wanting to explore port finished Irish and Scotch, particularly Islay single malt. Any recommendations for port finished bottles you like that won't break the bank?
@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies

Port seems to easily overwhelm a whisky. Have you tried the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 14 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky?
@CraigDoverton
@CraigDoverton 18 дней назад
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies actually based on your review of the Quinta Ruban 14, I did try it a couple of years ago and when writing my comment forgot it was port finished. It is a good dram. I am wondering if there is a smokey Islay where the port doesn't overwhelm but gives just enough dark fruit and plum and maybe stewed berries or jam notes behind the smoke along with a dark chocolate note? That to me would be a perfect flavor profile for a port finished scotch. Like having one of those dark chocolate bars with fruit in it while sitting by a dying campfire and enjoying the smell of smoke from the glowing bed of coals.

I visited Ardnamurchan in either 2018 or 19, beautiful location. They only had new-make spirit to try, I was sceptical but went for it, I have to say even that was nice. At the moment I have the AD(48.8), the AD/02.22(58.7) and the AD/05.23(58.3). They are coming along very nicely, the 2023 is noticeably better than the 2022. Darker and a bit more complex. Lovely stuff. I bought mine in Hi-Time wine in Cosa Mesa, about $85.
