Laphroaig 10 vs Ledaig 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Ledaig 10 hands down,in my opinion, it's one of my favorite peated ones

Good review Eric. Both are great whiskies, but I would lean more towards the Ledaig 10 personally. Ledaig 10 is only around £40 in the UK and its bottled at 46.3%

I'm intrigued to see the Scottish distilleries coloring outside the lines and playing a little bit with their offerings (new oak, peat in the Highlands, etc). But, I like weird and funky whisk(e)y offerings along with traditional; an equal opportunity drinker. As long as they denote the playfulness so new drinkers don't get turned off if their expecting a easy Highland and they get a waft of peat.

Great and concise breakdown of these two whiskies. To me, this isn't even a fair fight, but I'm a known Laphroaig 10 hater ... (I'm exaggerating, but I would also never choose it over the Ledaig). Cheers!

I'm with you Erik, there are so many I love, it's hard to pick favorites, it's all about your mood and what your feeling that day, like the Ardbegs I can not pick a favorite one day it may be the ugi, another the corry....and then the Port Charlotte OMG...

Thank you so much for the review, Erik! I was totally impressed by Ledaig recently (the best whisky I ever drank, IMO), so I wondered how it compares with Laphroaig 10. Unfortunately, here we have only 40% Laphroaig 10. Got my hands on Laphroaig Quarter Cask (unopened yet), so I was wondering whether it is worth to buy Laphroaig 10 additionally. Thanks for the great review!

For some reason I can't buy Ledaig 10 (or any other Ledaig) in my state of Pennsylvania. I can buy it if I make an hour drive each way to Delaware (bringing it home would be illegal), but it's also $88.99 per bottle. Laphroaig 10 is readily available in my state and it costs $64.99 per bottle. Ledaig 10 would have to be a lot better than Laphroaig 10 to make it worth the trouble and the increased cost. But I'll definitely have to try Ledaig 10 one of theses days!

When you go to Tobermory make sure you schedule time to have dinner at Mishdish. You won't regret it! Also, pick up a bottle of Ledaig 18-year; worth every penny, IMO. For me, Laphroig is a bit excessively phenolic, but the Ledaig hits the right balance for my palate. Slainte!

Laphroaig is way better than the Ledaig in my opinion. But still love Ledaig.

They are quite different. The Ledaig smoke is like smoked dried meat.nn. Laphroiag is like campfire smoke. I'd choose the Ledaig.

Ledaig was the first single malt that I bought 2 bottles. It is my favorite peated. However, Laphroaig QC was what made me fall in love with peat.

Ledaig 10 all day more flavour mouth feel and balanced Laphroaig 10 at 40% is mediocre whisky underneath the signature peat hit

4 or more years ago maybe some competition but what laphroaig has dun to their 10 year old especially in the last 2/3 years is criminal ! Its not the same malt and a side by side from 5 years ago would show how dramatic the changes the worsening is sad and typical when corporates take over .

Technically speak, I don't think Ledaig (Tobermory) is a highland scotch. I believe it's from the "Islands" region, ie, Arran, Mull, Skye.

You would think if something is poisonous you would want to know that 1st not last.

I just bought a Ledaig 10 today and the color of my bottle seems to be more of the light color instead of the dark-ish color of your bottle. I'm curious to know what would cause these differences. Could yours have a bit of a sherryy finish or something?

Ledaig is naturally coloured and non chill filtered according to the current distiller. The difference in colour is all down to the activity of the cask during maturation. If that is true then your Virgin oak theory is solid, at least some of them must be.
