Here I mainly show cameras that time forgot: those that are generally counted as 'obsolete' because of the smartphone and those that have fallen out of favor due to age and the fact that they "don't have a lot of megapixels". You may also find some how-to's and advice videos aimed at new photographers.

Hey Nate, glad you're back. At one point your channel got hacked. I hope everything is well now. The moment I saw that your channel is uploading clickbait fortnite videos I wrote your mail-provider and made a case with youtube so they freeze the account. I don't know if it helped or if you even realised it. Anyways - Glad that we can enjoy your videos again. Greetings.

I have had 5 of these over the past 5 or 6 years. There are two very common problems with the P880 - (1) Fungus! The front element is actually two pieces and the fungus gets in between them. Despite keeping my studio humidity low two of my cameras had fungus within a year of getting them used. You never know how the cameras have been treated in the past if you buy used. (2) The power switch can get spastic and not power on or off at times, sometimes just random while using it. A shot of good contact cleaner under the switch and working the switch with the battery out is all that is needed sometimes. A few years ago I shot a P880 alongside an Oly E-500 (Kodak sensor). The similarities of the output were so extremely close it surprised a lot of people. So, it's closer to a DSLR than you might think!

Speaking of knowing what APS-C is and is not. Primarily it is not a crop sensor. But putting the wrong lens on a APS-C you end of losing some of the image. That is your fault not the sensor’s error. So go out and buy over priced lens and putting on a camera with a APS-C camera. I use Fujifilm X cameras and you can only use lenses designed for the X mount which uses APS-C sensors. In short APS-C sensors are not cropped only your lack of knowledge is.

I have been on a bit of a Kodak buying spree, while older Canons and Nikons are getting more expensive, the Kodaks are still cheap. P712 was great also, P850 wasnt bad and can deliver nice results, Z812 and Z712 are cool also, I rather like the DX7590 too (5mp with a massive EVF and robust build), but the P880 is still my favourite!!!! TOP TIP when buying on ebay, many Kodaks are sold super cheap as "untested" because the seller has lost the battery and/or charger, all the P series and several DX cams use the same battery and charger and are interchangeable. Same with the Z series which use the 3.7v Klic 8000, I have never bought a Kodak untested that didnt work when I put a charged battery in it and some have cost under £10!!!! One of the great things about these old Kodaks (apart from the lovely image quaality) is that they all have an EVF viewfinder, sadly lacking on so many cameras now

I have the SD Quattro H and love it. While it might be fair to criticize this camera for all of it's shortcomings, of which there are many, the whole point of photography is the image. And this is where the Quattro really shines. My favorite lens for this camera is the Sigma 24-105 Art.

Sigma's Foveon cameras are so appealing in some ways, but in other ways they seem horrible. The images can be gorgeous but there are so many compromises that make it a hard sell. I Hope Sigma makes a camera with this tech that is a bit less strange someday, because they really have something amazing on their hands.

On the photoviewer in Windows 11, it does show the EXIF data in the (I)information menu. The image at 30:30 has color as I would expect from a Fuji Velvia or similar slide that was taken midday. One of the reasons these old cameras are getting a following is the color science in them was meant to be more film-like to entice people to switch to digital. With the AI-assisted resizing programs today, either in Photoshop & Lightroom or standalone like GigapixelAI, you can upsize these low MP images to some decent enlargements. But, most enthusiasts for these cameras will be probably showing most images on things like Instagram and such. I just picked one of these up at a local pawn shop for $18 just for grins. I used to do the same with cheap and toy cameras when I was shooting seriously with film "back in the day." To get back to the fun of it and play. It came with a Sony battery, charger, and a Kastar battery that yep. Fires up and then says, "Nope, you can't play with this one." Okay, I'm paraphrasing there. Thanks for showing some love for these old cameras and sharing them with the rest of us. Side note: Arnold looks so much like my cat, Nyxie. And I think we have the same printer. Obviously people of discerning tastes. LOL.

I have the Pentax SMC Takumar 28/3.5 (not the 2.8) and that is sharper across the frame (APS-C) than my copy of the Canon FDn 28/2.8 at all apertures. Might be a matter of QC, as you say, but I also heard that the f/3.5 Takumar wide angle primes are better than the f/2.8 versions.

You missed one fantastic point- which is why i still use this camera after over a decade. It has a screw mount which accepts OPTEKA brand adapter made specifically for the 8612. If you can find one- buy it! The adapter screws in perfectly and allows you to use any 58mm lens including macro, my favorite, and add polarizing lenses and other filters. It is a worthy and sturdy little camera which has lasted a LONG time. And while yes jpeg and 8 pixels are meh- it also has arty yum aspects. I won’t get rid of it and i paid full price New. Good review

Hi Donnie, I bought the same Sony S85 a couple of months ago. The original Sony battery was a bit tired... Decided to take the gamble and buy a couple of third party batteries. (Chili Power) While I get the warning that I do not use Sony batteries sometimes - and the camera shuts down automatically - I find that when I half press the shutter right after turning on the camera, it gives it something to do and I don't get the warning. Works just fine that way. Hope this helps you! Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 🤠 📸.

@@ericj.w.ruijssenaars3421 I ordered an aftermarket battery from Kapstar and it came in two days ago. Interestingly enough I received no DRM screen or anything of the sort. I always loved this camera back in the day and recently I have bought not one but two P880s on Ebay!!!! £20 and £22, both "untested" as they came with no charger, but I had one in the back of a drawer and both cameras work 100% fine. I have the Sigma version of that Quantary, the Sigma Super Wide II and it is an excellent lens with macro capabilites. I also have the Pentax lens but mine is the 28mm 3.5 which some say is a much better lens than the 28 2.8 . Mine is perfect wide open, although you loose an f stop, of course. By the way I use these lenses on a Fuji X-T2 along with a Canon nFD 50mm 1,4 (Really nice lens).

Getting a Quattro DP1 as a second camera. As much as the sd Quattro and the H sound nice, I already have a Fuji XH2, and with Fuji's already expensive ass lenses, I thought the best thing for me was to divert from the typical Fuji user buying an X100/XPro camera as a second camera and go with something way different.

A Sony Adapter Ring VAD-S70. It is made for an older camera, but that older camera has the same lens, so the part works. It lets you attach a filter or accessory lenses. It also protects the lens.

Hi, question about your recommendation at 5:33 for 85mm lens I have an APS-C camera (Sony ZV-E10), does this mean you would recommend an 85mm crop sensor lens (full frame equivalent of ~128mm)? Or does that mean you would recommend a 56mm lens (full frame equivalent of ~85mm)? Sorry if this was obvious, am new to photography and want to capture realistic pictures of my babies as memories 💞
@forgottencameras
@forgottencameras 8 месяцев назад
Hello! If you're on a crop sensor, each has its own merits. The 85mm lens is going to give you more 'reach', meaning you'll be able to be further away with the noisy, clicky box thing. You'll also get better subject separation (background/foreground blur-effect). Your depth of field (how much is actually in focus) is going to be narrower, so you'll want to stop the lens down a little bit, if not quite a bit--more than you would for a person, because cats are smaller subjects. The 56mm is going to be easier to handle and less expensive, while still giving extremely good results. It will be easier to get sharp shots because you aren't as far away, so if your cat isn't so shy, I'd go with that. I recommend the Sigma 56mm f1.4 for people with Sony and Canon crop-sensor mirrorless cameras any time I am selling one at the store. It shouldn't be crazy expensive on the used market, either. Alternatively, there are about a million 50mm f1.4 lenses you can go with. You'll get about a 75mm FF field of view, and they are super easy to find.
@ricemonsterr124
@ricemonsterr124 8 месяцев назад
Hi@@forgottencameras ! Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed answer. My cat is super chill whether I'm close to her or further back (and luckily this camera has silent shutter), so reach isn't a concern. So between the 50 and the 85, which one would you say best portrays a cat's proportions most accurately/true to life (i.e. the least perspective distortion)? It seems those two were the ones recommended in your video, but I assume those were recommended based on a FF body. I appreciate you providing budget-friendly recommendations, but money is no object in this situation: I don't know how long left I have with her, so I'm just trying to get on camera the same beauty as I see through my own eyes (or as close as humanly possible) before she's gone. This is silly, but I'm paranoid about looking back at these photos and remembering her incorrectly as too fat or too skinny. Your video has some great inspiration in it and I've rewatched it multiple times already :)
@forgottencameras
@forgottencameras 8 месяцев назад
@@ricemonsterr124 In that case, 85mm. When I do work that requires correct proportions, I shoot with a 70mm f2.8 macro, a lens designed for copy work. I actually use it for a lot, but it is really slow to focus. If money is no object, the Sony or Sigma 85mm f1.4 for e-mount is the rec. It is going to give true-to-life proportions, focus will be fast and accurate, and they are laser-sharp. Anything in the 70-90mm range is going to be proportionally accurate; going lower and you'll get some barrel distortion. With the 50mm, it is -almost- negligible when shooting people's faces (headshots). The nose might be a little exaggerated. In choosing an 85 for cats, keep in mind they are smaller than we are, so I would grab the one with the closest focusing distance. Also keep in mind that you're going to have to stop it down to f4 or f5.6 at least to get eyes, nose, and ears all in focus on a moderately close shot (moreso for a headshot), so if you end up with an 85mm f1.8, it's not a huge deal. ...which means lighting is going to be a big concern.

I loved this camera! It was nice and light. I could shove it into a bag and not worry too much about it. At the same time, I bought the Canon EOS 10D, which I loved as well. Between the two, I think I got more use out of the P880 because it was lighter and less awkward to tote around. I recently found my P880 hiding in a box with all of the accessories including the battery, charger, hood, cap and flash! I was never able to see photos from the P880 because of noise... so it was relegated to being the "fun" travel camera. The 10D was used for more serious use like larger prints, shooting commercially and creating photos for stock photography. but was a pain to carry around.

When I graduated from the S100 to an SLR I was thrilled by the rich color and detail and the ability to blur backgrounds, and never used the S100 again. Recently I reviewed my travel photos from those years and found many wonderful ones. You just carry that little camera around whether you intend to use it or not, and it is never intimidating to subjects or bystanders, so you get more natural photos of people. I wish I had been shooting raw in those days; I might have gotten more out of the images.

Is this one better than elph 360?
@forgottencameras
@forgottencameras 10 месяцев назад
Depends on who you are and what you are going for. The S100 has a larger sensor and lower resolution, meaning better low-light performance. It is geared toward manual control, and has a built-in ND filter. Basically for when you can't be bothered to bring an ILC, but want better image quality than a phone (at the time) and RAW support. If you don't know/don't care about any of that, get the Elph. I think if you are shooting video, the Elph is a better choice. Problem with the Elph is that it is too expensive for what it is. Better play is to save up for something more modern and more advanced, or look for an older used RX100 (mk II or III). Should be about the same price, but far superior.
