Those crosses are Celtic crosses. They were first used in early Christian Ireland ie 5th century, when there was only Christianity. It’s a design used by all Christian denominations.
Kev reckons the windmills can't be on if it's too windy. Maybe that's why? Also poo bum for having to backtrack and yay for beautiful warm and cheap airbnbs!
