Are my eyes playing tricks on me. Did Les just cop a verbal warning only. Not even 10 minutes in the bin. Should have been instant send off. Shame to the ref.
The Steve Bowden on Mark Broadhurst bashing in the 1981 Newtown/Manly final was far worse IMO. Only 2 years before the Boyd/Brohman incident here, so same era. But very different reactions from league followers and commentators. I won't go into it here, but that act of total thuggery continues to be virtually celebrated today. If happened on the street, jail time.
Boyd slightly unlucky here. I say slightly, because no denying it was absolutely reckless. But I seriously doubt he tried to break a jaw. There were plenty of elbows back in the day and they didn't all cause jaw breaks. It was the broken jaw that that did it for Boyd, & the circumstances, ie. huge tv coverage, state v state, Australian career ended. No break, no issue. I bet whatever jaw damage was caused by Boyd was amplified by Thomson (NSW 14) & Cornescu (Qld 12)
The "Do the Right Thing" ad, should still be showing, as there is so very much just thrown on our streets these days, is it that we didn't have drive through food outlets back then?????
I’m here to prove to my child that it was Michael Moschen who played with Jareth’s balls, not David Bowie. 😂 Does anyone remember when they were telemarketing the crystal ball with instruction book on how to do this in the 80’s?
Stupid Australian commentator. It was just a push. He sneaked up behind the guy like a little coward and then thumped him in the back of the head. Commentators should lose their jobs but of course the Australian public probably applauded them
A coward that couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag, yet is described as 'tough' by some simple minded commentators like Andrew Voss - High tackles, late high tackles, knees, elbows, head-butts and a possible eye gouge or two? That's usually known as cowardice not toughness. He was a cat when he played...now he's just a fat cat.
I know it's probably not a recorded stat as such but I wonder how many defenders MB has beaten in his career. Arguably more than any other player in the history of the game.
