I'm going to be getting back into BJJ soon and I've forgotten virtually everything. Your tutorials are fantastic refreshers, I'll be able to go back into class with some basic knowledge.
It's not shown here, but a hip throw can be executed through the use of timing. That requires the opponent to over or under do something. When the side clinch is on, they usually do. Otherwise, yes, you would be correct. Forcing the throw can lead to problems.
I have been binging your videos and must say it is a pleasant surprise seeing real self defence scenario jiu jitsu online. Reminds me of our gym! We train down in Southend, UK and I just injured my ankle + got my blue belt from Royce during his seminar at our gym so your videos are really helpful. Keep up the great work
Glad you are enjoying and positive vibes for a quick recovery. Royce was among my earliest mentors and I’ll be forever grateful for the lessons he shared
I've been landing this fairly consistently the last year or so. It's a great big guy technique. This and the Tootsie roll. Such a shame there was never more to this series because honestly us Heavy's and Ultra's are much neglected in BJJ. Lots of videos on how to beat us hardly anything on how to help us. Especially against faster and more athletic guys.
I disagree with only one thing you said. "you're not ready for that yet" does not necessarily mean I don't know the answer. It means I don't think a 3 month white belt needs to be learning heel hooks yet...lol
At my gym at the rate I’m going it’s going to take 40 years to get a black belt. I’ve been training there for 10 years, starting as a 3 stripe white belt. I’m now a 3 stripe blue belt. I train three times a week and have never taken any serious time off. I think I’m just really bad at this sport and I may have capped out my skill level. The lack of promotions has absolutely destroyed my self esteem while I’m constantly being told belts don’t mean anything. Now I tend to just go to open mats for a bit of exercise and to occasionally feel like a ninja. That’s the best I can do.
If you're having fun, just keep working hard and good things will come. The art really is so much bigger than a belt. I know that could be discouraging to hear, but this journey has made you a better version of yourself over the past 10 years. Keep pushing.
