Not sure exactly what you mean? I loosen my drag before cast so I can adjust where my lead is during the cast. I tighten my drag after I reel in slack and adjust my drag to an appropriate tension once the rod is in the holder. I try not to adjust my drag while fighting a fish, unless it’s obvious that my set drag is to light for the fish, but only a little at a time. When I’m done fishing, I do loosen my drag when storing my reels.
I eat roi pretty often and yeah I usually just eat the top loin. On a side note when cavy from morning tide fishing was in Indonesia the locals also told him to avoid eating rois too. I’ve always wondered if other places avoid eating rois too.
@@yea_i_podagee_so_whatnever looked too deep into it but the aussies love the coral trout but never really came across any of them saying anything about cig. Is it not as prominent in that area of the world?
Roi Sashimi is excellent Roi & Moi is my top 2 eating fish off the reef. I ate 3 rois within a 2 week period along with all the other fish I was eating. Don't believe the stigma try Roi atleast once in your life. Just fillet em and don't eat the head. When I cut my Roi fillets I cut the bottom half of the fillets off where they meet at the belly for extra insurance for sound mind.
Know everyone else already knows but I didn't. Gotta like that reflective tape man....Just didn't realize how important until I finally went fishing down there and went to the Big Island. Many thanks for the tip. Mahalo.
@@HiFishGear Not used to fishing in the dark in Alaska... Never couldn't see my rods. Lol... I am learning from you! P.s...I know Ice fishing happens in the dark winters. Just not for me. ;)
Fished Poipu Beach area for the first time yesterday. Wish I had watched this video prior to my trip. Lost a bunch of lures and caught nothing lol. I’ll be ready next time. Mahalo from California
On an earlier video you said you just can’t whip with a 12 foot rod. I understand there will be some that say otherwise but I’m really curious on the physics on why? I would appreciate your opinion please ?🙏🏻
You can whip with a 12’ rod, there are people that prefer the length for the distance casting and the ability to bring fish up when you’re on higher cliffs. Beginners might find a 12’ rod difficult because of the clearance needed when casting and the length does make it harder to give your lures or bubbles action on the retrieve. Also most 12’ whipping rods are either custom blanks you have to have wrapped or can be expensive.
I live in the sticks and work almost every day. Being able to order online and get it within 2 days is amazing! Driving to town for tackle can be a waste of a beautiful day! Mahalo!
If you’re getting into fishing, run the spinning set-up! It’s a great introduction and helps with the learning process: Casting, Baiting, Tying Rigs…. You’ll know when it’s time to add conventional set-ups to your arsenal.
Hui aloha braddah. My name is Pono from Hilo. I just wanted to pick ur brain and also ask for advice. I have and own ulua poles and reels. But I have a hard time casting conventional reels. I was wondering if I could do an ulua setup with a spinner reel and like a super heavy rod to handle those big 100+ LB uluas. I found a spinner reel. A Fin nor offshore 10500 or a Penn 10500 just looking for a rod that can handle that much weight and power. I want to do more slide bait action then bait casting or dunking. I really want to get into ulua fishing. Please any help or advice would be helpful and very much appreciated. Mahalo for ur time aloha
Before you go and dump more money into new spinning set-ups. I highly recommend taking some time to practice your casts with your Ulua Poles. You already have the gear for 100lbers, take the time to learn how to use them, before you take a step backwards.
@HiFishGear Mahalo braddah for the advice. I will definitely practice more with the conventional reels. But if I was to make a spinner setup what rod would you use. Mahalo again braddah
On windy days... do you switch up line? So for example instead of going whipping with 20lbs braid. Or you like switch up for 12 lbs mono? Or no matter just run'um? Mahalo 🤙🏾
If that’s what you got, it’ll work. There are probably some better rods that will work for whipping but at $60 retail, 2oz lure rating, it’ll get the job done.
