I watched this movie at 15. What got me was the line “ to understand that a little girl with more courage than she knew would find her prayers were answered. Can that not be called happiness?” This spoke to me deeply. It inspired me to go out into the world and live a notable story where I too can say that. That was almost 20 years ago now. I can say many of my prayers have been answered.😊
It feels a bit weird because I thought she had moved on with the chairman after tossing the handkerchief, but suddenly the story decides that she ends up with the chairman, which begs the question on why the cliff scene was needed in the first place? If it's to present her heartbreak than I'd be fine with that, but the quick transition to her happy ending feels too sudden and contradicts her throwing out the handkerchief But someone said that her letting go of the handkerchief equates to letting go of her childhood dream, and face him as woman now so yeah I'd like to believe that just to make the ending makes sense
Im that muthafuckah who loves war/rambo movies but when i was a lil kid I saw the black dvd boxes with a white geisha face on it everywhere. In the supermarker, warehouses it didnt matter. But i thought fck drama ion give a sht. But 2 weeks ago i saw it pop up in netflix and I always watch a dark movie so i can fall asleep while watching it. But bro.... I had to wake up at 6pm but as soon as I started watching i finished the whole movie, and before i knew it, it was already 3pm hahahaha. It's so deep this performance how Sayuri resignation for the rejecting to her dreamt love can become to be a closed jail...where there are no hope...how her destiny against her to get his more loved aim since was a child but she cannot have illusions because geishas has the love forbidden....It is one my favourite scenes from a film...Sayuri and her cruel destiny.

I always do wonder if her life with Nobu the chairman's friend would of actually been ok, he cared about her to a degree and I think he was well off despite his apperance, I wonder what the story would of been like then, im glad they end up finding each other but curious the story could of been super different almost a completely different movie lol
