4:41 Pig. This album was recorded in the Tate house, the location of the brutal murders by the Charles Manson “Family”. They wrote Pig in blood on the walls and door. Trent lived in the house and was abusing Heroine while recording. The darkest album ever.
This is like intrusive thoughts had a soundtrack. It lingers. Stays there and once you get it you will never be the same. That's why it's a masterpiece.
18:49 you said a lull at the beginning of the heartbreaker solo, what timing brother, you gots no idea what’s gettin ready to blippidy blop you in the FACE!
Also regarding the members, MA was born out of an artists' collective called The Wild Bunch (Geoff Barrow, funding member of Portishead, used to be there). Blue Lines had Robert del Naja, Daddy G, Mushroom and Tricky as the group's lineup, over the years some members left and others came in, but del Naja is a constant followed by Daddy G - also many guest vocalists as you said. This album is a classic for sure, but I agree the best part is the run from the title track to Unfinished Sympathy. Finally, you should listen to Portishead's Third from 2008, it's more representative of their overall sound I think.
Nice! Would love if you'd listen to their next album, Protection, historically underrated imo. You won't regret it! Their discog became a little more irregular after Mezzanine I think, although from their newer stuff I'd recommend The Spoils single and the ep Ritual Spirit.
Loft music is my fave on HOB and for Thursday is the birds part 2 and EOS is xo/the host! My listing 4 HOB: (nobody asked for 🌚) 9- high for this 8- what u need 7- coming down 6- wicked games 5- the party & the after party 4- the morning 3- HOB/ glass table girls 2- the knowing 1- loft music (All of the tracks are a 10/10 for me tho!)
This is an amazing album. They wouldn’t have gotten here without the work that they did on HTE and guitar songs. Billie’s voice has never sounded better and Finneas really deserves his flowers for the orchestration and production. The melody of the strings in the beginning is woven through the album to the end (The Greatest and Blue).
Track 3 is written in Rock N Roll chords in the classic style, as well as the rhythm and key signatures. It's classical rock and roll but embellished with what only Zep can do. This is still my favorite band. This album was released when I was 11 yrs old. It was everywhere for a long time.
I don't know why it would be different for a band in the 60s? This kid really doesn't have a clue, if you didn't have an album you had no way of getting on the radio so nobody would know who you were radio stations one of the songs to be 2 minutes long
incredible album. i live close to where they tagged sweet trip in the wet sidewalk. went there the other day. cool reaction vid. subscribed. keep lovin music ❤
I had same feedback when i hear the album for the first time, after checking other music from other artist/bands/musicians then months later i decided revisiting it and understand how influencial it is (probably more influencial than sgt peppers that get released in the same year)especially in 1967, the velvet underground and the beatles are 2 of most important musician ever
Only in Dreams is what ties everything together on this album for me. I like every song but the melancholy buildup outro will always be my achilles heal. This song sounds like a band you may want to check out called Built to Spill.
When you mentioned the songs being straight to the point, I think that is very in line with Brian Wilson's personality. Although he was trying to innovate, he was totally unpretentious.
Every song on this album is perfect.. it was the first time I ever understood someone say "An album with no skips" cause it would be this one!!! Love love love love loveeeee them so much words cannot even describe
100% one of the best mixes ever done to an album the producer Flood along with Trent created a primal hypnotic landscape that pulls your guts and tickles your brain . Not to mention it was recorded at 10050 Cielo Drive literally in the same house / crime scene where the Manson murders occurred and they wrote in blood “PIG”.
I think she doesn't need to add a little "grit" to make you connect, the music is just not at all for you. You didn't seem to be in a mood to listen to this whatsoever
this was more attention grabbing than most music reviews, and the cutting up the songs feels less like youre just doing it for the sake of copyright. Props
brother man if you liked Unfinished Sympathy's cinematic orchestra touch and the name Moby doesn't ring a bell then I've just unlocked a new door for ya
