I'll remember. The MZ motorcycles could be ordered in west Germany for 1000.- West Marks out of the Quelle Catalog. The opponent Neckerman offered the Marelli. I never had one, I went with the Japanese 350 T-wins. But I remember the MZ of some friends, regardless of the price TAG in W-Germany, it was a great motorcycle. At least the ones they delivered into the west. The ones that was sold to the socialistic brotherhood had big problems. The Yugoslavians didn't even wanna put it in front of their stores and went with Puch and Zastava. Parts for the MZ were always a big problem. It was the right Bike at the wrong time in the west. I don't really know how it was in the east. But a wonderful example of German Engineering. Can someone imagine what they could do today if they would be not deliverable destroyed in favor of BMW? The BMW's never build this small bikes (R 27 was endet in 1967) but BMW feared MZ could become a competitor in the near future (and they would have).
I live in Denmark. When I was younger and started riding motorcycles, back in the mid-80s, these bikes were considered workhorses. To some ridiculous to others reliable. I never thought much of or about MZs having had 10 or 15 Japanese bikes (350 to 1000cc, 2 and 4 stroke). Some ten years ago I needed a cheap and reliable bike and bought an ETZ 250 with a 301 engine. I like it now. It's no good for high speed motorways, but other than that it will do anything you ask. And do it well. By now I consider myself the proud custodian of a great piece of mechanical and industrial history. The basis for these bikes was actually the old DKW models.
Puch... in Yugoslavia? HA. Zastava bikes? HA 2x. You know they made cars, vans and small trucks only? The most popular brands of bikes in Yugoslavia were “TOMOS” bikes, little 2 stroke 50cc bikes and mopeds. a small portion of bikes were imported, mostly Eastern Bloc bikes due to the price, since western bikes were too expensive for anyone. But our market was dominated by our own brand, what I believe was licensed by Puch or some other company. There were other Yugoslav companies building motorcycles, but Tomos went on mass producing bikes first.

I had the Simpson 50 in 1978. Then mz TS250 show 5 and he 150.I loved their simplicity and at the time the cost.The mz50 was 300 quid new, the mz250 i toured all over the UK what days.Disabled now so just memories great video thanks
In meiner Jugend vor fast 40 Jahren waren Honda und Co meine Favoriten, MZ gab es nur im Neckermannkatalog. "Wer kauft diese hässlichen Motorräder..." so meine Gedanken damals. Wie sich alles ändert: Heute sind die Ost-Mopeds meine Motorräder. Nichts anderes! Rader mit Speichen, Trommelbremsen, Butterdeckel aus Metall und Zweitakt. Ich liebe es!
Nagyon jól vezetsz, élmény nézni és hallgatni, csak lefele menet hosszabb ereszkedéskor ne motorfékezz, hanem húzd be a kuplungot és öblögesd, mert pláne ha csumázod neki, megragadhat ha elveszed a gázzal együtt az olajat is tőle, visszagangolásnál meg gázfröccsel segíts rá a finomabb visszaváltásra :)
