In case anyone is interested, the rear is an MP-78 rear built by Pontiac. It had 3 different generations. 65-70, 71-76 and 77-82. These were mainly used in full size GM cars. It has a 12 bolt carrier and the posi was made by Eaton. 65-76 had 31 spline axles while the 77-82 were 28 spline. There is 0 aftermarket support for these. I think gear ratios maxed out at 3.42 and there was a place in Texas that was making 3.55 gears for them but they fit the 2 series carrier. These were used in the 2+2 Pontiacs in the 60s which were Pontiac’s full size performance cars. The only other performance car I’ve ever seen one in was a 73 Buick Grand Sport that was a factory Stage 1 455 with a 4 speed manual. I only know this because I have one in a 75 Pontiac Grand Prix that my brother rebuilt from a 2.56 open to a 3.23 posi and it took me a couple years to find the carrier and gears. These are strong rears but they don’t fit many performance cars. I seem to remember there were a lot of Ford parts in the rebuild kit. They do bear a striking resemblance to Ford’s 8.8.
@@ReverseGear hahaha nah i'm sorry dude i say that in jest, you go through like 50 fast-paced videos on this app and the slowest of the bunch trips you up xD
There was a lot of squeeking but its the rubber not a voice. I didnt care a bit. Dont overwork yourself. I pray you get rest and find a healthy balance. Cheers.
Or, you can cut it without thinking about actually putting it in later and then struggle to compress it and line the thing up like a true dumbass such as myself
That's real close. If your plan is to just bolt it up, its not going to work. But if your plan is to tig weld some bushings in to thread and hold yhoste screws and then tog weld a couple of bushings in to hold the starter, then cut the side out so the starter clears and weld in a new piece (maybe you could salvage a piece from SBF tranny?) It might just work. It would be wet to put a 6 speed on my Cleveland. I wonder if there's enough room to just mount a modular starter where it goes on the modular engine and if the ring gear is the same diameter.
Just run an old battery cable instead. It took 2 extra grounds to fix my car. There's one directly to the alternator mount. I think that's the one that fixed my problem. The other one was replacing the battery thin body ground. With a battery cable, too. Pinto rule!
This is the worst video I’ve ever seen these guys like doesn’t say a fucking word it just goes from one thing the only thing to the next thing doesn’t explain anything with the f wrong with you dude do you not know how to talk
Thank you for this video. Currently replacing the water pump on my Mercury Marauder 429 Cobra Jet. I believe it’s the same block as your 460. I was just about to install my new water pump when I saw your video. When you removed the timing cover, did you have to drop the oil pan?
I cant find anywhere that has a replacement just like this. Do you think you can help me with a suggestion? I appreciate the video so much. Mine is just dangling there.
I put my vacuum gauge on a tee piece that goes beteween the carb vacuum advance can and the carb but it makes no vacuum at idle only some when revved up.
My Crown Vic was parked for over a year at a maintenance yard and mice damaged some of the wiring under the hood. I've got most of it repaired but headlights surge and it will misfire once it warms up. Frustrating, so I'll be checking grounds. Then look for possible wire that's shorting out. It was an auction that I paid $350 so I knew there would be issues
