Top Gear showed me this song, and I've loved it for a decade and more. That music video is absolutely beautiful. To see my home area represented so artistically, yet so realistically, touches me. It's my own little Déz Vu experience, driving in a car, with this on, driving past Saddleworth or on the country roads between East Lancashire and West Yorkshire, to Todmorden, or to Burnley, or to Colne.
At least Warren Smith (the drummer) never let him down. They were childhood friends. Smith was on his side even in the darkest moments. That's the type of relationship that keeps you going .
I am the girl who hooky speaks to who didnt know who he was 🤣🤦♀️ i had heard of joy division but didnt know the members. He was really lovely and we chatted afterwards and he got us into the music venue for free as we helped him carry some equipment downstairs haha. Its funny reading these comments about 21 year old me 😂😂
That's awesome! It's surprising that back then you had only heard of the band. I'm Brazilian and by the time I was 21, I already knew a lot about Joy Division. They are quite well-known here. Did you not like rock much at the time, or did the band not have the same fame back then? Or are there so many good bands in Manchester and England that Joy Division got lost among them all? Haha
I was into my music, but it was more small bands that I was listening to at that age. I wish I had known more back then and not been as clueless but it was so fun meeting him and finding out he was in a band that I'd heard about but not realised he was in it xx
It's 2am so I just stopped the music I'm still swaying like I was on a cruise ship Took the words straight out of my mouth Come on everybody back to my house Take my hand now, you're coming over It doesn't matter you can sleep on my sofa Bring some fags and brings some Rizlas We're gonna party like it's nobody's business Let your hair down now It's the end of the week And this is our time now Let's forget everything And put your glad-rags on Dressing up like we're queens of the night And we just wanna dance the night away We don't give a damn what people say We've had enough so turn it up Tonight we're taking over And we will all drink 'til we lose our minds Wanna lose sense of space and time We're going through, it's how we do Tonight we're taking over I feel fly I'm rockin' Kenzo I'll get high but I ain't doin' benzos I might dance like your auntie I don't care 'cause we're here to party I got a quite good record collection Yeah I got everything that came out on Def Jam I've got hip-hop, I've got dub step I'll take us right through from sunrise to sunset Let your hair down now It's the end of the week And this is our time now Let's forget everything And put your glad-rags on Dressing up like we're queens of the night And we just wanna dance the night away We don't give a damn what people say We've had enough so turn it up Tonight we're taking over And we will all drink 'til we lose our minds Wanna lose sense of space and time We're going through, it's how we do Tonight we're taking over Drink a little more Dance a little harder Shout a little louder if you like Move a little faster Stand a little taller Do whatever makes you feel alright Drink a little more Dance a little harder Shout a little louder if you like Move a little faster Stand a little taller Do whatever makes you feel alright Go harder Go harder now Go harder Go harder now And we just wanna dance the night away We don't give a damn what people say We've had enough so turn it up Tonight we're taking over And we will all drink 'til we lose our minds Wanna lose sense of space and time We're going through, it's how we do Tonight we're taking over (go harder) And we just wanna dance the night away We don't give a damn what people say We've had enough so turn it up Tonight we're taking over (go harder) And we will all drink 'til we lose our minds Wanna lose sense of space and time We're going through, it's how we do Tonight we're taking over
It is interesting how Adam Ant has, in a way, followed my own life path. He was my first teen idol and mimicking him in our Adam and the Ants playback band in my first middle school years was in fact my own first experience with a stage. It got to love me two things: singing my ass off on the songs that I love in front of people and not giving a rats ass about it how they thought/think about me. Second, it was my first experience with an artist writing his own songs, and although I finally got to write my own songs since 2018, I claim Adam Ant for giving me the first goosebumps to try it. Now for the life path which we inconsciously followed both: it was some five years after my own bipolar diagnosis that I learnt he had gone through this too, and now that I see him again, he, same as I, got to value it as a valuable life experience. Artistic people like he and I have to go through deep paths sometimes to deliver songs.....but it is a path that I would never, never want to be anything else. Thank you very much for those lessons , Adam aka Stuart Goddard.
