This is the official vlog of ceramic artist & Hobby Potter Tammy Jo Schoppet started in 2011! You'll find lots of adventures throughout the years and
"Perfectly Imperfect and have fun all the way" I enjoy pottery making/ceramics and appreciate all constructive instruction. If you see me doing something that could be done easier or better please feel free to share your knowledge...I'm always open!
Since finishing my 365-Day project, I've been continuing my skills and sharing my random projects & journey with you! Hope you enjoy!!
It's true. Reclaim is just the process of making dry raw clay workable again. When raw clay is fired, it undergoes a chemical change and the materials sinter, making them harden in a way that is irreversible (basically after firing it is no longer clay but a different chemical makeup. It can be ground down to a fine powder and added to clay, which is like sand and that is called "grog". Hope this helps :D
Awesome experiment! Thank you for sharing. How much of which oxide did you add to glaze to get that beautiful green color pls? I’d love to experiment in cone 10 reduction firing of waxy white 😃
Oh dear, I will have to look! I know the stain was Spectrum and the color was Chartreuse . If you contact Clay-Mix.com, they have on file the glaze recipe (and will mix it for you) of Waxy White! Oh many ...wish I would have read this last week I could have tested it! They are doing a cone 10 reduction firing I'm participating in (first time) and I already dropped off my pieces. Let me know how your test goes 😀
Thanks for your question! It is a store in Fresno, California called "Clay Mix" ( clay-mix.com ). They create it in powder form and send it to me...I just add water and mix! You can order I ordered about 10lbs of powder and they shipped it in a priority mail flat rate box. My Venus clay likes this glaze I am now firing it to cone 6 with a fast ramp up and slow cool. (Here is the RU-vid video I used to program the firing cycle if you need it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NtgaQgNS8sk.html&ab_channel=OutpostPottery . This is probably more than you were looking for, but hope it helps!
Hi there! I had that happen when I changed stoneware glazes. Underglaze pencils will come out somewhat faded. I now use underglaze in a find liner and this changed EVERYTHING when making fine lines.
Hey thanks for the review! I want to buy one of these for my girlfriend. Ehat do you suggest the 3 leg version eith external pedal or these ones with handle and pedal integrated?
I'll tell ya, I think the unattached foot pedal is a lot more comfortable, convenient and less restrictive because you can move the control where it is most comfortable. The handle (for me) interrupts my throwing because I adjust speed as I'm pulling up sometimes. The pedal on this whee is attached to the base and resting your foot on it topples it a bit. I also had tested a 3 footed wheel, and actually fried the motor after the 2nd throw by putting 10 pounds on it (my bad)...even though it worked on this wheel, I wouldn't recommend that kind of weight. These wheels are short, so she may want to use cinder blocks to raise them for her chair. Probably more infor than what you were looking for, but maybe it will help! :D
Thank you so much! These were fired to cone 04, the underglaze deepens at higher temperatures... I was hoping for the brither colors at lower temperatures :D
Love your video. You are so personable and talented. No music please. When music is playing on instructional videos, I just mute and read captions. Then I miss something.
I have several struggles. Number one at the moment is financial. Trying to make it cost less to make pottery so I make a profit. So im building a shed studio in my yard so I dont have to pay rent for a studio. Also I pay for kiln space now but that's ending in a month so I'll be using my own kiln and so that is a stuggle getting the kiln up and running and firing to cone 6. Its an old kiln so its really tough because it doesnt even have a sitter.
Does the shrinkage rate change within the same clay body depending on the batch? For example, I bought a clay body from Laguna clay and it has a shrinkate rate of 10% +/- 2%. After using the clay, I discovered it has a shrinkage rate of 12%. If I buy a new bag of this same clay body from Laguna, will it always have a 12% shrinkage rate or could the next bag have a 8% shrinkage rate? Thank you so much for all your lovely videos.
Thank you for the encouragement on the videos! It is my underestimate that they should be generally the same, unless the manufacturer changes some aspect of their clay recipe 😊 I recently purchased a clay body that suddenly started crazing with a certain clear I've always used with it. My only guess is something changed in the clay because the clay and firing didn't change, only the bags of clay.
Yes! The black porcelain is black clay. If you look at the round sample in the video and also the color samples shown on the black disc in the video you'll be able to see how the underglaze colors showed up on the black clay :D !
Thank you Michelle, Yes, this clay has been tested for vitrification (using the boil test shown in a past video). I may need to retest though as I'm finding the current version of the same clay works differently with me clear glaze. I'm wondering if the formula/recipe of clay changed after by the manufacturer post COVID. 🤔hmmm
Beautiful pieces! Just wanted to clarify ... you fired the glass on greenware dishes and not bisqueware? I wanted to try firing marbles in a greenware dish instead of bisque firing it first and I'm looking for info about that.
Hmmm, I've never tried it on greenware because I was concerned about the water evaporating from the clay and also cracking off the piece from the melted glass since it's not a stable form (bisqued). You can always try it! 😉 But be sure to fire it small and sitting in a safe dish to peirce your kiln ...just in case!
Bought the 36cm last month because it had a lot of good reviews. Unfortunately, the wheel head is off-centered and wobbling. VEVOR's customer service is the worst I have ever encountered. Their website says 30-day no-hassle returns, but getting a new wheel has been the biggest hassle ever! Their first reply was for me to wait 3 weeks for a repair kit so that I could fix it myself. We've gone back and forth several times and each time they refuse to let me return the wheel - they keep upping the incentive to keep it. So far they're giving me $125 to keep it. Does anyone know how to fix it? I have no idea and now I'm stuck with an off-centered pottery wheel.
Given that it both off-center and wobbling there might be too much room for movement for the shaft that leads to the wheelhead. Perhaps see about removing the wheelhead and take a look while the machine is running
Yes and thank you!! Nothing like a good purge to prepare one for a new year!!! 😁 How you have enjoyed you Christmas 🎄 and sending blessings for the new year!
