From the cruising to racing, follow The Sailing Frenchman around the globe. My name is Hugo Picard, in 2017, I quit my land job to refit my 50 yo boat and sail across the Atlantic. I love cruising, but I felt I needed more, so focused my efforts into getting on the offshore racing scene. So 2 years later, I was recruited by the Clipper Round the World Race to be first mate on one of the eleven 70ft race boats to sail around the world. Unfortunately, COVID suspended the race 2/3 around the world and while my team was 2nd overall... But us sailors have to adapt, so I moved onto an old dream I had, race the Mini Transat. It's a single handed race across the Atlantic on powerfull 6.50 meters boats, build for offshore and high speed crossings.
I love to hear the French language when I recognise a word spoken in French conversation and confirm it by the subtitle " I am how you say super appy!!" Please continue to include the French language.

good for you guys. I hope you enjoyed yourselves. Seems like a lot of fun but for me I just think it’s really reckless not to have some form of satellite communication.
On your ~1 ton boat, have you tried motoring into headwinds with the epropulsion? At 100% power, can it overcome 10 knot headwinds? 15 knot headwinds? 20 knot headwinds? My only concern about getting one of these is if winds are blowing straight out of a harbor and I have to motor into harbor for 10 minutes, overcoming up to 20 knots. I don't care if it would be slow, but could it overcome 20 knot winds upwind at 100% power for let's say 20 minutes if the battery is ~80% charged?
Frenchman it was sad you cover with the Genoa when you take out either, first the tak line, or the head line of the spinnaker. There is not videos in Mini transat 6.50 showing Best practice in this operation. I guess I will never know if no one candid person make the comentar with the best practice procedure! 😢
WOW!!! What an adventure!!! I don't sail so no idea what this would be like. I had no idea there could be no wind in the middle of the ocean!!! Finding out about covid when you hit land must have been so weird!! Cuz it was weird for all of us. Glad all went well for you. You & your father must be brave souls!!! reality check for me is that the first time I 39 months of college was in a high stress class I had a job interview with an assistant manager at the company that was in the same company that was working at and they had to do the job and they had a lot more work to get me a new position so they had a good time with the job I had to go back and get a good working relationship and then they were able and they had the same experience as I had in my position so they didn’t really get the same thing but they had a bad relationship with the job so they had the job but I had a good job but they had the best relationship and they had to go through it go to work on my job so they didn’t get the same thing with me I had to do it all over the last let’s go back in a good relationship 6:47

4:55 no. no way. i would freak out. basically no horizon, water for hundreds of of kilometers in every direction, 5 kilometers of water under me, complete silence, no movement, only a few square meters of boat surface to exist on, complete isolation, limited water and food, no. forget it. i would do an ocean crossing. but a dead calm like this would make me very, very irritated. if i had some pot to smoke , maybe. but still. this is intense.

Crazy that this series is coming to an end, have been watching for many years. Thanks for the episodes, I enjoyed each one of them and it made me go buy a sailboat myself
