Bye Bye Love was the Everlys' first hit, and Phil Everly said years later that if the song hadn't had Don Everly's intro, it might not have been a hit.
Cool. It is not an exaggeration to say that much of Keith Richards's career is based on his using Open G tuning. And Richards learned Open G from Don Everly.
You've got it wrong. The Everly's play the song in Open G tuning. The intro can only be played correctly in Open G. So put in some work and learn to play the song in Open G tuning--then it will sound like the Everly's version.
This lesson is geared toward beginner-intermediate students, and it matches what the Everly Brothers did live when playing in standard tuning. In the future, I might break down the Open G techniques, it definitely sounds cooler.

As a keyboard player I like how you made this work for guitar-acoustic nonetheless! A tip for the roll: immediately bar the second note and hold it there for the high note (at least this works on electric).
Judging by the positive response I’ve received for this video, I’d say that’s a you problem. It can be hard finding content that fits your level of experience and learning habits.
Great video. Is there a chance to know the names of the notes being played on a single string solo? my ability to play by ear is non existent I'm afraid.
Rob is a very gifted player, an excellent teacher and generous in the provision of great quality, free lesson videos. I have no patience, however, for beginner instruction.
Rob, you are the best guitar teacher I have come across. God has certainly given you a gift bro, and I’m thankful you are sharing it with the world! You have helped me so much. You are so appreciated. 🙏
Thank you so much for your comment, it will be the last thing I read before I go to bed, and it really made me feel great about how I spent my day. Enjoy your progress, I’ll keep the lessons coming! -Rob
Thank you for an excellent breakdown of this pretty song. Your singing - which is great - also makes the lesson more complete. If I may suggest any other additions it would be the mastery Paul showed of modulating keys: from Gmaj to Gmin (for the Bb chord) in the intro; then the F#m and B7 chords are a puzzle (could they be in the B Mixolydian key?); lastly the chorus appears to be in F Mixolydian (to accommodate the Eb note in the Cminor chord. You allude to the transition of keys at 15:46 where the clever use of the D7 chord as a pivot from the F to G key makes the transition smooth. Wow and Paul did'nt know music theory or have access to it? Thank you for the lesson
