Adding something to the guy that said about the extreme volcanism caused by a large impact. A low presence of craters indicates a young surface, especially when there's no atmosphere involved. So, either Dres had a huge atmosphere in the near past and mysteriously lost it, or, more likely, there was extreme volcanism.
I think, that due to the highlands being very randomly scattered and having a different color, we could theorize, that they might be the remains of the old crust. Of course, all of the old surface is pretty much gone, so there aren't any more craters in the highlands, than in the lowlands. Also, yes, as the top comment says, the lowlands are likelly made of basalt, that came from the mantle, assuming, that it was molten at the time. Possibly from Jool tides, but it's unlikelly. Maybe Dres was at some point a sixth moon of Jool, what would support the molten mantle and major impact theories. Dres was maybe hit by a big asteroid or comet passing Jool, or even (this is VERY far fetched) a small proto moon on an eliptical orbit. Safe to say, all that's just my smooth monkey brain trying to speculate something, that mskes sense. That's just a theory. A game theory.
Dres does not exist, it is a figment of your imagination and if it did exist which it does not it was destroyed by the mythical God know as Bob the destroyer
I gotta be real pimp I don’t think Duna is tectonically dead. Ike has to be pumping out some pretty powerful tidal heating effects given how large it is as compared to Duna, and that atmospheric pressure and temperature at the equator is well high enough to sustain exposed liquid water. Plus those bigass ice caps a good chunk above the freezing point of co2
well since this video was posted, Dres was given a ring system (similar to the real dwarf planet, Quaoar) in KSP2, and i feel that gives this theory more credibility, as ring systems usually form after collisions (It's thought Earth had rings for a time between the collision with Theia and the formation of the moon)
additionally, dres seems to have a straight line of lighter material along the equator, im assuming it's ejecta that was once in orbit, but eventually fell back to the surface. hell, dres may have a moon in a few hundred thousand years
Fun fact: I had actually designed a sixth rocket design and recorded it. However, I completely forgot to put it in during editing. You will never know what it was. This is likely the last time I try a video like this
The channel's on an indefinite hiatus whilst I work on other projects. It will come back at Some Point™. (Sorry to the person's comment I accidentally deleted, Theory of Eve is also on the backburner.)
