Hey Steve I highly recommend that you sleeve the hose end on the outside from the sun or you will be replacing that hose often. Sorry to hear that life has given you some shit sandwiches too it makes you appreciate the good times when you have them. Keep up the good work and God bless.
My daily is my late mums car for 26 years.1995 Suzuki Swift HB 4cyl 1.3 sohc 5pd ABS purple her name is Smudge 218km running strong. Fun to drive has some power!
I have the same machine. What is your process for oiling the saddle ways? Just brush oil on the underside? Or do you slide it off and re oil? How often?
Steve, are you really too busy to put on insect repellant? I don';t know how you are, but I get one bite and the itching drives me crazy for a week. I put on repellant every time I go outside.
Seeing the big horisontal saw is going to be a blast. Your girl has always been really supportive. You are taking things along that are needed in your world so keep on keeping on my friend. Take care eh.
It's running good. I've had one O2 sensor fail and that's it. Knowing everything I know now, I'd have just put a LS in it and saved money over building a 383 sbc.
Thanks for the video Just starting out with this type of thing and that Norton manual is invaluable to have found after watching your video Vintage machinery has a downloadable copy
Thomson shafting is material for linear guides / linear bearings. If you have the material you should already know this. It's probably R c 60 or so. Trying to cut it in a band saw or checking the surface with a file will likely ruin the shaft for use as a linear guide. Next time, pay attention to the material you select. Know what it is and what it's for.
I've been missing you these days without our regular Saturday visits my friend so I just meander around these older posts that are always a bunch of fun. Thanks again and I hope things slow down enough to see you on Saturday mornings Steve and coffee time. When Plasma torches came to be I wonder how much the accetylene manufactoys hurt from their sales going down, down, down. I just use it with my rosebud now. I have a new us postal story for you. I pour pure silver in my little forge where I use shot/grain for my casting materials. It (50) ounces left Montana and promptly dissapeared. After a long hunt and track they found it in Oslo- Norway. At least it is still in system but Vanderhoof BC Canada is a little bit different than Oslo. It is the first time I have had any troubles from your Postal Service.
It was nice seeing you at the Hot Rod Power Tour, thanks stopping and seeing if you could be any help when I was replacing my fuel pump at the speedway.
You can fix oil burners with a garden hose with a sprayer on mist. Get the engine up to operating temp and rev the engine up. Now slowly start spraying water do this for about 10 minutes. This cleans the carbon out of the ring lands and allows the oil control rings to work again.
The frame is strong enough, but the tongue is less than desirable. I would of put a A Frame built out of 1/4" channel. If you love your dog, keep her out of the shop while you're working
Just caught up with this series and I'm mighty impressed. I had a remodeling business for 20 years before retirement and put on 2 or 3 composite roofs, usually heavier architectural style. That was enough to convince me that hiring roofers made more sense and was usually less expensive for my customers. Even on my own house I just couldn't afford the time for DIY roofing. And, yes, I can attest to the inevitable rain anytime you cut a hole in a roof!!!!!
So, just discovered your channel yesterday & have been up all night watching the square body vids for tips (off duty, but i work overnights, so… 🤣)… Just recently picked up an ‘87 recently. Actually have an appointment at 8am this morning to replace the windshield & seal (wish i’d watched THAT vid last week… i’m sure there will be rust, but this place doesn’t do that kind of work)… anyway, I like the look of those headlights. What are they, how do you like them, and where can i find them?
Steve I always enjoy your segments, thanks for that what you give us to view . Someone once told me life can be heavy if you carry it all at once ; we do what we can and move forward
Thanks for making the video.... 1) Make sure your dog is out of the way - they have no eye protection..... 2) I make mine and turned the C channel facing outside. That gave me square sides on the inside and channel on the outside for the wiring - so if and when my wiring goes bad I can access it easy. 3) There are plans on the internet for 3500 5x10 utilitrailer. I use C-channel, bought a bigger axel etc. and used pressure treated 2x8 on the floor. End result is a beast that probably weighs close to 800lbs. - but I have hauled some pretty heavy stuff (probably a hair overweight considering I have no brakes on the axle - but I pull with a 1ton pickup) 4) I went with torsion axle. Note, to make the mounting brakets on the inside, you have to order them that way..... I made the mistake of assuming C-channels were 2" wide. Not sure why I did that. I had to adjust with custom mouting plate. That plate/mount is stupid heavy duty.
Core went out you say? Puked All over the interior you say? That sounds rough. Mine went out other day. Was a rear heater in a van though. Puked All over the interstate! I assume anyway... I didn't notice until I warped both heads and was coasting through construction praying for a lane to open up!
america's throwaway economy is so unsustainable, im very interested in techniques like this to salvage used parts. i want to develop a machine shop specializing in adding bearings to all the bearing-less aluminum overhead cam cylinder heads.
STEVE WHY IS THERE SUNLIGHT?!?! Attic work is after sun down only! Do you have those little frogs that climb glass too? We live in DE and find them on the sliding glass door to the deck after every rain.
