I started on a Honda Shadow (SSLLOOOOOOWWW) but it was SOOOO FUN out-growing that bike and learning to stop quickly, lean it hard, do little wheelies, ride in the rain, do burnouts, slides, etc...Slow bikes a super fun to learn in, and you can't really hurt yourself too bad in them. I think about this experience everyday, "if i didn't start in that bike, I would not be ready for my ZX9R"...AT ALL! The ZX9R is heavy with a longer wheel-base than most crotch-rockets. No ABS, No Traction Control, nothing. Carbureted engine (not smooth, very touchy throttle)...Took me a full year to stop feeling the butterflies with that thing...

Been riding a 2015 R3 for four years. It was a great bike all around and allowed me to learn a ton while growing riding skills. This weekend I'll be picking up a 2006 R1 Raven Edition. I'm making the jump because I feel like I've learned what I had to with my R3 and because this is my dream bike. Every inch of it is pure beauty. I don't care about going faster than I was on the R3. Hell, I'll probably miss the nimble little thing. But I'm aware of what I'm getting into and It's just a bike I want to grow in and be able to tour with. Acting like a maniac is not the point. Giving heart attacks to people doing their grocery is not the point. Losing the bike and a leg to a pothole is not the point. Getting girls is not the point... and let's be real, bikes only work on guys. There's actually a "scooter group" in my town. Kids with very recent and capable machines. They ride as if they had scooters (all packed up, no muffler and just revving through town). It's sad, because while they aren't killing themselves they're out being nuisance. I assume what they crave is attention, because they don't seem to go out in the country much. Other than that, I don't hear about that many sport bike crashes where I live so that's a good thing. Most riders are older dudes with cruisers / Harleys. Plates are still 2K tho

When she saw me she stopped in the middle of the road and I t boned her. Idk what else happened. I got knocked unconscious and taken to a hospital. I started on a Z400 and didn't ride dirtbikes as a kid. I got into riding because I saw a YT video during Covid and I said shittt this looks freakin awesome :-) I had that 400 for over a year and I learned a lot on it. Then it got totaled because another guy on a GSXR decided to run into the back of me in the twisties. Anyways I upgraded and I got an MT-09 SP. Your right there are levels to this riding shit. The 400 is nothing compared to an MT-09. I think trackdays have helped with the transition from the 400. Its all helped with controlling the bike as well as controlling your throttle. Its made me be smoother overall. Im right there with you there been too many rider deaths, whether it be them at fault or some dubass driver. I get it its fun going fast and all that but there's a time and a place.... IDK man some people just need that adrenaline rush and it just takes over. Why cant we just ride normally? i found out about all the biker youtubers (other than DoItWithDan era bikers) after i bought a bike, bought it bc my dad had a CBR and i was allll about bikes since. unfortunately... getting into the bike scene, making friends with bikes and whatnot showed me the dark side of things. People lose their life, lose limbs, lose the ability to think for themselves. Its a machine of chaos, if a fire fighter doesnt do hours of rigorous fire training what do you think will happen in a real fire?? Seat time is huge, understanding the commonalities of cars and other things on the road. I’ll give it to u yes u have a point new riders on a 600-1000cc being ignorant and just new on a sports bike dying. And yes there is levels. But not only is it that just because u have some skill of riding. And have skill doesn’t always add up to dying. Shooting a gap at 120+ and then another car merging into ur lane and then boom u dead. Accidents happen it’s not just having “skill” I don’t think it’s kids wanting to go out and go fast because of other people and like I said just because u have years of experience and a ton of skill and knowledge doesn’t mean ur invincible. I mean no hate or anything by my comment bro I’m just giving my 2 cents. On ur take on new riders dying.
@wishesm3
@wishesm3 4 дня назад
I completely agree, reckless riding anything can happen. Your point is valid my main point was younger people dying from lack of experience. I’m fully aware I can die any day in my bike just from being unlucky or making a careless mistake but I believe having seat time reduces those chances drastically

Youre speaking the truth. Take the steps or respect the power of a motorcycle. Social media has for sure made the most impact on doing crazy stuff. If you are riding on the street you should be riding less than 50% of your ability, so there is room for when something unexpected happens. Those things still happen and people riding beyond their skill get killed.

A lot of what you said about people skipping steps is also because of the America motorcycle system, everywhere else in the world there's progressive licenses where you are literally forced to start on a 125. I think crashing on a 125 is less devastating and gives you that reality check where you get to see you're not invincible without straight up throwing your life away.
@2JZDestroyer
@2JZDestroyer 5 дней назад
same with cars, a good buddy of mine started out with a v6 charger(powerful enough to get in trouble, but nowhere near as dangerous as some of the other chargers). after a promotion at work and some training on AC(god has he improved), he decided to get a Scat pack, having started with an X308 XJ(V8, plenty of power for a noob with a world beating suspension setup) and currently driving an SL500(decent power, but aggressive traction control; it won't let you lose traction in the rain; aggressively cuts engine power). My first warning to him was about tire specs , as in do not ignore tire speed ratings(I.E Y rated tires are capable of 186+mph , so they're even better at keeping you shiny side up at 60mph in the rain than anything of a lower rating). He learned the hard way by spinning in the rain, no damage to the car or himself; but the next week he had purchased Y rated tires and booked a autox event. I can't stress the value of training enough.
