I am 65. Hindsight has proven that grades 1-8 and then HS 9-12 are a Complete Waste of Time. Students know this. Schools are basically a jobs program to keep the huge money flowing to themselves. The ONLY thing that I have ever used from HS is Drivers Ed.
In 30 years of teaching, I had ONE Father say, " if my Son is acting up in your class, He will not play football or basketball or any other sports UNTIL he improves……. Bad grades or bad behavior….either one is unacceptable……I was stunned. The man came from work (dirty clothes, looked worn out) but insisted his Son be respectful to all adults…… our world would be much different if this was the norm…. SO HAPPY I’M RETIRED
Just a FYI. As an older man I can say now that the best teacher I had, was a retired Army drill sergeant, different times of course. Excellence was expected and he was respected by all.
@@TeacherKellyTag I remember my middle school days. We were sometimes called the Byron Brats. Byron was the name of the school. The students were awful. However, I remember one exception who really was always nice, and you probably saw him. A guy named Peter Ostrum. You might know him as "Charlie" in Disney's movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". He really was nice.
Would you say that a lack of mental healthcare resources for teenagers could also be a contributing factor to this unbearable middle school atmosphere?
@@TeacherKellyTag glad you’re in a better place now. I remember middle school being a nightmare when I was a student. It’s such an awkward time in life where you want to be treated like an adult and are trying to embrace your individuality, but still haven’t reached that level of maturity. I plan to share my experiences and mistakes with my son when he starts middle school - hopefully he’ll learn from them and have a better time than I did.
The 13th Amendment is not talking about middle school children. Each parent can decide for themselves to homeschool or send to private school. Schools are run at the local level so join the school board if you don’t like the way they’re run
It’s talking about involuntary servitude and it includes middle school students as well as all human beings. Stop making excuses. They do not exist to serve you. Schools are fine on a voluntary basis but once they are made compulsory you are treating them as property to serve your needs.
@@johnliberty3647 that’s not what that amendment is talking about. If you truly think it is take it to the Supreme Court. That’s who upholds the constitution
@@TeacherKellyTag and schools have to deal with the kids they get so it is like everything else … fix the roots of the problems. Parents teach kids and the schools should be to educate only not babysitters and holding tanks for unruly young humans
If kids were sent home and schools were only there to educate the parents would have to step it up or take care of their own kids until they can behave . So many rules make it impossible to control some kids and some kids know it and seem to enjoy being in control
Common sense dictates that if you have a classroom full of 13 year old, there's going to be problems. Thankfully I'm now teaching exclusively online one on one here in Spain. The pay isn't great but I don't have to leave my home anymore.
I went to high school from 1981 to 1985. Teachers could give you detention for any inappropriate behavior Even if you were late to class. The head of JROTC stood behind us at detention You had to sit still for 45 minutes You could not sleep eat chew gum talk look around the room write do homework If he caught you doing any of those things, and he always did, you were told to leave That meant you had 2 days of detention If you acquired 10 days detention you were suspended The teachers enjoyed teaching us. We behaved Go figure
@@TeacherKellyTag All across America , parents are outraged by what public schools are teaching ! Local , county , state and federal governments are just a cesspool of human (ungodly) iniquity !
@@davidtomlinson2239 all education is at the local level. That’s why Trump wants to get rid of the department of education. So what they’re teaching in CA is not the same as what they’re teaching in FL, VA, AL. So you can’t paint them all with the same brush. Get involved in your local school board if you want change.
You may hate the truth, but it all started when the white kids began thinking it was cool to act like the black kids. It's not the main reason, but it's a big one.
@@TeacherKellyTag yep, so many mishandlings of very eazily dealt with things too... for instance as a student i got accused of some pretty horrible things by other students and the school did nothing about it
detention should consist of consist of picking up trash on the school grounds, cleaning bathrooms, etc. Just putting them in a room doesn’t do the trick
They need to send these problem kids for a “scared straight” prison visit and bring back reform schools. That’s where these juvenile delinquents belong. They’re ruining it for all the other kids.
@@TeacherKellyTag Oh I see now, sorry about that. I assumed that you took time off to get by during that transaction. I am aware alot of women teachers are not as conscripted to employment as there male counter parts. Was it really that bad or was it due to being not conscripted? It just seems like women have many more options and are able to walk away from bad experiences than men.
@@TeacherKellyTag I can imagine , I understand that the parents are not caring about raising decent human beings. I truly believe that is the most overlooked issue in the United States. I feel good that the parents of minors that are unethical are now being held accountable. IE parents that are responsible for school shooters are now being looked at. I just want to see the media bring more awareness when updating us on crime reports instead of blaming community leaders and police officers.
I have co worker who's wife was fired for jokingly saying she was gonna jack one of her bad students up lol. I know his wife and she wouldn't hurt a fly.
I applaud teachers!! With that said, sadly, it's bad parenting. I held my daughter accountable for bad behavior. Too many parents do not. And fyi, bad parenting knows no skin color, no political affiliation, no gender, etc. I am over 50 and I have seen bad parents from all walks of life, from both women and men, from both sides of the political aisle, etc.
Thank you and totally agree with everything you said. So many in my comments are making it about race, gender, and political party. A bad parent is a bad parent.
Wonderful video. Completely accurate. Teachers, especially middle schoolers, are grossly underpaid and under appreciated. Good for you for getting out and finding a better position! 💪👏
I was a sub for years. Afterwards, I told friends that if they had children in that age range I recommended home schooling them . Also, it was sad to see how affluent members of the community got their kids in the 1-2 middle schools where disciline was enforced.
It would be great if they made a Harry Potter invisible cloak for parents…let the parents see for themselves what goes on in your typical “ gladiator “ middle school .i can assure you it’s not the kid next door that’s problem.
How anyone who had spent SO MUCH time in the Hell that is modern schools could think that it would be a good career only shows the old axe of those who can, do. Those who can't, teach.
