Some of these are my fave songs of the year! 😂 Love Jane Child, A’me Lorain, Johnny Gill, Cover Girls, Linda Ronstadt and Calloway’s songs, but I do agree that the American production was tinny.
I've decided to see how many of your picks for the worst British hits of the 90s would be eligible for such lists here in America. On this list, nine of the ten songs qualify (if you're wondering, that cover of Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini is not like the others).
Speaking as a guy who has a normal sex drive who was hitting puberty in the early 90s, I can safely say that Color Me Badd was way too silly and stupid to get me thinking of that stuff. I was more inclined to bust out laughing than try to hit on girls!
As an American who considers a hit to be any song that either charts on the Year-End Hot 100 or hits the weekly top 20, Dur dur d'être bébé, Undercover's version of Baker Street, and Goodnight Girl would be ineligible for hit song status for me. It does give me comfort to know that seven of the ten songs on this list would also be eligible in America.
I also glad what you responded to so called grifters which poisoned the whole platform with blatant lies and discrimination. People like body language experts, lawtubers, lazy radicalized commentators should be cut off their monetization imo.
Respect your opinion, but that's Madonna's good song, algo "the end of the road" not should be in this list (even in DM). PS: In your opinion the Lionel Richie song is bad because of the video????
I love your videos because I don’t know if your serious with a lot of these or not but it is entertaining but Beauty and the Beast with Peabo and Celine is amazing and better than the film Version but to each their own. Keep up the good work
10) This man songs tend to have sexual innuendos. Now he's in jail. He can rot there! 9) Take That should've been beaten the shit out of for releasing this godawful cover of a classic! 8) Ewwwwwww! Generic boyband slush bollocks! 7) Oh hell no! I like this! 6) Are you kidding me? What the fcuk? But this and no.6 do sound similar to be fair. Generic modern soul. 5) Not the best of the Jackson clan. Generic modern soul sound, just plods along. Forgettable. 4) Christ Almighty! Someone had a great idea to rinse money out of old fans of The Smurfs. 3) This absolute cod reggae shite should never be heard again. 2) Another forgettable generic 90s modern soul track. DM1 Shite, repetitive DM2 Utter crap DM3 Awful DM4 I like this one DM5 Another forgettable one DM6 See ya! DM7 Lame! DM8 WHAT! DM9 Who? DM10 WHO DIS? 1) If there's one singer I find boring, it's Gary Fucking Barlow!
10) If you're gonna take shots at the people running the country, fine, but leave the unfortunate ones out of it! 9) Toosi is trying to sound seductive while singing formulaic trite lyrics. 8) Central Cee is just terrible. Trying to sound tough with rapping formulaic trite lyrics. 7) I'm sorry, but I just cannot stand Lewis Capaldi's voice. 6) Anything Morgan Wallen releases is just the same old generic country sound, sing about a generic subject. 5) This one's not too bad tune wise, but Ice Spice adds nothing. BTW, Shake It Off is rather good. 4) Boring sample/generic EDM fart. 3) See number 6. 2) See number 4. DM1 Goodbye Drake DM2 Fuck off Wallen DM3 Oh please! DM4 NEEEEEEEEEEEEXT! 1) Generic country sound, racist undertones, lyrical bullshit. I for one second do not believe that Jason Aldean doesn't agree with the lyrics or it doesn't have a political stance. He can save that shit for the MAGA crowd.
Little known fact about your number one pick: the lead singer Ann Wilson herself has gone on record stating that she's not a fan of the song. In her words, it was a fun and interesting concept "for ten minutes" (!) before she decided that she didn't want to perform that song live again.
I'm sorry, but no, it's not. It's a load of ASS. They didn't even put it on the For All The Dogs album because that just shows how the writers and producers didn't really care about this. 😠
It feels sweet that the no. 1 is such because not only is it a fucked song, but the performer didn't even write it. So, there isn't a word of whether or not he actually believes in what he is singing.
I haven't heard any of those songs. 🤔 Well, maybe the Taylor Swift on perhaps. I am middle aged though. There is one song I fell in love with that was regularly played on BBC Radio 6 music during the summer. Hoping that one will appear in the "Best of 2023" list. 🙂
Michael Bolton is on this list?! 😲 I am shocked I tell you. Shocked! 😉. 😂 I got caught up n the Blur vs Oasis rivalry and bought the CD single of "Roll with it". ☺️ It was never my favourite Oasis hit single so I don't know what I was thinking. However, iirc there was a B side track on the CD called "Acquiesce" which was quite anthemic. 🙂 I preferred that one. Good call on featuring the Smashing Pumpkins double album "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" in the intro. 😎
"Confide In Me" by Kylie was a great tune. Better than anything she did previously with SAW. Her follow up single release "Put yourself In My Place" was superb as well. That one might have been 1995 though. “Babies" by Pulp might have been my pick of best single for 1994. Or was it the previous year? I really like Pulp's His and Hers album
"Playing with Knives" by Bizarre Inc in the honourable mentions list near the end - what a '90's banger! I wasn`t aware of this until it appeared on compilation CD I owned from 1993.
I'll have to listen to that Whole wild World song but on the whole great choices. I was unsure about Heart at number 1 (a little dull but not dislikeable) but after hearing the explanation I now agree fully. How about Michael Bolton "Can I touch you....there?" as a choice for worst? Not sure what year that one is from memory.
Awww! Not usually a fan of down tempo ballads but I liked "Goodnight Girl". Shame about that one they recorded a couple of years later that stuck around at number 1 for far too long. The other ones on this list that I were familiar with were alright. However, I do agree with "Baker Street" by Undercover being on this list. The "Dangerous" album by MJ was the second CD album I ever bought (early 1992). I was 14 years old and I received a CD player ghetto blaster as a gift the previous Christmas. 🙂
I think that my least favourite song of (I think) 1996 was “You're Gorgeous" by One Hit Wonders Baby Bird. The tune itself was fine but I hated the singing and lyrics. I didn't mind "Mysterious Girl". However, it came a little late to the cod reggae party that was going on around 1992-94. I have a lot more respect for Peter Andre having been married to Price. He seems like a decent guy. 3T and Kris Kross. Now there`s a couple of blasts from the past.
