as for Top Gun - the first movie's soundtrack is great overall even outside of Danger Zone, the Main Theme is epic, then you've got Playing With The Boys, Memories, and of course Take My Breath Away
Agree with the number 1! Nice to see a pick many other reviewers ignored. I also agree with the noninclusion of Yuh - it's annoying but I can't bring myself to hate it.
I always find it cool to see such radically different views on songs, like your number 1. (Spoilers below) I also grew up with the original Down Under as well, and I actually really love the remix. It's certainly a bit corny, and seems like it wouldn't work, but I feel like it does. That said, I am absolutely a sucker for that loud, in your face kind of DnB, so I totally admit to having a bias towards that distinctive sound. That said, I also completely get your reasoning, especially if this kind of stuff ain't your thing, it can get grating. Regardless, I really enjoyed the vid, and was delighted to see you include both the US and UK charts in this! ^ ^
I should've commented on this earlier, as this is a very good video that I'm happy to have come across in research for my video. It's a very solid list, maybe a few picks I contest a bit, but that's bound to happen sometimes, nothing wrong with that. Also...WTH is that #1 pick? Your video is genuinely the first I'd heard of it, and it sounds horribly off-putting.
I also wasn’t a fan of unholy but to me it’s not Sam Smith that ruins it - it’s Kim Petras. Sam sets up a really interesting “I know what you did last summer” type narrative taunting a man for his inability to hold true to the martial vows that he made. In my head that verse isn’t even from the perspective of the side piece - it’s from the perspective of his friend or family member whose horrified by his actions and about to set his life ablaze. Kim’s Verse takes that narrative and says “Who cares about that! Buy me a nice purse and tell me I’m pretty.” Which throws the rest of the song out the window making it a morally reprehensible 7 rings. A verse about her being a femme fatale black widow purposefully hitting on married men to expose them for being cheating scum as some sort of vengeance would have been so awesome and fit much more tonally.
Completely agree with your number one. I love the original too and the remix just butchers it. The original songs are what we will go back to, not these remixes
