Damn, she nailed that song 🎵(which should have been a much bigger hit). Her live vocal was maybe even better than the studio recording; love that Rick Derringer was with her here. What a great guest- funny, engaging, talented and smart. Still love her in 2024.
It's a difficult song to sing. No matter what your politics, it's the national song of the US and needs to be sung with respect and heard with the same. She sure showed respect, albeit in her own, inimitable way.
My first concert was this your as a 13 year old. Right up against the stage. She sweat in me. Incredible show! Still one my fave Cyndi songs til today. Looking forward to her tour soon!
For the life of me I just could not find the beat she was in, but that’s the difference between me and a great talent like Cyndi. Her voice was beautiful, though.
Nope, sorry, I love her, but she missed the point. You as a crowd are supposed to be able to sing along. It’s a song of unity, E pluribus unum, from many, one.
I've watched all of the interviews and I can't help but feel the deepest admiration for Cyndi. She is adorably unusual and incredibly proud of it and you can only help but feel happy when she starts talking.
It looks like she was using relatively new technology back then with the battery powered hand-held receiver and wired earbuds so she could hear herself over the crowd and echo of the stadium.
I've heard five New Yorkers sing the song and with the exception of Idina Menzel they've all either like they had somewhere to be (I'm looking at Neil Diamond and Billy Joel here) or like they were teaching a class (her and Alicia Keys). :)
Not a great man, but a great and refined talent for not telling only partisan jokes do you really didn’t know his politics and no one should these hosts’ politics.
