Yes thank you, it's been the highlight of my life (having sibs and windsurfing with them!) It was the weekend of the late Queen Elizabeth's 70 years of service.
What a Fabulous amazing 86 miles of windsurfing adventure, and a cracking good video too. Its incredible how much effort Henry puts into making and editing these fabulous videos... Well Done Henry Cartwright
Absolutely brilliant! Well done! I love long outing Kite-foiling in the Solent, but never as long as this. My longest is Stokes Bay (Gosport) to Hurst Castle, approx half your voyage. How are your legs today?!
I enjoy your videos as an ex-windsurfer. You really get out there on your adventures. Most of my windsurfing was on lakes so I never had to really deal with tides and only rarely currents. I can see how this ads a whole new dimension and therefore knowledge. The boats I knew that had those wishbone rigs were Nonsuch made in Ontario Canada but maybe other boat makers use them as well.
Brilliant. Bragging rights for life well done. Have often looked at Dover cliffs from France and thought about it. You got me thinking, thank you. . May I ask, did you aim for Le Touquet general area rather than the shorter route to Wissant area ? If so, why ? And did you think about going the other direction ie back again ? It seems the winds favor GB to Fr route ?
Thanks a lot Jason! I had to be in work the next day so couldn't windsurf back sadly. I knew that I could land in the general bay between Le Touquet at Boulongne and everywhere was a beach but had memorised the lat longs for the 3 best options and the wind angle was best for Le T which was a relief as I wanted to avoid the sandbanks given their infamous sea state. Typically the route back is closer to the wind in your classic south westerly from Wissant.
Great series. Can I ask what type of sail and what size were you using for this crossing? Also, which version of the Starboard Phantom were you sailing (how many litres) and did you choose it specifically for this challenge or was it just a board you had? I've got an Exocet Kona One which is 220 litres that I'm hoping to have some adventures with and a 7m Severne Mach 2 sail that I am hoping will be a good match for the board up to 25 knot wind.
It's the 377L with batwings. Yes I bought it for this and many other trips but I had a phantom before. In my windsurfer vs Polar bear video it has all the stats on the board. I was on a 6m because I only had one sail and if you saw episode 1 set off in gusting 30 knots and was also going downwind for most of the trip. Cheers.
Hi Matt, I went back with a friend to get it a week or two later! It was blowing 25 knots and we had an amazing day windsurfing (inshore!) at Wissant beach. Cheers
Henry we are waiting patiently for your next adventure, you are amazing at your craft bro. Hello from other side of the pond US California near San Francisco. 👋👍💨⛵️
Hi Bob, thanks a lot, yes getting fitter for some summer missions. Managed to pull out a 100 mile session out of the bag in 5 hours 24 mins last weekend. Training will be put to good use when I take to bigger seas! Cheers
@@henrycartwright3673 wow that is amazing I walk a hundred in 8 days currently, FITBIT @joaquinwalker to see my stats. 100 miles on water is off the charts man , great athleticism Henry!
I had reverse problem - can you windsurf on an ISUP - so my solution was this - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GqDd5HW-MLY.html - ohhh....that lagoon looks a bit cold!!
I have a late ’80s Obrien sailboard. I am going to try paddling it this year. It is longer and wider than any of the boards you try here and I suspect it will work OK. I wonder in fact if the center board will make it easier to hold a straight line.
Northerly in theory is a good direction to go round, such a shame it was too light. Northerlies just not reliable enough for the several hours it takes to get round
@@henrycartwright3673 yip I kited it once in a northerly with the RTI race which was somewhat hairy, and I think James Meaning kited round first in a northerly too actually.
I once windsurfed downwind and behind one of those hovercraft in Lee on Solent. Felt like it went from 20kts to 60 and I got absolutely destroyed. Don’t sail behind a hovercraft kids!
