Congratulations on your RANS S-19. Yours looks just like mine did before painting 😊. My tail number is N519SM - it’s always a good idea to include your wife’s initials in the tail number 😊
The Europa which I built has almost 1500 hours and I converted it from monowheel retractable to fixed tri-gear after about 950 hours. I envy your 914 turbo engine, but I also have the Airmaster VP propeller on my 912ULS. To the best of my knowledge, all Rotax 9 series engines are limited to 5 minutes maximum between 5500 and 5800 rpm. I did the UK mandatory 5 hours testing (shake down and recordings) in a friend's newly built monowheel with 914 turbo and at WOT straight and level, it reached 165 knots. I notice with some concern that your cockpit canopy latching handle seems not to have a guard. At least a couple of canopies have departed in flight, possibly due to someone's sleeve hooking the latching handle upwards.
Didn’t know that about canopy latch but makes sense. I actually sold the plane recently. Love having more space in the Rans S-19 but miss the 914 and airmaster combo.
It’s record on the GoPro’s internal GPS and there is a setting in the app to have it display in the recording once you download it. Thanks for watching
So if I recall correctly maybe set up little bit loose with the riding gonna tight so in this way you can increase interval every 15000km instead than 10.000km.....
When I do my valve adjustment, I raise the tank and put a small (2x4) block of wood under the rear of the tank. It still doesn't give a perfect access to the ignition cable retainer screw, but it does open it up enough, for that I use a ball-end T20 bit on my long ratcheting bit-driver and put a little but of sealing putty (dum-dum) on the bit so I don't lose the screw.
@jamesfairmind2247 1 day ago (edited) I would very strongly advise anyone attempting this to use a Plastic Drinking Straw instead of a allen key, screwdriver or any metal or solid object when establishing TDC. If you hold the drinking straw against the plug thread closest to you, once you have established TDC without any danger of damaging the piston, head or valves (a very real danger using a metal object particularly on this Guzzi due to head angle) then you can mark the straw with a Sharpie which saves time on the other side and in future. TDC indicators which screw into the plug hole is the professional alternative. Do not turn a simple service job into an extremely expensive repair job.
My 2019 Ascent has been to the dealer Probably 50 times for numerous issues.I was a Subaru fan but not any more. I know this is a first model year and they addressed many issue but what a total piece of garbage this car is. Also I have a 2019 Forrester that has horrendous fit and finish. The dashboard is making rattling sounds, which the dealer advised happens “on all Forresters at 30k”. I’m done with Subarus they are rattle boxes.
Congrats!!! What engine do you have? I can hear on 7:19 that at full take off power the engine reaches top RPM and then has an audible drop in RPMs. Did you notice that on your instruments? The same thing happens on the tough&go.
Thanks! Good catch. I have the 914 with air master constant speed prop. I’m using the Climb setting on auto pitch for T&Gs and I think it’s adjusting the prop to maintain the 5500 RPMs required for Climb power and it oscillates rpm somewhat as it adjusts pitch under load at climb out. TO pitch setting gets me 5800 rpm and doesn’t oscillate seemingly but I can only is that for 5 minutes. This is only a guess. Before owning this plane I’ve had zero Rotax time or with automatic prop control. So please let me know if this is something I should be concerned about
@@stevegsus BTW I always use full take off power for take off, touch and go and sometime when I need to have a rapid climb (e.g. between clouds) up to 5 min. I didn't see any limitations in the 914 manual that 115% of power has to be limited for 5min per flight.
Nothing to be concerned about@@stevegsus. I have the same setup as you in my Europa but i use the TO settings on take offs and landing but changes to Climb as soon as I'm airborn. This to increase the "braking force" from the propeller to help with the landing distance and slow down faster for the gear speed of 82 kts since I have the Monowheel. Looking forwoard to see more Europa clips from you :)
@@oespedthanks for the confirmation and good advice on prop settings. I don’t have a problem slowing down with the tri-gear. But I also don’t have the wheel pants on. Will try and get more videos up soon.

Saw another vid covering the same subject, re the HT lead and it's fixing they removed the bolt at the back of the fuel tank and chocked it up with a small mallet this created enough space to remove the lead and valve cover avoiding any contact with the paintwork on the tank. To make life a little easier give it a go next time you do the tappits 👍. Must say, loving the colour scheme of your bike not seen that here in the UK, are engine protection bars an OEM option?. Thanks for the vid 👍
I definitely lift the back of tank now, a lot easier. The crash bars are a factory option that I installed myself. Have a video on that too. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the reply Steve; that’s good to hear that it’s running cooler; yours is the E4, which had the big catalytic converter under the bike causing heat; where the E5 has the catalytic on the ends of the header pipes; it still sounds like from my reading whether it’s an E4 or E5 they were set up to run lean; so I don’t know if you can richen them up anyway, but adjusting the ECU mapping somehow but thanks I’ll keep tabs on your site to see any gains in the future. Take Care John
Hello Steve; thanks for the video; I have a 2021 version V85 which is the E5 and I am considering exhaust change to have the bike run richer and cooler; it sounds like you’d need either a v-booster plug or the Umap; to make the bike run richer due to the E5 leaner settings; have you done anything other than pipe change yet? And do you notice the bike to run cooler? Thanks, John.
Hi John - 6k miles on pipe now with no mapping or plug changes. Only issue is RPM surge on very cold warm up. Lasts for a minute or less. Bike running noticeably cooler. Definitely notice on legs and feet in summer time.
Beautiful job my automotive teacher that’s been working on Corvair’s for about 60 years says you can make something to catch the oil or something he was explaining to me
It sounds great but what are the concerns about causing the bike to run lean since you removed the cat? I've been thinking about buying a v85 and since I can't leave things alone when I buy them all of my bikes have been modified with exhaust and tuners I currently have three motorcycles now they all have been tuned with aftermarket devices because they all ran dangerously lean after removing the cats. Any updates on the subject?
Thanks for posting this, very useful as I'm seriously evaluating the purchase of a V85. May I ask you, are those the OEM Guzzi crash bars or some other brand (which one)? I'm asking, because depending on how bars are shaped some allow enough clearance to remove the head covers leaving the bars on, some others not, forcing to some extra job to remove the bars prior to starting the valve service. Thanks again and cheers from Italy!
I have been considering a V7 850 and from what I can gather the new 850 motor doesn't run very well when an aftermarket End can is fitted and the Baffles are removed but are ok with baffles installed. How does the motor fair with only the Cat removed? does it not run Lean or Rich? (Lumpy)
Charge rate will be dependant on the generator max continuous output. Generally 80% of label which is a short term before you are overheating the electric side. Generator ratings are odd on a few ways. You can get bigger generators.
