It took Richard Wagner almost 4 hours to make his point with 'Lohengrin', the opera. On average a songwriter only needs a little more than 3 minutes to get his point across. That's why I like songs.

The healthy Syd Barrett was very creative. He was a talented, gifted young man. Unfortunately, he started taking drugs very early on. He had the wrong friends. The first record with Pink Floyd The Piper.... is a good record. Things went uphill with Pink Floyd. Things went downhill with Syd!!! He took LSD several times a week. That's too much, no brain can handle it!!!! He became lethargic..... He was mentally absent... He didn't live in the here and now... He was no longer productive... He could no longer play the right scales... He wanted to climb walls... He wanted to start a cult... He wanted to become a doctor and get married... He wanted to hit his sister Rosemary on the head with his guitar 🎸... Drug addiction is a mental illness... He broke off therapy... He lived in an inner and outer prison...... 🎞️🎥 His whole life should be made into a film. He wrote 52 songs.. I don't know if he ever found redemption or peace for his soul ??? A real tragedy for Syd and his family.

You might like the entire album Flaming belongs to (Piper at the gates of dawn). Beware though, as Pink Floyd was an entirely different band when Syd Barrett was a member.

@@fernandojorgeivanauskas4903 Thanks for your friendly comment. Only recently I started a re-assessment of Syd Barrett’s solo albums. Dark Globe and Here I Go came out as serious candidates for further exploration.
@@fernandojorgeivanauskas4903 My opinion on this is based on information I gained from various interviews with other band members and people who have been otherwise musically involved with Syd Barrett. I think what distinguishes Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd songs from his later solo work is the 'guiding hand'. When Barrett was a member of Pink Floyd he was surrounded by people who were able to translate his musical ideas into a clear musical form. Especially PF keyboardist Richard Wright seems to have played a significant role in this, as he had sufficient theoretical knowledge to define time changes, key changes and that sort of thing, enabling all band members to create out of Barrett's intuitive and therefore often diffuse ideas a collected musical effort which sounded as a coherent whole. In this the supervision of record producer Norman Smith counts also, I think. These guiding factors were missing for the greater part on "the madcap laughs" and "Barrett", Syd's solo-albums. Humble Pie-drummer Jerry Shirley was hired for both albums and his story about recording with Syd Barrett can be heard on a RU-vid-video. All in all I believe that Syd's solo albums were never properly finished. As a consequence the songs on the album, apart from a few such as 'dominoes', were never brought to their full potential. So now you know that you have to take caution when asking me a question. I always tend to be rather elobarate in my answers. Cheers, M.

As someone who isn’t a musician, I really value your opinion, especially since you've worked on these songs. In fact, your versions of the solo pieces sound more polished than the originals-in a good way. As I mentioned earlier, you treated the work with a lot of respect and care.
Maybe not so crazy. Syd Barrett liked the Beatles very much, so he might have picked up a thing or two from their music and willingly or not incorporate it in his own musical findings.
