A fascinating history, difficult to preserve, I understand, after the Lisbon earthquake of 1755. We are pretty certain, in modern South Africa that the storm which gave Dias difficulty around southern Africa occurred at present day Cape Town, which suffers regular storms of rain & heavy winds thanks to being near to the Southern Ocean. Hence, Dias gave the Cape Peninsula that initial name of Cape of Storms: a short-lived name, for the Cape of Good Hope is its very longstanding name.
Magellan didnt want to circle the globe. He said he wanted to go west to the spice islands and come back same way. It was DelCano that found out it was better to circle than go back using the immense Pacific Ocean which Magelland said was not as big. Magellan was a liar.

This account was from one of Da Gama’s shipmates

@@UnDeadArmy935 No serious historian believes anything on that letter. The letter is basically a random british guy with no provable relation to Cabotto saying: Yo, Columbus, do you know that place you found? we brits found it first. I have proof I just don't really, want to show it to you nor give any kind of specific information that's not actually widely know by know thanks to your travels other than there were trees and grass and fishes. We forgot about bringing any kind of proof, animal, plant or anything really even if that would be extremely easy to bring. we were in a bit of a hurry you know? Just trust me bro! we did it first!! Anyway, take care Cristopher!
Amazing, beautiful video .Many thanks. Greetings from beautiful city Punta Arenas where I explore and really like it .I m European love sailing ⛵️ around the world 🌎
In a single voyage Dias and his crew cartographed 1 000 nautical miles of the African coast. A feat of unparalleled scientific relevance in the XV century. He should indeed be recognised as the most consequent sea captain of his generation.
Portugal made Europe rich First with Asia, but most of all with Brazil, where the few grams of gold in Europe were substituted by tons and tons of too much gold.
That music it's a little bit annoyed for the video and I really like it, but it doesn't let me hear your voice. I wanted to play this video to my students but they are going to be distracted by it.
Interesting, there's a theory that the owner of John Cabot's ship (Matthew), Richard Ab Merike is the reason why the continent is called America. I personally think that's more likely than Vespucci - as it's not called Vespucci or anything similar.
