Hi there! Thank you for this upload! So I bought an "Elk" myself, also games on tape, but I have no manual, no clue what Im supposed to type in to load any game. Do you share this secret with me/the comunity? It is surely any command like "cload" or something, but I, as you may imagine, really burn to know what to type in exactly... ;O)
I still have an original A500 and A1200 but I very rarely use them because their just so expensive to buy these days and have setup a Pi 400 with Pimega installed on it instead
@@godfreynet. No. The point of this video was to see how it plays as shipped, with the controller. It's borderline unplayable and even the joystick behaviour is not the same as the original. Even it you did plug in a USB keyboard, it wouldn't fix the joystick issue. It's all in the video.
@@005AGIMA I understand the point... but after 8 campaigns there is no way in my life I could forget F-16 Combat Pilot keyboard commands... that was my remark... ;)
Got myself an external gotek and replaced the guts of an external drive like yourself. I have disk images on the usb , when loading up workbench all I get is an icon with DF1?? and I can't do anything with it.
@@aussie_retro_dude9253 what Disk image did you load? Of it's a game for example, they are non Amiga dos images. Try loading workbench extras in df1, or Delux paint, or an empty Disk. If they didn't work, check the jumper on the gotek is set correctly (try the other setting)
Hello, I have an Amiga 500 rev. 5 with kickstart 1.3. I bought an external gotek with flashfloppy firmware, a data ad power cable bought at amigastore. I would like to copy the games I have on the usb stick plugged into the external gotek on floppy disks using the internal floppy drive and x-copy. My problem is that when the external gotek is connected floppy disks don't boot. If I disconnect the gotek, the floppy drive is able again to load the disks. Gotek is set to S0, I tried to change it to S1, but the result is the same. I tried to plug the gotek in the place of the floppy drive and I can select correctly the games and play What I do wrong? Do you have any guide or instructions to make it work?
Hmmmm not sure what the problem is. I think mine is set to sd1 on the jumper but I can't remember. The only thing I can think is, make sure you don't have the same Disk in both df0 and df1 as the Amiga hates this. But if you've not copied disks yet, that's not the issue. Still something to check though. Also note, you can't backup commercial original games using this method. Only cracked copies will work. That's not why it's not booting but thought I'd mention it.
I got one of those cleaning kits of retrobears good lady wife, yet to try it in all honesty. I agree, I'm not really bothered if discs or cassettes load.
I've just watched Rob Smith's crazy disk cleaner contraption video, then I see this one straight after! Since you are both at Kickstart 2, I hope you took the disks with you to try his cleaner, though it might eat them :-)
I've been at Kickstart 2 today, and it's an amazing contraption. Especially the Windows 98 startup sound! I'm going to take some dirty floppies down tomorrow 😂
maybe remove the labels and recopy then on a new disk. I couldn't be bothered with all that hardware and repairs. I just use an Emulator now but you are doing great keeping the Amiga alive. love your videos.
Shame you couldn't get them working. You might be right about the protective cloth being contaminated by mould but with your next video in mind maybe you should grab a greaseweasle and write the .ipf (i.e. the original game including copy protection) to a new disk and do the transplant?! 🙂
I’d never seen Insanity Fight until now, and will be digging that out soon for a play. Looks good. 👍 Don’t you just hate it when the floppy makes that “cutting through a log wrapped in chains with a hacksaw” sound? I get nervous when that happens often imagining the worst. 😅 Oh and as for Wizball, annoying AF now, but strangely back in the day I had it completely mastered on the Spectrum. Can’t do squat on it now before (like yourself) giving it the one finger salute. 🤣
Oooh, that loading sound from the drive is hugely nostalgic. As I'm almost certain I've mentioned before I had the cartoon pack, lemmings, Bart Simpson, captain planet and something I can't recall. Shame about mercenary, I totally agree about wizball 😂.
I wonder if the car looks like that from behind in order to work with/around the colour clash thing? There is definitely something going on there graphics wise to ensure the colours are all in the right place. It is a very un-Spectrum looking car....if that makes sense. Makes me wonder if the game wasn't a result of working out how to draw that car in that way.
Gutted mercenary was also my favourite. Not initially, but having played all the other games to death, mercenary was reluctantly put into the drive, and ended up being absolutely fantastic. Terrorpods, still have no clue how to play it. 😂
I was exactly the same with mercenary mate. Didn't like it at first and ended up loving it. Terrapods I recall I did figure it out a bit back in the day but it's all gone again now.
Me and my older brother got that compilation of TEN STAR PACK, when we got our first Amiga 500 (STARTER KIT) for christmas 🎁🎄🎅 back in the late 1980's. I got these Amiga games: - THUNDERCATS - BUGGY BOY - THE ART OF CHESS - INSANITY FIGHT - TERRORPODS And my brother got these games: - AMEGAS - BARBARIAN: THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR - IKARI WARRIORS - MERCENARY / THE SECOND CITY - WIZBALL What a great retrospective childhood christmas 🎁🎄🎅 😺👍🕹️. I still have THUNDERCATS, TERRORPODS and WIZBALL for my Amiga 500 😺👍🕹️. A big retrospective like 👍🕹️ from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮.
