@@sionhughes5543 I had two of my machines break down the same day, related to humidity and rust. The blade went down with ease but back out it's completely stuck. It took me all morning to fix my miter saw, now Ill see if I can get the table saw unstuck. Fingers crossed
Thanks, great walk through for restoration of a plane. I'll be restoring a Stanley No 5 very soon so your video will be invaluable for that little project, you've more than earned a subscribe.
Evan though the fence should be slightly open it is still critical that it is repeatable for accurate measurements.Fence is always set at the point where the work piece enters the blade.

While blade alignment ls critical in relation to the miter slot ,fence alignment is not.The fence should be open .005to.010 at the far end working of the fence ,working on the right side of the blade.ViceVersa while working on the left side of the blade. This prevents burning as the work piece exits the blade
Clearly you know a lot more about table saw set up than me . All I know is that after my set up the saw ran much better and was safer . Thanks for all the advice . Cheers sion
Where do you get the specialized washers? Are they called something specific to refer to when searching for them or are they just regular washers? Thank you.
Really like this miter gauge trick. I've been milling down some maple and had issues squaring up my board which lead me to check if the blade and fence were true. The DWE7485 fence somehow fell well out of square from general use. Also notice a bow in the stock fence.. I'm certainly going to use your miter gauge technique to set the fence parallel to the miter slot however I'm seriously considering an auxiliary fence that has some adjustment.
There are lots of options when you deal with fences . An adjustable one has to be best. Thanks for the lovely comment , I really appreciate you taking the time.
This stuff has completely destroyed the lawn. The entire patch where used is now black. There was a lot of moss, so I know a lot of the black is the dead moss. But one week later, moss raked out and grass still black. I used this to just improve the grass before I left the tenancy. Now I’m likely to be billed for an entire new lawn 🙁
I too have had big black strips down the lawn but I did put on extra which was a very bad idea . Re seed the bald ares and it will end up looking sweet .
Other videos that I’ve watched use a slab of Granite (like a large Granite Tile) or a large sheet of glass, then they put the sandpaper on that so they get an even sanding of the plate.
That system will certainly work. However, I used a diamond plate because it was a small plain got a wonderful result and haven’t seen anybody else do it.
How about treating the outside first to stop penetrating damp, you did not state if external issues were evident and if issues were rectified. You’re tanking system/instructions are not the best, possibly rubbish, you do not tank on top of a crack or fill to the surface internal render/plaster crack, bollocks. External render/pointing repair required 1st including seals to door/window frames to elimanate water penetration/ingress, an external water seal would also be advised if possible. The internal plaster would be advised to be rmoved if issues persist and a tanking slurry salt retarding render/skim coat applied to the affected areas.
@@sionhughes5543 my comment was meant for your film on how to adjust the DeWalt saw but thanks for this one too, roll on your relocation to Devon, regards John 🙂
Well if you’re not prepared to tell us if you think it is or isn’t worth the money why put it in the title. I clicked on here to hear your opinion. You’re the person with the expertise and we’re looking for your opinion so, is it or isn’t it worth the money?
Absolutely brilliant. You've inspired me to have a crack at one myself. However, if you think getting good quality supplies is difficult in the UK, spare a thought for those of us in the Antipodes. It's nigh on impossible unless you get it shipped from overseas.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and pleased to hear you feel inspired to go in restore one of your own hand planes. Are you in Australia or New Zealand?
Nice video Sion. I’m not in the market for a new mower just yet, but I have been quite curious about the capabilities of an electric one. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the lovely comment. That video was filmed in Poland where my partner was getting this Lawnmower for her mother who doesn’t have the strength to start a petrol lawn. I was quite shocked by its capabilities and can easily see myself getting one in the next 10 years.
The simple answer is yes you could use a hand plane and just keep shaping the profile until it was round or 40 grit sandpaper as you suggested although as I’m sure you will imagine the uniformity of the bullnose will be directly proportional to the consistency of your sanding
If there is no offset on the blade tip, then this will work. I personally have never seen a blade of that nature. For those that have carbide (or othe), raise the blade all the way up and use a dial gage and purchase a freud 10" calbration and sand disk combination. (Item number CD010)
I just got the K5 but think slightly swindled by the description "K5 Power Control" as they now do one with a cheaper lance which just shows the pressure and does not control the output pressure, you need to use a tool with variable flow rate to adjust the pressure. It even looks like it has four buttons. To get the one now with the LCD control on the lance you need the "Premium" version which now includes the hose on a reel.
Nicely described. I find that this is necessary every year or two. After cleaning it is also a good idea to 'feed the wood' with teak oil. This enhances the look. If you do it every year, and don't mind the roughness too much, it is not necessary to sand it. Pressure washing alone is enough unless you want a 'like new' look. After all, it is GARDEN furniture, not living room furniture!
Wise words and good advice. I did this for a neighbour who is quite specific about not wanting to finish, only natural. It’s a wonderful transformation just after jet hosing the key is all sand.
