I got my IT degree in 2014 I live in a small town in middle TN. So finding a job was impossible. Only banks or manufacturers needed IT help and they all wanted years experience. Or I could if moved to Nashville and struggled with rent which in Nashville now has gotten to the point its LA of the south. Flash forward almost a decade and I've NEVER used my degree in IT. I was offered one job at Amazon for IT. In the interview we got disconnected due to bad connection on their end through a online meeting and was passed over. In stead I went back to school to become a plumber and opened my own business which I have now hired 3 more staff to help the work load. Moral of the story. Plumbers and electricians are always needed.

In Europe, a lot of this is handled with "gardening leave".That is if you have an important job e.g. in finance, nd you want to work for a competitor, your old company will pay you to do nothing for 12-18 months so tht any clients that were working with you migrate to someone else in the copany and they don't follow you to you new employer. And general rules about confidentialty are also widely understood.

I actually don't agree with this ruling. I believe 2 parties should be able to go into any contact they want. If you don't want a non-compete... Then don't sign one. Or have them give you extra compensation for including a non-compete. No one forces you to sign a job offer.

I’m a cater waiter. We server really upscale clients and staff really high end events. Sometimes it feels really redundant and demeaning to clear people’s meals and getting paid to not exist… but the money is really good, I love my coworkers, the work is dynamic and ever changing… and I get paid a lot and am finding the life of my dreams and saving up for the life I really want to give too. And my first car 🥹🙏🏾🙏🏾 and our events serve some of the happiest days of peoples lives, and that’s really nice. It’s not always about me, and I AM in control of what happens to my money and me. 🖤

As someone who has been both an employee under a non-compete clause, and a corporate board member who has held employees to the non-compete clause, I think there is a lot of nuance which is covered in the video somewhat, but completely missed by most of the commenters here. In general, I would agree that non-competes were generally over-implemented and often abused. In my experience, however, they were often very difficult to enforce legally. The threat was worse than the reality. All in all, given the dramatic change in the workforce recently, where there is a general shortage of workers compared to the needs in pretty much every field, I think a legislated reset of the non-compete rules is a good thing. Some businesses will be hurt, and some will be helped. Most workers will benefit, but this will drive up the costs of business, which will lead to more inflation.

1:25 NDAs make more sense. Keeping non-public information hidden from competitors. There has to be some middle-ground between NDAs and non-competes for going to competitors though as an executive. I can see that being abused for treason or Trojan horse tactics.

"but this will hurt companies" so companies are made of of people and noncom peats are currently hurting people... I think we have this misconception that employees exist to serve the company, companies exist to benefit the employees for good pay and conditions.

I don’t have a non-compete, but I do get an annual bonus. The bonus is paid 90 days after the end of the fiscal year. If I resign I’m not eligible for the bonus that year, so I have golden handcuffs that reward me for not leaving my current employer.

2.3 trillion dollars lost as a result of bad accounting? Yes, of course... especially when business people like Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld were working together at the Whitehouse. I personally lost 175 billion dollars recently due to bad accounting, but the IRS doesn't believe me 😂😂😂

I work in Pest Control and it's honestly really shitty that we were made to sign a non-compete to be hired. We're payed alright and they do pay for our training, licensing, fleet vehicles and gas for them, equipment, etc. None of the overhead comes to us, but imo that should be the expectation. I feel trapped in my job because if I quit and cannot find another job with similar pay my family will lose our home. It's horrible to have the threat of litigation hanging over your head if you seek a better employer.

I work in healthcare and I can work for multiple companies at the same time. The only time you will find a clause like that is when working for slimy home health and traveling companies. It is definitely a way to trap people . I hope it works out for you.

The best thing a safety guy ever said to us was, "Don't kill yourself for a company that will put out a 'Help Wanted' sign before an obituary." For the blue collar guys out there, he's a Marine, Master Electrician, and Lineman (30 years doing both kinds of electrical work) waaay before he became a safety guy.

It depends on how ambitious the employee(s) are. I remember talking with an Auto Electrician who said his apprentice had completed his training at his shop. The next day the former apprentice set up shop 2 does down, has rung all his clients and told them that he was now the senior auto electrician and to celebrate he was running a promotion that was expected to be so popular that extra workspace was required. So he rented a shop 2 does away. This lead clients to believe that they were doing business with the same company. I asked if he knew the auto sparky wasn’t going to stick around after he had completed his training. He said he was told that he was moving to another city to be closer to his family because his parents were elderly and he wanted to look 👀 out for them. But in reality it was a sob story to get a good written reference.

The issue is they often make you sign these things and you get no additional compensation for it so if the environment becomes toxic I think non-compete should only be allowed if the company is on the hook for salary until the non-compete ends

I have far more respect for for a person like a welder, builder, plumber or an electrican than a middle management in an organization, which given my experience, is only the the way or an obstacle to true positive changes, cutting costs, etc. Cut out the middle man!

In trading, possessing technical analysis skills is not sufficient on its own; discipline and emotional maturity play crucial roles in achieving success. Embracing the mindset of "time in the market vs. timing the market" proves valuable, especially during market fluctuations. I attribute my growing daily earnings to Walter James Henry's valuable insights and daily trade signals, coupled with my commitment to continuous learning, managed to grow a nest egg of around 127k to a decent 532k. Kudos to the journey ahead!

if you wanna stop people from leaving after you've trained them... how about you pay them and give them good working conditions so they'll want to stay? I've never understood this. You're willing to put money into training and molding a new employee but not money into keeping them. Even if they've signed a non-compete, tons of skills can be used across multiple industries, and while you might not be allowed to work for a competitor, you can still use those skills at other companies. A software developer is a software developer. Whether they work for a bank or an insurance company, it's the same skills. So as it is right now, people can still leave when they've gotten the training, so you already have to give them incentive to stay.
