I have some dwarf crape myrtles that I want to keep 4' in length in large pots. Do I need to root prune if the tree roots don't wind up touching the pot?

A few additional tidbits about this plant is that it's what the reeds in woodwind instruments are made from, as well as for cane furniture. The canes are far more flexible than bamboo because of their high silica content. Also, the plant is sterile and has reportedly never been known to grow from seed!

Sadly I can never pick up the scent of a witch hazel, but find the scent of a Chimonanthus Praecox wonderful. Strange. Unfortunately, unlike the Hammamellis, the latter doesn't appear to have been cultivated into smaller more compact varieties that I could fit into my garden.

When is the best time of yeat to cut grasses or do they vary.
@TomAttwood
@TomAttwood 8 месяцев назад
As a rule if they’re deciduous best to wait until early spring as the old growth protects the new shoots, there are some that wouldn’t come to much harm doing it sooner but if in doubt wait until late March early April, evergreen grasses need little if any cutting, it’s more a case of removing the old leaves from time to time.

Are the roots invasive? Can I plant in a narrow raised bed?
@TomAttwood
@TomAttwood 8 месяцев назад
I wouldn’t say invasive, definitely more surface rooting than some plants, it needs a reasonable space to grow so just depends on the dimensions of your raised bed

@TomAttwood

Thanks for the feedback 😊olives in the whole can grow happily for many years in a pot bound state if they have adequate feed in the spring and autumn, you can certainly do this to a bay tree 👍

Hello newbie here. Today I planted a fairly large Acacia tree (that was in a 15 gallon pot). I had a feeling the roots looked weird, but planted it anyway. I went on RU-vid and sure enough it appears my tree is root bound. Ugh. Should I dig up my tree and unbound the roots asap? Or wait?
@TomAttwood
@TomAttwood 8 месяцев назад
Sorry for the v late reply, depends on the extent of the roots condition, in most cases the roots will sort themselves out especially with a fast growing tree like an Acacia but if things don’t appear to be growing well it’s not too late to dig it up and tackle the roots
