So I’ve looked into Mathnavi and I personally avoid making references limiting Mathnavi to my understanding of it, however if you look deeper you’d find metaphors referring to Nafs as مار snake or khar or Azhdaha, these are metaphors and example for us to know the threat but nafs can’t be just a donkey or snake, it’s different for each one, for some it’s Pharao and for some it’s a sleeping snake or pharaoh Chapter 4: چونكه كرمنا شد بني آدم ز اخطيار نيم زنبور عسل نيم اش مار
