How one can recognize the demons within (snakes, lower self) and look for a cure. This story is from Mathnavi Manavi Shareef (Rumi).
گفت اگر من گُفتمی رَمْزی از آن زَهرهٔ تو آب گشتی آن زمان
He said even if I had given you a hint, your gallbladder would instantly have turned into water
گَر تو را من گفتمی اوصافِ مار ترس از جانَت بَرآوَرْدی دَمار
If I told you what that snake was like you would have been so frightened that you would have died
مُصْطَفیٰ فَرمود اگر گویم به‌راست شَرحِ آن دُشمن که در جانِ شماست
The Holy Prophet said (Mustafa) if I was to tell you correctly the description of the enemy which is in yourselves
Even the gallbladders of heroes would burst such a person would neither be able to work nor return to work
زَهْره‌هایِ پُردلان هم بَردَرَد نی رَوَد رَهْ، نی غَمِ کاری خورَد
Neither he would have the strength to continue praying nor would he have the strength to continue prayers and fast
نه دِلَش را تاب مانَد در نیاز نه تَنَش را قُوَّتِ روزه وْ نماز
He would become so useless that he’d be like a mouse hypnotized by a cat (unable to move) he would be as terrified as a lamb confronted by a wolf
هَمچو موشی پیشِ گُربه لا شود هَمچو بَرِّه پیشِ گُرگ از جا رَوَد
He would become so useless that he’d be like a mouse hypnotized by a cat (unable to move) he would be as terrified as a lamb confronted by a wolf
اَنْدرو نه حیله مانَد، نه رَوِش پس کُنم ناگفته‌تان من پَروَرِش
Such a person would so be terrified that he would not be able to make any plans or even move and that is why I treat you without speaking
هَمچو بوبَکْرِ رَبابی تَن زَنَم دستْ چون داوود در آهن زَنَم
I am silent like Abu Bakr Rababi I handle the iron like David
خود بِدانی چون بَرآری سَر زِ خواب خَتْم شُد، وَاللهُ اَعْلَمْ بِالصَّواب
You’ll find out when you raise your head from this sleep that you are in, that’s it and Allah knows best what is right
