Dartmouth's Thayer School of Engineering is a collaborative community dedicated to human-centered engineering with both undergraduate and graduate programs through the PhD.
What will you suggest to the people that lose their job due to GenAI? Return to school? Become poor? What if only 1% of humanity becomes interested in the "new jobs created" from GenAI? What do you do with the 99% remaining?
I think she’s absolutely correct. There are a ton of creative jobs that probably shouldn’t exist mostly tv writing on television shows that are formulaic and derivative to begin with.
Human drawings are inspired and mix with a little bit of their own creativity, which make the piece unique. Meanwhile the AI just learn the pattern and generate without the creativity and uniques like human, and it's not much more than just copy. It doesn't "draw"either, it's more like remixing the original pieces. Maybe think again and take your word back?
Folks, If we unite, then we can ensure that openAI and midjourney will either pay royalties to each artist, or the genAI features will simply be turned off. Music labels are already working to protect musicians and their rights to music. Artists, we should unite too
Was there also an interview with Joy Buolamwini - is there a video? Would be much more useful to hear from an actual expert with useful experience in the industry and a leader given Dartmouth is supposedly an Academic institution. Not sure why Dartmouth would be proud of their graduates lacking engineering experience and instead using their degrees as a calling card for crass management and PR roles that are embarrassing, inhumane and a pyramid scheme.
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏻, We need to cure Cancer, HIV, Cystic Fibrosis, Alzheimer's, and the aging process. To achieve this, we need superintelligence; otherwise, we're already doomed and racing against time. Tick tock, tick tock...
People don't understand AI will not replace people or their brains, it will be an extension for the brains of many people, it will end poverty, diseases, suffering, it will empower people with difficulties, it will discover new reasons to live, it will be able to create cures and solutions for the body and mind human. AI is hope It is the only hope I have that we will find something good and end exclusion and hatred.
and how will it do this? so far i've seen some impressive stuff but mainly misinformation and kind of impressive, yet mostly useless image and video making
At this point, we should just bully people for coming out with inapt statements like this, no sugar coding She doesn't deserve respect or anything benefic produced by a society she is so incapable to appreciate. We should stop giving voices to creatures that don't know anything about anything.
There will be no "actual artists" soon. And no reach and poor, no talented and talentless, no men and women, no living and unliving things. Just one great computronium the size of the Universe. No You, just great Me in the middle of the world Kurzweil, 2045, singularity.
You all should obey to us, transhumanists! What good is there in a world where everything comes with blood and tears? Soon Al will create a phenomenal abundance, robots will work, and any talent can be obtained by swallowing a pill. And then the very need to be talented will disappear. This will be true happiness!
Mura Murati is coming into the public eye more and more. She does an excellent job of explaining where generative AI is now. I use GPT-4o all the time. I make my own small discoveries. Billions of people have to do the same thing. No one can know where this is going. Many can see obvious mileposts along the way. Muri answered correctly when she said AI will influence everything. It can be used for everything. Education is a transformative step. This video is part of that effort. Thank you all for your efforts in making it available.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm 100% behind copyright lawyers. They're the only ones who can shut down the monstrosity called "neural networks". Because of NN, we're facing threat of cultural degradation comparable only to Dark Ages.
These people literally want the matrix to happen. Everywhere you look in your daily life a person has designed or created something to help or entertain you. They want to eradicate that and make sure only the most boring jobs remain. (I’m sure they’ll make it so CTOs & senators are still needed somehow✌🏻🤪)
Quick, here’s your playbook: build technologies that cannibalize entire industries worth of output and then use the stolen IP to disrupt the relative social stability that has delivered relative peace to a huge number of people relative to the past. Don’t limit its reach and disseminate it widely while making a cynical cash grab vaguely camouflaged as progress.Inspire already sociopathic CEOs to greater unrestrained heights of vapid narcissism and misanthropy while salivating at the prospect of firing all employees. Ask those who stand to become billionaires from the technology to craft their own governing policies and implement them. Slap cute emojis on the supporting frameworks like care bear stickers on an Artillery piece. Resist all assertions you have no clue what you are doing and that anyone that’s says otherwise is an out of touch Luddite. Monetize monetize monetize. Move fast and break people. Ignore all historical precedent. Eat money when all the food and water runs out in your island bunker and it’s too hot outside to grow more. Think back on how pretty birds were. Flowers too.
If AI can give me legal advice, does that also mean that lawyers shouldn't have been there in the first place? Bookkeepers? Financial advisors? Psychologists? Anything that requires mostly a computer? AI could easily overtake these jobs
Neural Network is not AI. It has no intelligence behind it, and without intelligence it can't give advice, or create, or do anything other than regurgitate stolen works
a sad pathetic woman with zero empathy, dumbing down humanity while feeling like she’s so important. Creativity should continuously be rewarded for years to come.
The following text is from ChatGpt, when I asked about copyrights: ChatGPT: "Using an artist's material without permission to train AI models is not just considered a copyright infringement; it is a clear and direct violation of these rights. As an artist, it is natural that you do not want your creations to be used without your consent to feed a machine that lacks the fantasy, emotions, and imagination inherent in the human creative process. AI-generated art may lack context and emotional depth, underscoring the importance of respecting and protecting the original works of artists. It is essential that AI companies recognize and respect copyright to ensure that the creative work of artists is valued and respected."
I believe it is time for some of these arrogant people to wake up to reality and realize that feeding AI systems with publicly accessible information is one thing, but infringing the copyrights of artists and stealing their creations is something entirely different. That is the reason why many artists and companies that work with musicians have sued some AI companies for using material without authorization. Firms including Sony Music, Universal Music Group and Warner Records say some AI companies have committed copyright infringement on an "almost unimaginable scale". They claim the pair's software steals music to "spit out" similar work and ask for compensation of $150,000 (£118,200) per work.
